I love the way 2Box allows you to download more samples from the website and load them into the module - some awesome sounds on there.
Love the transition from one module to the next. Way more helpful than other demo vids.
2box drumit3 hands down. Great module and sounds so natural
I’d also love to know which kit or sounds you’re using on the 2box as it sounds much better than anything I can get out of it. Really dry, clean and authentic which I like
Yup, not even a contest. The 10 year old first 2box Unit beats The Rolands of today. My god...
agree
Thanks :-)
Nice to hear my work still keeps up.
Not to mention that with SDSE you take the VST sounds out of any of your drum software and and turn them into instruments for the Drumit3 or new Drumit5... It's awesome!!!
I have Been using two Roland TD-8 V-drum modules as a steady performing musician for over 15 years with the most realistic acoustic sound anyone has ever heard from electronic percussion. This doesn't come easily and without major modifications to the voices. Ambience, shell depth, head type etc. I actually was one of the first to successfully convert acoustic drums to electronic and make my own electronic cymbals before they ever existed on the market. In a way that has been closely replicated over the years by Hart Dynamics, Pearl and so on. Alesis was then my first choice in modules in the D4, DM5 and DM Pro utilizing all three during performances. Today, I would never stray away from the best equipment in the industry for my job. ROLAND Performing since 1987 to present
We are users of both modules (Roland and Alesis) and I must say that the td17 module does not have those sounds once you regulate the basic and advanced parameters of the module, it sounds much much better, with the td17 you can also sample sounds and adhere them in layers to reinforce and clarify sounds in all instruments. Unlike this, the Strike Pro does sound in this video with the regulated parameters, since we have tested the Strike Pro module natively and it does not have the definition heard in this video, so there is no doubt, at least in these two modules, that the TD17 is without parameter regulation and the Strike Pro is, in this way it will clearly sound better than the other. Both large modules, likewise the 2Box DM3 very well ...
Alesis all the way! I did an in store test between 3 different modules before I bought mine.
My 2box drumit 3 32 GB best sound module ever.
That e drum kit looks amazing love the red finish👍
Thank you!
Awesome stuff...Beautiful kit here!!LIKE#72
Awesome comparison of the hottest stuff around. Thank you very much for that. Also perfect timing since I am going to buy a new module tomorrow. Now I am really convinced that it will be the 2box drumit3. Even with stock samples it sounds fantastic. And if one considers that there can be added other samples, there will be lots of fun. Liked also the strike sounds. Roland sounds like a toy, in comparison to the other two. PS you've got a very nice setup and awesome playing skills.
Glad you like the video man! I agree the stock sounds in the 2Box are really nice but for me I appreciate the Strike modules functionality to modify samples with layering, compression, reverb amount per zone etc where the 2Box feels very stuck once samples are there. I also personally like the way the Strike cuts the live mix through a PA better than any other module in my experience. The 2Box is really nice though if I didn't have the Strike I would have the 2Box no doubt! (I still use it with the Strike for added cymbal - my kit is large)
@@AtTheSourceStudios Man, especially because of you, I had second thoughts. After a lot of negotiations I got a used strike module in a great condition for about 600 dollars. At first I was disappointed, because of the low headspeaker volume level. But then I got a small headspeaker amp and the first thing I tried was your studio kit. And wow, I'm blown away. It sounds the real thing. Thanks again for your suggestion, and also for your great user kits. You're a genius.
Since we're talking about sounds here, i think 2box wins this one. However I wish they would make a more compact module like Roland since a heavy duty module doesnt look to beginner friendly.
If you can get a hold of the original 2Box Drumit5 Module it is much smaller, plus it has six outputs instead of four. The "con" is unlike the Drumit 3, it doesn't have universal compatibility with all pads.
Hey man I’ve got a question about the strike snare drum you use and love so much. When you are using that with a non Alesis module does the sensitivity knob still work? Thinking of snapping up a SE snare but I don’t have the strike module.
I've never tried tbh with the strike one but it did work when using the Alesis DM pad (pretty much identical design with sensitivity knob) with Roland TD-11 module.
I like the Strike hands down!
Does the Drumit 3 import wavs or do you have to convert them first? I'm looking at the drumit 3 as a back up for my Strike. But I use all samples in the Strike and need to transfer them all over.
You'll have to use the file program from SDSE. The 2Box file system isn't really user friendly and confusing IMO that's why I just use the Strike for imports. I had to contact support but just decided it was too much of a hassle. Some users like to say it's "easy" although they don't really like to say or show you exactly how to do it lol
I want to turn my regular kit into what you have...thanks
MUST READ- I really appreciate this Video- Lots Of TD17 dudes just had a hard time understanding WHAT is was that I was talking about- When I would say - The TD17 Cymbals sounds yummy 😋 BUT BUT - The Drum Sounds Sound a Little thin and a bit muted COMPARED to Strike Module- Anyone Please what and listen 👂 from 1:50 in on!
It’s like the Other Modules the Sounds of the Snare and Toms SOUND WIDE OPEN- When Josh switches to the TD17 MODULE all of a sudden it actually sounds like Thee Entire Sound has been MUTED A BIT!!??
This is what I have been attempting to explain to so many people but they could not understand what I meant?
BUT - Here in this Video listen 👂 you can immediately hear what I’m talking about 👍
Thanks 🙏 my buddy
Cheers
Strike sounds thick, full, rich!
Thanks for the video man! Do the Alesis or the 2box have a shotgun effect (Roland definitely is)when you play, say, 32nd fills on the toms?
Neither the Strike or 2Box has machine gunning. Both have round robin algorithm.
Thanks!
Do you still have the td-25 module? The more i listen to demos of that, the more I think the bass and snares are far superior to the sounds in the td-17. Would be interesting to hear those two modules next to each other.
Great video btw. My drumit3 lasted 3 months before it broke. So, im a little upset about that. I am currently saving right now to replace it with...i dont know what. Im thinking roland just for reputation’s sake.
Any suggestions?!
Martin Metz I had a Roland TD25, shure the snare sounds are a lot better than the Td17.
But the toms in the td25 sucks! I have now a Drumit 3 that module sounds the best when you have imported your own samples, I have all kits of SSD5 in my Drumt 3, it sounds the same as the Pearl Mimic. Only that module way too
Expensive!
Hey buddy.. nice video.. how´s the setup of the 2box on triggering... I dont git outside and dont care at all about the sounds of the module.. just need to find the best on (not crazy expensive) on triggering in my computer running vst.. Is the 2box is good or better than the roland td25,27 or 30? or the new 2box i´ts better than those ones.. thanks
Unfortunately, Roland modules have the best triggering according to e drum forums. And the lowest latency.
Hi i'm trying to decide between the 2box drumit 3 or the alesis strike module, i have roland pads including vh-13, i'm using it with my td-30 module but i want more realistic sounds, which module do you recomend the most? i want to import vst too, my main concern it´s about the vh-13 hi hats are they compatible with this modules?? thanks
The vh13 is compatible with the 2box drumit 3 and drumit 5mk2. If you plan on importing sounds the 2box is best hands down.
Great video, mate. But can you help me? I really don't now which one is the best: Drumit 3 or Strike pro. I want to just import sounds using SDSE from Ezdrummer on a Jobeky drums (and cymbals). Which one do you recommend? Does the 2box handle better more samples than Alesis? Which one triggers better? Thanks a lot!
Hey! Thank you for checking out my video!
Honestly only you have answer to your question. The two modules are similar in potential but very different in function. If you want to mix and match, layer, add compression, fine edit any of the samples... Go for the Strike. If you just want to purely import samples and are not trying to edit after the fact go 2Box D3.
The amount of layers is negligible. The Strike doesn't need as many layers for it's round Robin to perform well (general misconception of most people talking about e drums with no experience). Stock sounds IMO are better from Strike through a PA (better by FAR through a PA) but the cymbals especially from 2Box are TOP NOTCH. It's a win win tbh but if you ONLY WANT TO import samples and are assuming you will like those samples better than stock sounds and not want to modify edit or layer them after the fact EVER - 2Box. If you want options - Strike.
For reference I personally use both modules, Strike being my main module but run my two crashes through the 2Box using stock crash samples (as I said 2Box cymbals are LEGIT), I layer stock Strike samples with imported for drum sounds and use imported sample for HiHat. So for me I mainly use the Strike module as it's easier to work with and achieve my mixed sampled drum kits but if you just want to "set it and forget it" - 2Box. I just can't honestly say you'll like EVERYTHING imported better than stock samples so... The choice is yours. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! :)
@@AtTheSourceStudios Cool! Thanks a lot for answering!
Thanks for the great comparison! Strike and Drumit 3 both sound awesome, but the interface, faders and controls are what got me convinced to order the Strike module. That Roland sounds so crappy in comparison... It's like the guys over at Roland have NO idea what an acoustic drum should sound like :)
I agree the Strikes stance as a flagship module tips the scale overall. I purposefully didn't go overboard with the processing on the Strike to make this more even but the fact is if it were between the 2Box and Strike, you could modify the sound so much in the module you almost wouldn't recognize it whereas the 2Box you're stuck with what you got more or less. That's even with imported samples in the 2Box. Once imported... Stuck. The Strike on the other hand... Workhorse.
Roland is... Sad :(
Which of these modules have the least machine gunning?
Great video. You still have you td17 module? Thought maybe you got rid of it.
I did get rid of it. This is from when I had it.
damn what kinda kit/module was that playing at the end with the fat snare sound??
The Pocket kit!
ua-cam.com/video/zWFQme-K5sw/v-deo.html
I have had my 2Box DrumIt5 since 2011 and nothing beats it, the Roland snares are awful, the Alesis is nice, but in the way of realism the 2 Box edges it for me, there's no bells and whistles, its what u get, and it sounds more natural than the others, less artificial, more real drum sounding
I thought they all sounded good, but the kick drum on the Alesis blew the others away. What's your favorite?
I want this set..
Likely pulling the 'trigger' on an ATV aDrum kit and module. Any experience with the AD5?
I've played it once at the Chicago Drum Show for a good amount of time (I tried making a video but the audio got f'ed somehow unfortunately) and was pretty surprised with how not terrible it was to play. Sound wise very nice but does have machine gunning even with optimal settings. The hardware (pads/cymbals) are fantastic though. The drumset itself is just great. The module is very limited, like the 2Box but better screen and easier to get around. The machine gunning would frustrate me but the sounds themselves are very high quality. I'd say... The ATV drumset is a great buy.... The module... Is okay but for similar lack of editability inside the module the 2Box has better sounds and doesn't machine gun as well as being $2-300 cheaper with sample import feature so.. that's my take on it anyway.
SiREN-DRUMS 100% true, the toms on the ad5 machine gunning a lot! And they don’t sound right. The cymbals sounds are great!! But also the snares in the ad5 are very weak.
That’s my opinion.
Can you get the strike module by its self ? I was looking awhile back and couldn't find just the module for sale
Jeffrey Flowers www.drum-tec.de
@@fabianvinkenvleugel Yep... So far that's the only place I've seen them for sale outside of ebay. 900 euros (roughly about $1,015 with today's exchange rates)
Contact some music stores that sell Alesis products, they can get it as a spare part. That's what I did :)
The cymbals, toms, and kick don't sound that bad in the TD-17, but that snare ruins it. You would think a lot of effort would be put into making the most important part of a drum set sound good.
So what we found out is they all sound pretty good ... different ... but good.
Not the TD17 eating up 2box and Alesis 😂👏🏽🔥
I was surprised that I really preferred the Strike module. It sounds more natural.
It is like you are sitting behind a drumset it's great :)
Are you playing a DIY e-kit? Looks very nice.
Thank you I am!
@@AtTheSourceStudios Would you mind giving the details as to which internal triggers you are using for the snare, kick, and toms?
Strike FTW.... I think the 2Box might edge it out in a few of the cymbal tones, but overall I think the user-friendliness and feature set of the Strike module just put it ahead of everything in the $1k or less range. Oh and yeah, the TD-17 doesn't come close... Don't get me wrong, Roland TD-30 and TD-50 modules are fantastic, but are way above this price range comparison. Even the TD-25 is too expensive to consider for this match up. In any case, great match up and great way to showcase out-of-the-box tone for anyone on the fence.
TD-17 sounds better than the TD-25 anyway. I had the TD-25 about five years ago and liked my Yamaha DTX-900, that it replaced, better. I think the TD-17, which I have now, sounds way better than the TD-25.
Top
Iam trying to load a steven slate drums 5 kit in my TD17!
2box dsnd file to wav file the testings will get interesting!
Fabian Vasquez Jr What did you hear when you copied a multisample wav file in your Roland Td-17 module?
Fabian Vasquez Jr what happend when you are loading in multilayer sample wav files in the Roland Td17?
Fabian Vasquez Jr I have tried to load in some 2box multisamples wav files but I got the message sample too long.
I did not work. 😕
Imo the Roland sounds are the worst. The 2box and Alesis ones sounds more natural to me while the Rolands sound way too EQ:d and compressed. Very nice comparison though, would love to see/hear more!
Also are you using piezo or the other trigger
Sorry don't understand your question :/
@@AtTheSourceStudios i went to the website and i think there was 2 different types of triggers...thanks for the reply
Also are you using the mesh heads
The Roland snares sound so artificial and weak it hurts. Never really been a fan of Roland's sounds.
You are right… the sound of the kits is getting much better in the more expensive Roland modules.. but I agree.. in this comparison Roland lost it....
I thought the Roland snare sounded great, lol. But overall I thought the Strike sounded the best.
I use the TD-17 but with the drum kits sound from edrumkits.com. No comparison with the factory kits...
What heads are being used
Roland PowerPly (MH-2)
Damn. Alexis Strike sounds amazing.
Strike is my fav :)
@@AtTheSourceStudios in term of triggering and play feel with drum tec pads , what would you reccommend td17, td25, strike pro, 2boxdrumit3? thanks
@@AtTheSourceStudios i tried alesis strike pro and compared with td25 in store , strike has better sounds (amazing sounds) but td25 kit was amazing to play, alesis was really crap to play-hi hat was horrible, if i would have opportunity to make some combinations to have amazing triggering and feel like roland and sound from strikes i would be really happy -i am beginner with e drums and i have not knowledge in the elctronic drums
2Box....Clavia DDrum heritage...whats not to like :)
When you switched to the toms on the TD-17...oh my. Those are really bad. Happy I sold mine for a mimic.
Really? Can’t get an ad5 to buy??
Or u wanted one for free to test?
I’m in the market!
Please respond.
They were going to send me one but just taking to long to figure out the details. Might still get it in the future but not atm. They're easy to find for purchase though!
Ive heard atv ad5 videos that were simply amazing.... but played by the cleanest drummer alive, (Ralph Shumaker)
But then I hear it played by the average person, and its full of machine gunning..
I dont know if its because they didnt have the pads dialed in, or if it was sloppy sticking...or both.
Id like to see atv added to the mix
That was the plan :/ maybe in the future we'll see. Thanks for watching!
How much was it I’m trying to get this set myself
How much was what?
SiREN-DRUMS the set
@@jonanderson3979 oh that's gonna be hard to say lol the set in video is basically a DIY. Triggers, cymbals, drums, modules. Not hard to do on your own and suuuuuper coat effective but yeah unfortunately cant just "buy" outright without spending like 5k and up for the premade ones (mine was probably more like 2-2.5k total)
SiREN-DRUMS I’ve always wanted a set like that man
SiREN-DRUMS could you tell me the pieces of it I may just getting it piece by piece
2Box has the closest thing to acoustic snare response you can find.
Funny but the TD17 sounds just like my TD12 lol but then dont they all, I switched from Roland modules to 2Box.
Alesis all day
The alesis sounds better than than the roland
The Alesis is by far the best module. The Roland sounds like tin cans compared to the Alesis. The 2box is ok, but it sounds a bit thin, but that is just my opinion. Thanks for making this video.
can you say snare riiiiiiing alesis? throw away the win, how to throw away the win!
I have strike. Theres lots of snares that sound awesome. I dont know why he picked that one.
2box is soooo superior. Roland is sounding so embarresingly bad so you think they are joking....
