    Intro:
During your childhood and adolescence, your body does a lot of growing, both physically and mentally. And the foods you eat during this time could have a lasting impact on your health throughout the rest of your life. I know…I never thought eating 500 Chicken Nuggets a day would fail me. I for one am flabbergasted! As it develops, your body needs certain nutrients. For instance, your bones need protein and calcium to grow. Your immune system needs proteins and vitamins B12, C, and D in order to work properly. And your brain needs choline, folic acid, iron, zinc, and special fats to function. Go ahead and ask your parents if you got all that!

As a kid I ate rather okay, not too healthy but not unhealthy either. My early teenage years were a disaster, I ate 2 bags of potato chips AND a bowl of popcorn. I've changed my diet quite a lot, I gave up my chips and a lot of other sugary snacks for more healthier options, and honestly, I'm surprised I turned out okay despite that poor diet I had.

Wasn't until I started biking and lost weight that my health recovered but even 15 years later I gotta have PB in my diet so I just changed the types. My family wasn't the best at eating healthy. Granted, we ate fruits like apples and veggies like carrots and cauliflower with ranch as a snack, but we also went all or nothing on the meat whenever we had it (we grew up pretty poor, so meat was a bit hard to come by, so whenever we could afford meat, we got our money's worth, lol!) Another thing we did was after dinner we would watch TV and eat entire bags of chips with dip, as well as cheap chocolate until it was bed time. I think this was because a lot of aspects of my childhood was pretty hard for my mom, sisters, and I, so we just sort of self medicated with junk foods that gave us a quick dopamine hit?
We all also tended to binge eat in general right after a grocery haul because my dad had a binge eating disorder and would stay up all night eating everything in the house and didn't really care if us kids didn't really have any food. We couldn't afford to do major grocery trips to keep the fridge and cupboards full, so what we would do is when we got home from grocery shopping when my dad was sleeping (he worked nights, so he slept most of the day), we would unload the groceries, and then just start eating as much as we possibly could of whatever we wanted until dad woke up, ate breakfast, and went to work, which was when we would break out the chocolate and the chips and ate until bedtime. We did this because we knew that all of the good food would be eaten, and that the next day we would be back to trying to make meals out of what our dad didn't want.
I was also very lactose intolerant and my mom didn't know about alternatives to dairy, so I never drank a lot of milk or consumed a lot of dairy or calcium rich products.
But I believe this lifestyle took a hit on my health. When I was a child, I was pretty tall for a female my age, and my growth charts predicted that I may grow to be 5'9" or even taller. Well, when puberty hit, my friends all shot up to be quite tall while I only grew two inches from when I was age 11-16. Now I'm 21, only 5'2", anemic because I still view meat as something that should be scarce, and had to teach myself to not binge eat all of my food after going to the grocery store because I no longer live with my dad so I can now save my food for later when I am hungry. I also had to teach myself to appreciate healthy food, which helped me stop being obese by losing 75 pounds.
With that being said, eating habits are so important to teach children when they are young, because even though these habits can be changed with hard work, it is still important to try to teach children good eating habits when they are young.

I started eating correctly and exercising at the end of november, until now lost about 4kg and probably grew some muscle from swimming and fast walking in total 3 times a week (Takes a total of 4-4.5 hours each week). And instead of sandwiches at work I am having a huge salad that lasts for the entire day, containing 3 cucumbers, 2 tomatoes, about 50g of corn, and small pieces of red pepper (around 20-30 grams) then I have a banana and an apple to back it up. At the evening I am having a big meat meal with some carbs and my body basically gets all it needs during the day.
I do however allow myself to have a take out (pizza \ fast food, etc) once a week and it barely damages my routine, still losing weight, still building muscle. Been doing it for almost 2 months now and I won't stop until I lose like 20kg of what I gained during covid. Will probably take another year or so.
Do yourselves a favor and start today, you will thank yourself later, I already feel lighter and some people noticed I lost weight.

You can do x amount of candies a day. Or they can have one at certain times.

      @skytis2796 Рік тому

Sup dude, take it form someone who also grew up short from eating too little: Now is the time for you to take things into your own hands. You most likely have some years of growth left. Here's how:
      1. Download "MyFitnessPal" and track everything you eat. Weigh stuff. You'll find out how much Calories you eat in a day. Do it for a week and see where you're at.
      2. For every week after that, increase the amount of calories you eat, gradually. Try to up it by 100-200 /week.
      3. Push it as far as comfortably possible. You don't have to do it to the point of feeling unwell after meals, but try to avoid going to bed hungry or skipping meals. Peanut butter, oats, olive oil and shakes are your friends here.
      4. (optional): start strenght Training. This releases hormones that also support growth and is just a good idea in general.
I ended up growing quite a bit and I attribute it to having done these things.
      Good luck!

I grew up eating loads of meat, though I eat the vegetables first because veggies are very important for my lifelong health. My brother eats fruit as an alternative to veggies because they are tastier. To me, taste doesn't even matter at all on healthy or unhealthy foods. My brother dislikes veggies because they taste horrible, but why would veggies taste that bad??

Interesting. Have you gone to a gi doctor to be checked for any gi issues? As a long time sufferer of chrons disease I had a similar reaction to anything healthy or that had fiber in it, except that for me it would put me in the hospital because I would always get a partial obstruction. It was horrible. I just had surgery this year and had 3 feet of diseased small intestine removed and I can now eat everything with NO issues, it's glorious. Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Unfortunately, there's quite a lot. Sure I can add healthy food to the mix, but considering where I'm going now, it's either that or a whole bunch of water with only one big meal at the end of the day. I wouldn't mind spending the time preparing for that, but apparently that seems like a big waste to others, and I have to agree. Otherwise, I'd just be putting off work for something no-one really understands. At least in the country I live now.

    • @andyb.3938

Less processed food. You can have steak just not too much. Lean meats are really good (chicken, turkey, fish etc), make sure you have some sort of carb and some sort of vegetable. Carbs could rice, pasta, fruit, bread (just not too much). Vegetable can be eaten in whatever amount and whenever you want.

Serious answer - because our ancestors often had limited food supply. Packing on weight when high calories food is available is a good strategy when you might not be able to find much food the next week, but a horrible strategy when you have access to whatever food you need whenever you want.
