There's a picture of Tim Stamper's twitter showing a prototype board of KI2 for Snes (v0.2). Sadly we requested him to show it with pure silence in response.
I remember back in 1996 gamefan magazine reported that Killer Instinct 2 was coming to the SNES. When it wound up being released only for the N64, i thought Gamefan reported on a untrue rumor about Killer Instinct coming to the SNES or i thought they just made up the rumor. Then fast forward to the early to mid 2010`s, i seen a interview with a ex developer of Rare talking about how he worked on Killer Instinct 2 for the SNES. He said it has more effects then the SNES version of Killer Instinct 1, But it was cancelled.
Gamefan was probably the best video game magazine of all time. Their articles were always so well detailed, and their news and unveils were month ahead of every other magazine.
I always thought the ladies in Killer Instinct 1 & 2 looked like Paula Abdul & Janet Jackson. Kind of a product of its time kind of thing. Like now, in the 2013 Killer Instinct, Orchid looks more closer to a Kardashian and Maya looks like Beyoncé, which is once again a product of its time.
Why does no one but me remember the free watch that got bundled with certain copies of killer instinct? It was a nice enough watch with a red bevel and Nintendo written on the face.
I definitely remember it came with a poster too of Jago Orchid and Chief Thunder it was a Toys R US exclusive I remember so well because you had to have a ticket plus a pre-order ( even tho it was more like layaway then) my ticket number was 68 out of 70. My grandmother took me that's one of my last memories of spending time with her. I wore that watch till it popped after she passed.
It took me decades to get the chance to play Killer Instinct 2. I never got an N64, so I would have appreciated the chance to play the game on the SNES.
I don't know the rumors about K.I.2 SNES Version, whether he has CANCEL status, or PROTOTYPE, or DEMO status. In 1996, SNES cartridges were available with a capacity of 48 MEGS = 6 MB, and various kinds of supporting CHIPS were also available according to needs. KILLER INSTINCT 2's whereabouts are still a mystery, and according to rumors the PROTOTYPE CARTRIDGE is now at NINTENDO & RARE HEADQUARTERS in NTSC NA & PAL EU Versions
K.I. Gold was so far away from a true K.I.2 arcade port. Well I still have the memories. The voice over sounds coming out the cabinet were amazing. As we're the sounds of the partical effects 😲. This game broke so much ground. Rare indeed.
I remember playing Killer Instinct 2 at the arcades. It was interesting since I didn't know what the hell am I doing in 2004. Then again, I wouldn't mind playing Killer Instinct again.
I hope so, nothing in this day and age remains hidden forever, someone will get hold of that copy or some old insider who used to work for rare will have some insight for us in the near future
I still will never forgive Nintendo for lying and not giving us KI on n64. KI 2 gold was ok on n64. But KI 1 was groundbreaking. It blew away all other arcade games and it shouldn’t have been on SNES. I played it a decent amount on x band though
Omfg talk about leaving money on the table. It was finished for the SNES and they still haven’t put it up for sale on the Switch e-shop???!?!???!?!!!?? Microsoft wtf are you doing?????? 🤦♀️😫
Hey, Top Hat Gaming Man. Can you please do a review of Battle Circuit in a future video? It was Capcom's last beat 'em up game for the arcade. It was only released in 1997 for the arcade in Japan and Europe, and was never released on the original PlayStation or Sega Saturn until the released of the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle for modern consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018. Would you mind doing a video on this beat 'em up title?
Just a minor correction, Rare didn't start working on Killer Instinct after DKC, they actually started work on it before DKC. When they were first experimenting with the Silicon Graphics workstations, they actually wanted to make a fighting game and the first models they created were of a boxer and a female with a staff, who would eventually evolve into the characters of TJ Combo and Orchid. They put together a tech demo (called "Brute Force", unrelated to the Xbox game that would be released in 2003) of this and sent it to Nintendo, who were so impressed that they asked them to make a new Donkey Kong game. Rare of course said yes, but they continued work on the fighting game and the arcade version of KI would release around the same time as DKC on the SNES.
The Idea of combo come to think of it , may have started with the pirate version of Street fighter 2 "Rainbow edition" , I know the creator of KI was inspired by SNK's World hero's but I think though Rainbow edition was illegal so good came of it. Even Mortal Kombat with Raiden and Scorpion maybe have pick up the disappearing trick of screen.
the worst of the bunch is MS frankenstien KI... how many devs did that game go thru?? lol crazy. feels like a mugen ki. also a certain "dood" also gave it its hype for many ppl. 😂😒 only fulgore and spinal make it feel like KI in that version. the redesigns for some were terrible. glacius a huge example. nintendo KI will always be the standard and special. even the ost is better. hope someday that KI2 rom gets leaked. for the true fans. like starfox got. 🤔😁 maybe someday when MS loses rare it can be released starfox 2 style on snes mini 2 or something.
Loved the Michael Jackson puns. It's probably for the best that another SNES KI game didn't come out for it, due to it being late in its life cycle and the N64 coming out/being on the market
They say Killer Instinct 2 for Snes is way better than the first one, hope they release it soon, and not just for Switch but for the actual Snes also, like games like Comanche, and FX Fighter. And since we're not in the 90s, they could use more memory for also improving what has been done in KI2, like more frames, characters' size (ever played KI Gizaha's arcade patch?), sound quality, etc. Today 32mb for a Snes cart is a joke when the carts/console can run 128mb, hope they could add more things to it, somehow. See ya.
The N64 would have been so much better with a 4x or 8x CD-Rom drive. Also 8 meg memory by default. Then it could have arcade perfect ports of KI 1 and 2.
@@kordelas2514 yeah 300 bucks instead of 200. I would of rather had a 300 dollar more capable system with 40-50 dollar games than a less capable 200 dollar system with 70-80 dollar games.

I would have payed 400 bucks for this version if it could of had arcade perfect Killer Instinct 1+2. I payed some dude 300 bucks in 2002 to mod my Xbox so I could have that at home.

Maybe i will use (adding) transparencies for additional sprites. I was plan to use continuously audio streaming for using all sound effects. For now it's pre-alpha stage, it has only TJ Combo.
