I've had two I went to the ER for but a bunch that passed on their own. The pain is _insane_ for no biological reason. Actually peeing it out is the easy part. Having the stone _leave_ the kidney is what hurts. That little tube that connects your kidney to the bladder is the size of a piece of spaghetti and it actually GRIPS that jagged little stone as it tries to fall due to inflammation. This is why they like to get stuck.

I had my first kidney stone when I was 14 years old, When I was in 8th grade in Junior High. If I recall correctly, this was in the year 2005. I remember waking up at 4:35am, 2 hours before I usually wake up for school and I told mom I was in the worst pain I've ever been in. She was puzzled, but when I described my pain as starting in the lower abdomin with it radiating to my lower back area next to my kidneys, she said I probably have kidney stones, which makes sense, since my dad has a long history of getting them. Surprisingly, the pain went away after 2 hours, so I was able to go to school that day. However, a couple days later, I woke up around 5am and it happened again. Only this time, the pain wouldn't go away. Mom took me to the emergency room and they gave me strong IV drugs that pretty much took the pain away. I stayed at the hospital for an hour or two before they discharged me home with some Vicodin and pills that turned my pee an orange color, which was supposed to help flush out the kidneys. I am now 31 years old and thankfully I haven't had any big kidney stones since. As you said at the end of the video, the key is to drink as much water as you can to help keep the kidneys flushed out. My stones are 100% calcium stones, so I tend to avoid milk as much as possible now. I used to eat a lot of cereal when I was in school, so I think that's what did me in.

I had a kidney stone at 14 and I legitimately thought I was dying. I woke up one morning and had a small pain on my left side, I tried to ignore it and do some things to make it stop hurting but it kept getting worse and worse. My parents brought me to the ER and it took them forever to get me in (around 4 hours of extreme pain). I couldn't sit in the chair and tried to lay on the floor and got yelled at so my parents stayed in the waiting room while I laid down in the car. I ended up throwing up so much bile all over myself that I went inside and they immediately brought me back. They took a blood and urine sample and then gave me a CT scan and found out that it was a 5mm kidney stone which is about the size of an eraser on a pencil. I remember they had to give me so much pain meds because I couldn't move or anything because of it. I don't remember much after the CT scan because I fell asleep from all the meds they had me on but I was there for around 15 hours (from when we got there and waited until we got to leave). Now I get kidney stone one every year/everyother year but they are MUCH smaller and I can usually handle them on my own. I remember the first one I had I compared it to getting stabbed over and over while someone poured salt and lemon juice in the cut. I wouldn't wish that pain on my worse enemy.

Story time. Basically from birth I’ve had a kink of sorts (think of it like a hose kink) in the tube of my kidney since birth. This causes my right kidney to never drain properly meaning that stones build up easy. I got my first diagnosed kidney stone in 2020 when I was 13 (4 mm stone) and one this year when I’m 15 (10 mm stone). Let me tell you, literally the worst experience of my life. I was in a ludicrous amount of pain at random points in time and even the strongest pain medication doesn’t help. I was nauseous all the time and it lasts for about 2 weeks at a time. I had to pass both of the stones without surgery. The worst part is, due to my young age and my developing body, doctors can’t do surgery on my to put a stint in my kidney to open up the tube. So fun

I've had the misfortune of having a kidney stone once in my life. I was probably 8 years old and I had to go to the bathroom after watching a movie. Everything was going great that day, I had pizza for lunch, it was the weekends and I played plenty of videogames, and I just finished watching the Iron Man movie. I thought nothing at first since peeing is a mundane task, but as soon as I "released" I noticed something was wrong immediately. THANKFULLY it was a small kidney stone that could be passed naturally, but it was still painful enough that I had to lay down for the next few hours. The thumbnail described it perfectly, "it's like peeing glass." Even though this was more than a decade ago my body still remembers the pain and this video did a great job and reminding me about this repressed memory.

I appreciate this video showing what the kidney stones look like up close. I had a 6mm one back in March and got a close look. Lots of little spikes.
One thing you may have forgotten to mention is that a biggg factor of calcium kidney stones is an EXCESS of certain types of calcium and calcium supplements are a big no-no. Also you need to be careful about almonds and spinach.
The biggest one for a lot of people (if you don't count not drinking enough water and having too much salty food), is black teas and dark colas like Coke, Pepsi, and even root beer. I've unfortunately had to swap my morning tea with coffee.
Also, if you're careful with not getting too much on your teeth, citrus is a great way to help with prevention or even just breaking down the kidney stones.
This is all advice from my urologist and the side of my family very prone to kidney stones. Water is definitely the key, though. It's why my mom probably evaded one for as long as she did and why I didn't get one until I lost my job and am bad about drinking water when I'm sitting and working alone on my computer all day. I wasn't hydrating as well.

Suggestion? I had a foot injury many years ago where the longer vibes broke and the small bones at the top were crushed together. "Post traumatic arthritis" is bone spurs and inflama happens around there. And I can definitely feel my for warm up when I walk anywhere.
But unlike gout (that spikey uric acid that I take medication to NOT appear in joints... Or in my foot too!), there is little localized pain, and more generalized sense of anxiety, like the pain chemicals are triggering nerves differently, or the pain chemicals even traveling in the blood strangely diffusing. A bit of anti inflammatory does great for the heat and not-pain

When we showed up there, I told what's been happening and they said they would need a urine sample. For some reason I just couldn't do it, like something was blocking me from giving them the sample. It took a full minute of pain and crying but when it came out, it was looking like tea. They immediately knew something was wrong so they did an X-ray on my bladder and found 3 kidney stones. I'm 20 now and I only passed 1 out of the 3 since I was a child.
