When I got this in my 64 I was so happy and played it till my fingers hurt and then played it some more. Thanks for playing KI gold I'd love to see you play more.
Killer Instinct Gold is essentially a remake of the arcade game and not a port. Rare had to take out all the FMVs and just recreate everything in 3D. For the stages, the environment had to be recreated in 3D using textures and polygons and for the intro and outro they had to used 3D render still images with zooming effects. Like what you said the only thing I don't like is that they took out most of the announcer's speech from the first game so no shouting during Triple, Super, Blaster, etc., combo and I believe the reason they took it out was cause they thought it may sound annoying to most gamers so they only left in Ultra, Combo Breaker and Ultimate only. The only other thing that annoy me about the arcade version of Killer Instinct 2 is the same thing that annoy me about Super Street Fighter II Turbo, there's no way to choose the default color of your fighter. Every time you play you always get one of the alternate color instead, it wasn't until the home versions that they finally allow you to pick the default color. In Super Street Fighter II Turbo the only way to pick the default color outfit is to use a code to pick their classic style and while that allow your fighter to wore the default color outfit, you can't perform super combos as they took out the meter. It really is kinda lame that they do that.
KI Gold is a port, not a remake. N64 was not even designed for 2D games. Thus all 2D games run on 3D invisible objects with 2D sprites put on them. You actually can choose the default color of your fighter in KI2. I do not know why you make such a claim that you can't.
Yep, KI Gold is a port/retooling of KI2 and, despite everything that was cut from the Arcade version (The aforementioned FMVs, animation frames, Jago's 'resurrection' move, & Spinal's other 'Ship' stage), it remains one of my favorite & most-played N64 games.
I played a lot KI at the arcade and had it on SNES. I was disappointed when KI didn't get a N64 release. By that time, it was clear that this Ultra 64 was a myth, it was just Nintendo 64. As for KI2, i never got into it. But I am happy to watch you play it Darryl.
I also bought this game when it came out on the n64. Definitely felt like something without the cutscenes from the arcade. I also preferred ki1 also. Arcade 1up has made me a happy man with their cabinet. Great vid btw.
Jago's win quote sounds like, "Shoubutsu mesarei," which is like saying, "This fight is decided." I have no idea if that was intentional or not, but it fits.
I haven’t seen this game in a long time. Probably since before 2005 when I figured out MAME lol. I plan to revisit it myself eventually but right away I’m stunned by a few things I forgot. The blood is very different, at least the drops hitting the ground are. I really wish we had gotten KI1 on N64. This is a really impressive use of the hardware though. @@BushyStallionyou’re right, I have some odd fascination with the blood splatter in games haha! I noticed that myself. Im like a forensic investigator for arcade blood drops! 😂
At that time Rare was still learning how to develop on N64. And they developed KI Gold in very short time to have it ready before Christmas 1996 in USA.
@@KillerArcadeGames KI Gold is different because it works on 3D engine as N64 can't render 2D graphics like SNES did. So all sprites are put on invisible 3D objects. Thus those 3D objects are moving and not sprites like in KI on SNES for example.

As for the new bosses Gargos (Gargoyle demon), many were divided between him and Eyedol (Two-headed ogre) as some prefer the original boss while others thought the new one is much better.

I bought this when it came out, but it was stolen circa 2008 along with MK Trilogy, Bomberman 64, and Blast Corps. I still have a few dozen games but those four are sorely missed.
Killer Instinct 1 *should've* been released on the N64. Not the SNES. They even promoted it on the Killer Instinct arcade cabinet that it was coming to the Ultra 64 aka N64 🤦♂️.
It was suppose to be a launch title for the Ultra 64 and its CD-based add-on. That's why the arcade game was promoting the Ultra 64 but Nintendo kinda screw up the N64 launch. For one it's no longer called the Ultra 64 anymore. Secondly, the CD-based 64DD add-on got delay, then the N64 console itself got delay to late 1996. That's when Rare says screw it let's just port it to Super NES instead using the DKC engine and focus more on the gameplay over graphics and for a while it does work. The game came with the Killer Cut music CD and a black Super NES cartridge that is very unique. The game was very fun but most player felt like they got rob of a better version.
@@VOAN There was no CD add on planned for 64. 64DD is a floppy based add on. And it was Nintendo who decided to have KI on SNES. They financed and commissioned Rareware games. And no there is no such thing as DKC engine. I do not know why you even come up with such claims.
I'm dying for them to add this to Switch Online. We finally got KI for the SNES on there, so I figure it's only a matter of time. I actually preferred Gold to the arcade back in 1996. I thought it played better (like MK2 on SNES).
Crazy that Hak Tua became so popular. I've seen that mentioned in like 4 separate interests that I follow. Where does Killer instinct n64 rank on n64 games? Would you say top 50, top 100 or is it not in the top 100? SuperNES was my system, then went to playstation. Killer instinct to me is a top 30 for SNES
I think it’s definitely top 20 for N64 and maybe even top 10 for me personally. And yeah that Hawk Tuah has already run its course I think but that girl has made a killing from it and hopefully she continues to capitalize on making money from it. Crazy world we live in now lol
I own the original arcade cabinet of KI 2 the image is stored in 10 GB HDD . I absolutley loved Snes version and N64 Killer instinct they wore great considering cartrige limitation .Rare was amazing very underrated

I still remember in the 90s playing KI Gold. My older sister’s then-boyfriend(now her husband) bought the game and brought it to my house. I used Maya and he used Orchid! We were playing against each other for a while and in the end it was tied. Great times growing up 😊😊😊😊
Awesome memories dude thanks for sharing! Memory comments are some of my favourites, I like hearing how we all have similar childhood memories with these retro games.
Hi Darryl. Thank u for this video. KIG was my absolute fav game on N64. Could u tell me how u get the shadow move? Please? I was never able to get that. 😔
Hmm, it’s just a different variant on the controller, for instance with TJ instead of just holding forward and tapping back and medium kick you need to roll the joystick from towards, half circle back and then forward for the shadow linker, it’s different for everyone. Best bet is to check out @GlaciusXL videos as he is the Killer Instinct MASTER.
I'm curious to know whether KI Gold plays identical to KI2 arcade- I never could tell because of how bad the N64 controller was for fighting games. And I never knew about how these fighting games could actually work (like pre-queuing a joystick motion move during the Fight! announcement or rapid-tapping jab let alone knowing how to use invincibility frames to your advantage).
They basically are the same game just that the arcade version used FMV for backgrounds, versus, and win screens. The N64 version used 3D polygons for the backgrounds and render images for the intro and outro screen. Also what's so confusing about the N64 controller? You got six buttons on the face and KI use the same six button layout as Street Fighter II, it's not too confusing to know that B and A buttons are weak attacks, C Left and C Down buttons are mid attacks and C Up and C Right buttons are heavy attacks. All the upper buttons are punches and all the lower buttons are kicks. L and R buttons are shortcut buttons. If you ask me the N64 controller fit fighting games more so than the PlayStation controller in some aspect.
I remember seeing this game in the magazines and been disappointed because I wanted a 3D fighting game , I never played it in arcades though but I did got it and the game is one if not the best fighting game on the system (n64 sucks in the fighting game department 😭) something funny happened to me with this game, I was at a friend house we were playing n64 it was like 7 years ago, I went and put this game but it didn’t booted, I was in shock my KI gold wasn’t booting but every other game did, after fiddling around I found out what happened, I had in my controller my 2 in 1 tremor pak and memory card, the one with the switches to select one or the other, well guess what , I don’t know why but that thing wasn’t letting the N64 boot the game, I had to take it out of the controller 😂 weird
Some games released before Rumble Pak (1997) and Tremor Pak could have issues if they were using Controller Pak or just checking for CP presence. Just like KI Gold (1996).
Sup dude!? You ever clean the pins on your cartridges with 90% rubbing alcohol? I never used to but after I bought all my games back over the past 14 months I do now
KI Gold... yeah, just like SNES KI, if you don't play on a high difficulty won't give you the full ending or no ending at all, TJ Combo and Sabrewulf have a cheesy way to defeat opponents with one particular Shadow Move that if you catch your rival off-guard, you can stun them with that Shadow Move and then proceed with the out of combo Ultimate (Sabrewulf with the bats and Combo with his Machine Gun)... this is veeery stupid if you enable early Ultimates in the options menu because as soon as you get the Shadow Move to stun your opponent, you can proceed to end the match even when their 2nd lifebar is too high for the finisher under normal rules (Ultra Combos still has to be done like usual, but remember that if you get Ultra'd, there's a slim chance that you might have enough Shadow Meter to perform the Ultra Breaker at the first 3 to 5 hits of said combo to give yourself one last chance to turn the tables of the match).
@@VOAN That gave replay value to the game, however a few of them were difficult to pull off (the ones involving a 1 credit run in particular... and that's assuming you know to perform the Ultras and Ultimates of every character... Gargos has only one ending and is the same in both arcade or N64 Gold version of KI2).
Nintendo sure loved to false advertise back in the day. Killer Instinct only on ULTRA 64!!!! aka $250,000 super computer that had nothing to do with our upcoming hardware. Want Nintendo on the go???? Grab our new portable GAMEBOY!!!!! Shows commercial of a yellowed backlit Gameboy, but instead sells a non-backlid Gameboy with 4 shades of green.
There was no false advertising. KI Arcade cabinet's cost was about 10k of USD in 1994. GB commercial was shown this for contrast purposes. They did not advertise any yellow backlit like you claim.
@@Prime-1111X I already explained that a purpose of it was to show proper contrasts on TV screen. And there was no info that GB has any backlit in the commercial.
@kordelas2514 That's why I've said "showed". It's like me advertising a nightclub featuring the hottest TV models to be there for a $100 door fee. Then when you get there, the women in the club is totally different from the ones in the commercial. It's called Deceptive Advertising, my brother.
@@Prime-1111X You are incorrect. The advert did not show any backlit. And the majority of people did not have a clue what backlit is back then. Creating an issue when there is no issue does not make any sense.
If memory serves correct to get the gold characters you had to beat the game on the hardest difficulty with that character... so that's what you did 20+ years ago lol
I like this alright, but the graphics and audio are so compressed compared to KI2 arcade. Not to mention all the missing graphics and animation. Having said that, the music in KI2 arcade is way inferior to the original.
Quality of music in KI Gold is better than in KI2. And it is in stereo. KI Gold is quite a good port if take to account that it was developed in a very short period of time (KI2 was released in the beginning of 1996 and N64 development kits were provided likely in mid 1996. So if Rare was developing anything before, it was based on assumed specs of N64), devs were learning how N64 and dev kits work in practice, that cartridge memory size was limited.
@@BushyStallion But it was just an emulated arcade version with some meta stuff added on top of it (including on line mode). And to own it, it required to have a season one ultra edition of KI2013.

Hmm I wonder if they will add it to switch.
I love the full super bar meter, that was the biggest bummer to me about getting KI2 on Xbox one.
Right? And it took a while to raise the meter which sucked also lol
Best Game!! Good player. nice Video!
Thanks Gleek! 🙏🏽
Hell yes!
Awesome! Also, check out Primal Rage 2 if you can. You might have a lot of fun streaming that and doing the transformations.
Will have to check that out! Thank you 👊🏼
Crazy that Hak Tua became so popular.
KI is a classic. Wish there's a way to play the arcade versions on consoles.
You can play them on Xbox One and Series consoles as they were officially released with KI2103 season one ultra edition.
I own the original arcade cabinet of KI 2 the image is stored in 10 GB HDD . I absolutley loved Snes version and N64 Killer instinct they wore great considering cartrige limitation .Rare was amazing very underrated
Your HDD is not original one.
@@kordelas2514 Yes it i have purchase certificate, from the my parents arcade game business was pre order from new in 1996 the year Killer Instinct II come out . As a collector item i wont have any reproduction storage cost money this days. My favorite fighters from my arcade cabinet colection is Waku waku 7 neo geo fallow by Last blade 2.
@@iulianispas8634 Again. It is not the original. Such HDD would be very expensive in 1996. So no company would put it into arcade machine for a game that uses only 1/20 of its capacity. You can easily check specification of KI2 hardware on internet.
👋🏾🐻Great video, really wish they released the original arcade.
Thanks Monie, I appreciate it. I also wish they released KI on N64 back in the day.
I liked KI... I used to always here it while playing MK2. I just didn't understand the mechanics of the game.
Love it!
Seriously what could possibly be the real difference between EXTRA HARD and MASTER difficulty? I am genuinely curious
Good question 🤔
Cool good afternoon
Some KI2 things are missing in gameplay mechanics of KI Gold. But at its core it is still almost identical to KI2.
Oh yea daryl I'm 38 love killer instincts
Not sure what the person who commented on this is talking about lol you would’ve been 9 or 10 when KI came out I believe. Thanks for the comment 👊🏼
I played and beat the hell out of this on the hardest difficulty level back in the day now I can't do it anymore
A lot of games I beat in the past I suck at now 😂😂 oh the joys of getting older.
Ultra 64 was teased on killer instinct 1 arcade. Xbox is home to all Killer Instincts (except snes).
It also does not have a KI2 SNES port.
1:20 Are you saying Orchid is a BBW? 😁
It’s possible lol
It would have been cool if it was on Super Nintendo. That’s what I always thought
They developed KI2 on SNES, but Nintendo decided to not release it.
Sup dude!? You ever clean the pins on your cartridges with 90% rubbing alcohol? I never used to but after I bought all my games back over the past 14 months I do now
What’s up Jax, nope I never clean them lol I probably should
KI Gold... yeah, just like SNES KI, if you don't play on a high difficulty won't give you the full ending or no ending at all, TJ Combo and Sabrewulf have a cheesy way to defeat opponents with one particular Shadow Move that if you catch your rival off-guard, you can stun them with that Shadow Move and then proceed with the out of combo Ultimate (Sabrewulf with the bats and Combo with his Machine Gun)... this is veeery stupid if you enable early Ultimates in the options menu because as soon as you get the Shadow Move to stun your opponent, you can proceed to end the match even when their 2nd lifebar is too high for the finisher under normal rules (Ultra Combos still has to be done like usual, but remember that if you get Ultra'd, there's a slim chance that you might have enough Shadow Meter to perform the Ultra Breaker at the first 3 to 5 hits of said combo to give yourself one last chance to turn the tables of the match).
In the arcade version of KI2 if you happened to killed certain characters, you also get alternate endings as well.
@@VOAN Also by destroying environment like Glacius' ship for example.
Sweet game..👌👌👌
Yesss KI Gold is finally getting more and more love! :D
@kordelas2514 Watch the original Gameboy commercial, and look up the original Gameboy box, then come back to me.
Try with MAME
The 4K TV is realising what it feels like when your mom gets more male attention than you
😂😂 nice comment!
Epic
OR-CHID 😂priceless
Always pronounced it like that back in the day just to be different lol
Great tattoo 🤙🏻
Thanks B 👊🏼
I like this alright, but the graphics and audio are so compressed compared to KI2 arcade. Not to mention all the missing graphics and animation.
Having said that, the music in KI2 arcade is way inferior to the original.
Yeah I feel the best home version was the arcade version on Xbox One, and that was dirt cheap also.
@@BushyStallion yeah, it was awesome to be able to play the real KI & KI2 again!!!
And to own it, it required to have a season one ultra edition of KI2013.
bro you tattoo is bad ass
Thanks brother 👊🏼
Tusk was really cheap as CPU, I didn't like that. I really enjoyed Kim Wu and Glacius :)
Awesome tattoo
Thank you 🙏🏽
