I was 5 years old when my older cousin introduced me to mortal kombat and I was hooked! The SNES and the arcade is where it all began for me. Until this day I still own my SNES and MK, MK2, MK3, and UMK3 authentic carts in my collection. You’re actually making me get up to turn on the snes and play lol
I had the Sega Genesis port, and suffice to say, I loved it. But then I went to my cousin's crib, Eric Morton (God rest his soul), who had the SNES console & this cartridge... we both got the playing this - - man, I was floored! Everything about the Super Nintendo's port was on point! Comparatively speaking, SNES's was a lot more challenging - - occasionally, both Smoke & Jade would appear before a match... just like the arcade, for Sega's port was not able to do this. Johnny Cage's alternate red joggers (initially, player one uses blue). After a win, both Cage's and Baraka's standing pose images exactly like the arcade. Finally, I felt SNES MK2 gave a dark feel to it for when you finished with a fatality, the screen damn near became very dim. One of my top favorite SNES games of all-tyme!
"occasionally, both Smoke & Jade would appear before a match" . Only Reptile made appearances before a match and that was in the first Mortal Kombat game. Smoke and Jade peer out from behind the trees in the Forest stage in MKII on both the Genesis and SNES ports.
@@vh9network No, Jade and Smoke would sometimes appear before the announcer called the round number and fight, and give you a clue on how to get to them. It wasn't often it would happen, but it occasionally would happen. 12:26, there you go.
MK3 shows the Genesis could have handled a far better port of II than what we got. It still wouldn't have been able to replicate the music as well as the SNES (not that the SNES sounds all that much like the arcade either)
@@DenkyManner Probe really did a subpar job on the Genesis version. That said, Matt Furniss' music compositions were pretty damn good (though not arcade perfect by any means).
I liked the Genesis-version more. There is nothing "killer" in the SNES-version. The spear of Scorpion does not come out of his hand, but behind from his back, which is stupid. In the Genesis-version, the spear comes out of the hand. In the Genesis-version the winning-symbol is the dragon-coin, in SNES-version it's only a yellow dot. In the Genesis-version there are no disturbing chains in the foreground of the acid-map. In the SNES-version these chains disturb, you cant see the players, which sux. In the Genesis-version the trees shut the fuck up, in the SNES-version they growl all the time, which is annoying.

I've always wondered why they moved the names under the energy bar in the HUD. It may be due to the lower resolution of the SNES. They drew thicker, more detailed stone borders for the bars to match the arcade, leaving less room for easily readable names at that resolution.
In still remember back in 90s reading GamePro magazine and quickly I turned the page to MK II rating and it was a perfect 5.0 for everything. Later I got enough money and spent like $70 dollars for MK II at a Electronics store. The SNES port is the closet to the Arcade!
