  • My new Ampeg Venture V3 came in a few days ago. These have only been out a few weeks and I'm not really seeing any un-sponsored reviews, real-world sound samples, etc. yet - so I thought I'd throw this together quickly for anyone curious.
    Short story is that it isn't perfect but it's a keeper for me! Yes, I used a P-bass with flats as that's what I've been playing the most lately. I don't actually have a rounds bass on hand anyway, as my Jazz Bass has Pressurewounds on for the moment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thanks for watching and enjoy, feel free to drop any questions/comments/etc. below!

    I could only afford the 300w . I was worried about the power. Just done a gig in a medium size pub if there is a pa there,it’s plenty. I would say it’s a true 300w amp . Some I have tried are not truely 300w. Absolutely over the ok with the sound of the amp. Complete ampeg convert now..used to use an overdrive pedal. Not needed now. If it’s in your price range definitely give it a go. Our band is very loud and plays rocky punk if any of this helps. Not got a bad word to say about this amp

    Thanks for posting this review. I've been looking for a backup amp and we close to grabbing a Mark Bass nano, but then I saw the Venture series announced. I went up to GC to try out the V3 and V12 (I think the V7 hasn't been released yet). I used to have a classic SVT back in the day, so I was intrigued by the SGT switch. I'm also a P-bass + flats guy so I love that that's what youi tested this amp with. I actually like the the tone of the amp w/o the SGT, and a mild SGT with either the SVT or B15 engaged is pretty cool, but for me the heavily overdriven tone doesn't do it for me these days. I like a much cleaner tone these days. So I'm still undecided!

      @feinkevi  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I’m pretty much with you. While I can get great lightly driven sounds out of the SGT it really just sounds very nice without it on at all. I’m still somewhat getting to know it but I’m thinking my “default” go to setting on here will be either no SGT at all or very low gain and a bit of level boost on the B15 setting.

    Thankyou so much for doing this. I see what you mean about it essentially being a DI overdrive pedal with a power amp. Think I will leave the Ampeg Venture range well alone, despite there being a clear and distinct fun factor. It’s clearly not really what I’m looking for in my next amp. 🍻

      I’m not sure on the bigger models but the V3 runs totally silent and doesn’t seem to have a fan as far as I can tell. Seems to cool well enough passively with the metal enclosure and air vents to the sides.

      I purchased the Venture V7 and decided to replace the feet with bigger ones, as suggested. But I went with one size smaller so they wouldn't stick out as much (1 inch diam vs 1.5 inch). It works great. Here is what I purchased from Amazon in case anyone is interested.

    • @feinkevi
      @feinkevi  11 місяців тому +2

      The drive circuit certainly does some things I don’t need it to, but there’s a lot in there that I do like, too. It’s cool that it’s footswitchable. Easy enough to leave it off, though I suppose it’s silly to have this particular amp if that’s how you feel about the SGT sound.

      I bought the same amp a week ago and must admit , the grid mode isnt my cup of tea , sounds more like a fuzz ....The same mode in the SGDI Preamp sounds way better , is different and more suitable...Guess , its the Cab sim ,that makes it more useful.Strange anyway but all in all , I really like the Venture 3 Amp just for its pristine sound . Very clear with bottom and warmth as well , indeed a very good sounding amp and with the 300 Watt Version good for Home Use or rehearsals as well .

    • @feinkevi
      @feinkevi  11 місяців тому +2

      @@rawhead66I expect the cab sim makes a massive difference with more heavily overdriven sounds, the difference between cab mics and the DI signal is pretty drastic with a lot of gain on. If I were going for that sound live I would probably have to mic the cab despite how much easier plugging in DI is, def too harsh sounding direct IMO. I plan to play around with cab sim IRs on the DI signal in Logic and see how that does, could make for a pretty convenient way to track things.

      The Venture 3 played through my cabinets sounds with its grit mode really different compared to the same grid mode of the SGT-DI, played via headphones ...and cab sim on...Thats why, I use e.g. in the effect way of my other tube amp ,a small cab sim unit , made by Nux ...Comes with 8 different cabs and makes distorted or crunch sounds just sounding nicer and more smooth...That could be a cheap ,but useful option for the Venture V 3 as well .....saludos....@@feinkevi

    Greetings from Mexico, I recently bought one at Guitar Center, and I am exploring it little by little, what I have noticed is that the volume is a little lower than my previous Micro CL Stack, or at least it does not have the same power in the first three levels of the knob... I personally liked the sound of the SVT associated with the Grit with a little overdrive, but I don't know if it will be enough to sound live outdoors. I have connected it to the Micro CL stack, do I need to get another cabinet?? Thank you

    • @feinkevi
      @feinkevi  11 місяців тому +2

      The Micro CL is a 100 watt head going to a 100 watt cabinet at 8 ohms. The V3 is rated at 310 watts at four ohms, and about 150 watts at 8 ohms.
      You can totally use the micro CL cabinet with a V3, but the V3 could blow it if pushed too hard - so you’d have to be really careful about not pushing it too hard.
      As far as volume in the first part of the dial, that’s hard to compare one amp to another, as volume knobs can be very different from each other. On some amps all the volume is in the first half of the knob, others are more even all the way up the dial. My v3 has a lot of it’s volume in the later half of the dial, which is not something to worry about, it’s just different. It definitely has a lot more power than the micro CL.
      Enough volume outdoors is a lot to ask of any bass amp, but if you want to be able to get all the power you can out of the V3 I would recommend a different cabinet. You may want to sell the Micro CL and get a single 4 ohm 4x10, as long as it’s not too big or heavy to move. Or a couple of 8 ohm 2x10s would give you a lot of versatility to use a smaller or a larger setup as needed.

    • @rodrigomunoz6415
      @rodrigomunoz6415 11 місяців тому +3

      Yes, in fact I adjusted the Micro CL cab and changed the speakers for two Eminence Alpha 10s of 8 ohms each, and I connected them in parallel, each with 150 watts RMS, which is supposed to be the right output for the V3, and The sound is great, but I think it should have more punch... Only when I connect my Boss ME-6B Bass Multiple Effects pedal board do I get the necessary volume with the compressor and the master.@@feinkevi

      @feinkevi  11 місяців тому +1

      It can be hard to compare volume cab to cab just on specs, generally a similar wattage 410 setup would be louder (more speakers, more air moving) but you can’t beat the portability of a single 210. I’d think what you have should kick out a pretty decent amount of sound.

    Hello friend, I'm writing to you from Costa Rica. Very good presentation of the amplifier. I'm thinking of making a cabinet with two speakers Celestion Pulse XL 10.20 of 10" 2x10 of 400 watts each speaker at 8ohms. I'd put them in parallel so that they are 4 ohms and have a power of 800 watts. Would that be okay or would there be a problema? I work in wood and I know some electronics, but I don't know if it will be a good combination between the speakers and this amp.

      I have played mine and heard myself over a drummer just fine plenty of times, but depends on the drummer and the genre. It’s not going to keep up with an extremely loud mix. There is also a V7 that sits in a nice middle ground spot.

      As far as wattage it sounds like those speakers configured in that way could handle everything this amp could throw at it. As far as cabinet design I’m no expert but my understanding is that a good bass cabinet can be extremely tricky to DIY - you have to have just the right design to get the best performance, and you might find that a hand built 800 watt cab doesn’t sound as loud or as good as a well designed 400 watt cabinet. I’m sure second hand options in Costa Rica are a bit more limited than in the US but I would personally be looking at purchasing something used before building from scratch. It’s fun to tinker and build things though so by all means go for it if you want to, just do a lot of reading about how to sort out the best dimensions.

      @@feinkevi You are right, I'm seeing that making a cabinet correctly is not easy, in fact, I'm watching videos to learn how to use a program to make cabinets using the speaker values, in the same way, it is a project that I have planned for a few months in the future, for now, I will continue investigating. I was also looking at some cabinets on Amazon to see if I could import it, if I couldn't get around to it.
