  • In this video Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) of Patchwerks takes us on a guided tour of the QU-Bit Surface Physical Modeling Synthesizer Voice. Video includes a tutorial and sound demonstration.
Surface is a multi-timbral physical modeling voice capable of emulating the sonic qualities of acoustic instruments or morphing into otherworldly synthetic textures. Physical models contain plucked strings, prepared piano, and an assortment of melodic percussion, with up to 8 voices of polyphony. Creating a sense of space is easy with the true stereo outputs and configurable spatialization modes.

Even if I am not interested in a module you guys present, I always watch the videos because they are so damn good! And often they point me in the direction of another interesting module, which you used together with the module in focus

Surface does'nt seem to accept - process audio signals. I use Eurorack as a guitar effect. I think the Mutable Instruments RING does.

Just to avoid confusion - it doesn't appear to be polyphonic in the usual sense that word is used in relation to synths. With a single cv input you can only send it one pitch at a time, although once activated the notes can continue ringing over each other. So I suppose you could get close to what is normally considered polyphonic by playing a succession of chord tones quickly. Kind of like strumming a guitar. You can't play multiple notes at exactly the same time though. Unless I missed something?

not dissimilar to the Intellijel Plonk?

It's similar because they are both physical modeling but thats about all the similarities they share. Both are great and can stand on their own
