Love your analysis, Glad that you caught how difficult it is to deal with Airbending for equalists and chi blockers, not only is it rare but Air is every where, bending is fast and implied to be near invisible in world, it is very difficult to dodge or block also airbenders themselves are quick and evasive maneuvers with keen senses and long distance attacks. earthbending comes 2nd but Air is the hardest for them. Also Zuko had only one child, a girl so that's why Iroh name was given to the younger guy.
Love the detail in fighting Airbending and I hadn't actually realised that the Equalists wouldn't even be able to see it either 😂 Honestly makes their ability to fight against it more impressive. Ah so that explains it, cool to know the lineage of Zuko in general and that his daughter even wanted to carry on Iroh's name.
Asami does like Korra and she said so in this episode, her problem is with Mako and his indecisiveness between the both of them. She lives with all of them at Air Temple Island after she was betrayed by her father so it's important for her to not only do the right thing, but to show up for the people who have shown her loyalty, honesty, and kindness. She is also deeply forgiving to a fault, so she has very weak boundaries now that she's vulnerable and desperate for acceptance. Mako has spent his whole childhood trying to get through homelessness and poverty while his younger brother caused trouble. Here comes a hot rich girl who's already obsessed with him offering to solve all his worries. Asami and Mako make sense on paper. He actually likes Korra, but he knows how much trouble it would cause to be with her. They are often in conflict, they're on the same sports team which sustains his family's livelihood, his brother already liked her, and he's in a decent relationship with his one-way ticket to comfort and stability who just lost the rest of her family. That's a lot of reasons he would want to live in denial. He's making stupid decisions, but it's understandable because he's a teenage orphan with more responsibility than emotional intelligence.
Loved how you've put this, hadn't realised she has this massive forgiveness thing going on so that explains why she isn't hating on Mako and Korra as much as I thought she'd be 😂 This also would help her with just fitting with the group as I thought this whole conflict would put a rift between them but if she forgives and is completely fine with them being together then there really isn't a problem separating her from the group. Ah so Mako's decision came from practicality, Asami made the first attempt to be with him offering a potential future where he'd never have to worry about being homeless ever again and then Korra attempts a second so he's far more inclined to turn her down as he wants the future Asami's money can offer, but his feelings are actually with Korra.
@benspiller yeah, asami has more important things going on than the failure of a teenage relationship so as upsetting as that may be, she isn't going to throw her whole life away over it. I think Mako really does like her, but just not nearly as much as he likes Korra. He said himself that it makes more sense to be with Asami, but he and Korra are more emotionally volatile together and that can be very attractive to inexperienced teenagers with unstable lives.
36:48 I feel like this moment was back in "When Extremes Meet", when Korra was alone on Air Temple Island, crying - and the group decides that they want to step into the shoes of Aang's companions and be her "New Team Avatar" - I don't remember how you reacted, maybe it wasn't enough for you, and that's valid🤷 to that I tap the "Book 1 was planned as a one-off miniseries" sign, there's just only so much run time. If you decide to read the Chronicles of the Avatar novels, you might like how they've expanded on the lore of the Avatar's legendary companions - (almost) every Avatar naturally ends up with a team of trusted allies who have their backs and always will. It highlights how no one person can do it all and change the world, it takes diversity, collective action and community.
34:27 love this part of the analysis - as a high school teacher, this is why I think the romance storyline is so important to have kept in - it's SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable, because it's teaching a lesson, as I notice there's a tendency among students to immediately shift blame away - to assume everything they did was right, and it was someone else's fault it blew up (and this applies to things outside of romantic relationships as well - very similar to "the dog ate my homework" energy)
Okay, guess I just assumed since with Korra and Mako getting closer but hope there's a scene or something in the future to show there's no hard feelings.
Knowing that you've watched the next episode, Amon can still be anti-villian( a villian with good intentions or end goals but goes about it the wrong way), depends on how you view bending as and what your perspective is, do you think world would be a slightly better place with just all normal people working together without bending? Especially in this age of rapid industrialization and urbanization with spirituality and connection to nature growing scant generally speaking, bending is bound to get rampant. Amon isn't killing or hurting people but we see the Issue with Lin..to many people bending is a major part of themselves that he's taking away... and some do not misuse it , but knowing human nature and his past I can understand where Amon is coming from.
Completely agree, his past adds a whole new perspective on things, it's insane how they flip it but it's clear that he's a radicalisation of a somewhat moral desire, he wants no one else to have pain caused by bending or be used as a weapon because of it, no matter what the true villain was Yakone.
Not an Expert but as far as i know, airbenders Get their tattos if they make a new bending form, like how Aang invented the air ball when he was a kid From that Tecnically i think Milo should Get his Airbender tattos since he invented a new form, FART bending So give that kid his Tattos😳 thats sounds wrong
That's honestly a great point! 😂 Think you're right about the Tatoo's going to an Airbender when they invent a new form and after all, Aang was 12 and had them so get Milo some tattoos!!
@@benspiller I can't give you spoilers. I can only help you reason about what you've already seen. If Amon's action looks different than Aang's then maybe they are different actions, with different rules.
@benspiller You can also think about the fact that you've already seen three ways to remove bending. Ty Lee's, Aang's, and Amon's. As you can see, there's more than one way to do that.
Uh this episode is awesome - Mako were being an idiot not considering Asami and blaming Bolin for telling her but Asami was overreaction Korra was in real danger and needed help to get better - so neither were completely in the right nor wrong - but I don't really care for their relationship drama nonsense - also I don't really agree Tenzin and Lin are still in love with each other don't get me wrong they still care a great amount for each other as friends but what ever romantic feelings they had seems long gone to me - Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo were quite effective against the chi blockers due to them don't really having fought air benders before but I also liked to think that the chi blockers were ever so slightly hesitant to fight them due to them being literal children - it's funny how you mention how you wanted Aang to make a tornado since we actually saw him doing that in book 1 episode 5 - fun fact: Rohan is named to a tribute to Bryan Konietzko's nephew I find that really sweet - and Iroh is Zuko's grand son so he would most likely have been named by Zuko's child not Zuko himself - so she must have had a really close relationship with Iroh - doesn't just the thought of Iroh having a grand fatherly relationship with Zuko's children warm your heart
The relationship drama is very annoying and I do agree that they're all to blame but Mako just makes so many dumb choices it's hard not to focus on his part in it all. Love was probably too strong a word, but it's clear that Tenzin and Lin still care deeply for each other and the only reason they broke up was that Tenzin needed to have children, so at one point they were in love but they didn't end their relationships because they stopped feeling that way. The detail in the Chi blockers fighting the Airbenders is great and it's kind of nice that they were hesitant to fight since they're children 😂 I think I just wished Aang used a tornado more, seems very powerful in combat and it's just cool to see it used. Love that detail about Rohan being named after the writer's nephew, that is really sweet! Also, it's amazing how much detail can be pulled from knowing that Iroh is Zuko's grandson, the bond between Zuko's child and Uncle Iroh must have been so strong and it's just nice to know they did have a happy life.
The outro and thoughts are way too long. If you are spending this much time on them, maybe you can start doing two episodes per video and 5 minutes discussing your thoughts on them.
A lot of really good analysis in the outro, I'll add, but Bolt1121 right that it is a lot - ironically, the key to maximalism is editing and constraint: pick an amount of time you want the outro to be first, then challenge yourself to edit down your thoughts based on a standard you set (your personal favorites, the most insightful, w/e) while still fitting in as many as possible (just be sure it's still comprehendible - maybe (edit) *give yourself subsections by topic to build the edit around) Just the advice of a random traveler of the internet though, there's also people out there that love hearing every second of an analysis like this 🤷 you do you.
I remember watching this and feeling impacted by Lin … it’s like cutting a butterfly’s wings 😭😭
Absolutely!! The scene captures the pain so well and it feels like she's losing a limb!
“THE BEARD. IT SENSED THINGS.” 😫
😂😂

jinora, right now, is 10 years old!
ikki is 7 years old!
and meelo is only 5 years old!
just sitting here patiently waiting for the end of the love triangle plotline

15:49 iirc Zuko's ship often was said to be "gaining" on Appa in Book 1, sky bison aren't unrivaled in speed
My favorite character Lin ,proving once again she is the daughter of Toph the greatest earth bender of all time ❤.
Love your reaction as always💯
Lin was incredible!! She's proven to be an amazing successor to Toph's legacy, can't believe she lost her bending 😭
Zuko's voice is so iconic it took Ben 5 seconds to figure out who General Iroh was voiced by
😂😂 It's so cool that they brought him back for a new character but I will only ever hear Zuko!
💙
Love the reaction! As always, the thoughts and review are insightful and fun.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Sick new pfp!
Thanks 😁
Asami doesn't have any problems with Korra, its just Mako lol
Okay, guess I just assumed since with Korra and Mako getting closer but hope there's a scene or something in the future to show there's no hard feelings.
@@benspiller there will be, just a little bit later down the line :)

First reactor I've seen deduce that Iroh is the grandson and not son of Zuko. Nice attention to detail?

You don't need glow to unbending someone. You need glow to do what Aang did. These are not necessarily the same action.
Ah so there are more possibilities for what's going on so maybe there's the possibiltiy for Lin to get her bending back??
