Hi Mel, this is the first time I've watched/listened to your Podcast, it's as though you made it just for me! Literally! I'm post-menopausal, 54 years old and I'm struggling with my weight. I struggle with clutter in my home, and I have self-sabotaged any efforts to improve my life due to a lack of self-worth and love which has inevitably caused me a great deal of anxiety. I have an inventory of amazing cosmetics that I formulated, and produced myself, sitting doing nothing as my mountain of debt keeps growing. When Jamie told the story about the investor who didn't think she could sell cosmetics because of the way she looked, I got so angry! Then I thought, I tell myself such terrible things or worse every day! Not anymore!
Your podcast has given me so much hope and motivation to fix what needs fixing and get on with my life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Mel! ❤

I was driving when I was listening to this podcast. When I heard Mel start talking about Dr Russ Kennedy I had to pull over because I began to cry. I have struggled with anxiety all my life and tried everything but never achieved success. The information Dr Kennedy shared on these podcasts blew my mind. I could not get enough and listened over and over again trying to soak up as much information as I could. I read his book and then took his online course. I am finely free and not so bothered by aniexty. It no long runs my life, I do! Thank you again Dr Kennedy and Mel thank you too, I love you.

It's a process, and certainly not linear. Give yourself grace for what you've been through and for the tough days ahead when it feels like you are moving backwards. I'm finally seeing the light and it's been a LOT of work on my end. I eventually stopped caring to learn about narcissism and to put the attention on me so it never happens again. I hope you continue to heal and your 2024 is blessed.

@@jojo14843 it's been over a year since he left. I've done a lot of work on myself.. mainly with Mel's tools. Identity is a daily struggle. I had to dissociate and regress to escape the madness. Now it rebuilding from the ashes, piece by piece incorporating old parts with new attitudes and perspectives.

I dealt with the damage for decades afterward. This issue was not well published in the 1980's. First forgive yourself. Yes you are smart but these people could win the Oscar for acting every year. Next forgive the narc for your own sake. The self care is so important. Somewhere I found the information that if you care for something or someone (like yourself) you will begin to love them. Love yourself. Best Wishes!

61 years old and now I understand that I'm not crazy! Years and years of being told that I was too sensitive, couldnt take a joke and was the butt of their jokes almost destroyed me. The physical abuse was "goosing" me and laughing about touching me in my private area. I could give more details but its too upsetting. Verbally, " you were so beautiful when you were thin." I could go on and on. No more! I am empowered now with knowledge, live 2 states away from my family and am now loving me. Gone are the days of mental, physical and emotional abuse. My name is Jean and I am somebody!

6:49 In case you're interested....my nemesis is coke. I used to hydrate immediately with that. Now I wake up with water with a half a fresh squeezed lemon, only that, no sugar, and after that a very nutritious smoothie that I make at home. That'll get me around 2.5 hours at least with no coke. Just saying.

The dishes, the laundry, the toys on the floor- WHAT! Is this what life is all about? I when it comes to laundry, never signed up; it was just my job?? Putting dishes away; the conversation; “put ‘em all away - get em all out again” this is an original song. Honestly, I’m hysterical with the insanity … it never ends. What was the lesson? Love you ❤Mel Thank you KC Davis!

Terrific review. The episode I keep thinking about is the one with your mother-in-law, Judith. I'm 64, and it's wonderful to see happy, healthy women with a great attitude who are 10 or more years older than I am. I keep seeing her in that red striped shirt, tasteful gold jewelry, just so comfortable in her own skin and wise. I thought, yeah, that's the direction I want to go in. I could listen to you chat with her again. I'd LOVE to see a chat with her and Oakley talking about generational relations. You have helped me SO much this year. I'm glad to hear you say you want to travel less and stop and smell the roses. I am sending you love, peace and happiness for the new year, and always.

I turned housework into exercise. I learned this from the blue zone where people never exercise. They don’t have to. We resent housework, but if we see, bending down is giving us muscles and stretching out to reach things for the cupboard is another exercise, then it becomes very different.
So to me housework is becomes so enjoyable because I think if all movement is exercise.

I am so thankful for you and ALL the years I have followed you, through your advice and experiences. First time I read your book - I wanted to jump off a cliff into the water with my then 9 yo son- as I was afraid of heights and knew I had to start learning (again) how to do hard things. I yelled 5-4-3-2-1 and jumped, and my son yelled mid-flight- “don’t think- just DO’ (and his cute little voice echoed over the entire lake). I could cry thinking of this monumental moment where we both overcame our fears through your strategies. For the only purpose of starting to train our brains that we could do hard things. We reference back to this often when we have to do something hard (usually the simple mundane stuff). I just mentored a young 18 yo young man (friend of mine’s son) on how to move from thinking to action (realizing that he wants to study at University but just can’t seem to DO it)…..I used the reference of the difference of jumping during the Triple Jump vs Long Jump. With Long Jump- we can cerebrally get to the line and know what we want, should or need to do but can’t quite make the leap off the line. The 5-4-3-2-1 action gets the jump from thinking about it and ‘just doing it’ and once you do it once you can go back and try and jump further as each time it can get easier to get off the line….Where as with Triple Jump, you can start by doing something easy to start (start walking, then increase to a run, etc.) and once you are in action and you see the line coming up- you have no time to think about jumping off the line- you ‘just do it’!! Happy New Year everyone- may we all find it easier to ‘get off the line’ in the New Year and support each other in making 2024 a fabulous one. ❤

GREAT NEW YEAR’S tip: think of a word that will represent what you want to focus on this year. Mine is “me!” Sounds self-centered, but if you know me, you know that’s not me, and I have to take care of “me” because I have spent the last 15 taking care of others. Last year’s word was “Focus .” Involve your friends and have fun with it. My BFF Cathy taught me this 😊

It is selfish, truly it is. I am not judging you as I was the same until 7 years ago. GOD must be put first then everything else will naturally fall into place. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life; no-one comes to God except through Me (John 14:6). Jesus wants you to to cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Only by repenting of sin and trusting in Jesus to guide your life are you spiritually safe for all eternity. I encourage you to prayerfully read The Holy Bible ❤

Great pop cast, Mel!!!!!! Keep going!!!! PLEASE BRING UP MORE ABOUT NARCISSISM. MANY PEOPLE HAVEN'T GOT THIS OR KNOW WHAT IT IS. MY FRIEND WAS MARRIED TO ONE, BUT THE THERAPIST
NEVER EXPLAINED THIS TO HER--SHE TRIED EVERYTHING TO TRY TO MAKE HER RELATIONSHIP WORK.
The therapist would say only--you know what you should do, but never brought up narcissist. Many years later, she was watching a show years later that brought the problems these people cause and people they destroyed. A bell went off and she realized she made no mistake in leaving, although at time she wonder if
she did. This late night you tube released all her doubts and peace overcame her.

So much great info! Thank you. I so enjoyed your first response about memorable guests - being your son, Oakley. I think acknowledging and appreciating the people close to us is so valuable, especially our children. I liked that relationships, self-love & daily self-care routines came up a few times too ... like "sky before screens or caffeine" Thanks again.

Thank you so much for being here Mel! You are so relatable and I have so much HOPE for the coming year.
I'm about to turn 49. I filed for divorce a year and a half ago. But I'm still cohabitating with my ex, and it's just not the healthiest dynamic for our girls. I have to figure out how to move out this summer.
I used to work in sales, but I've been a SAHM for 17 years. And have just been doing gig jobs. I love that, but I need to figure out how to make REAL money without going back to school. But I'm feeling empowered.

I loved the laundry tip and realising everything is a rotating thing and that all the thing you do do’nt have to be finnished at the same time ❤ as a full time working, single mom of four with adhd and sprinkle perfectionism trown in the mix definetly leads to burnout and the feeling of failure every single day. Thank you so much for this episode❤❤❤

Mel I have a mother that is a narcissist. We have had a tough few months. And at 81 years old now. It is still have very trying situation. I wanted to correct the part I heard with Dr. Rami. During your recap with her you mentioned one of her comments, and said it opposite of what she said. Because it made so much of a difference to me. I had to go back and listen and listen. But narcissist "are made, not born this way". This helped me so much.
