Man I totally hear you as far as the blues scales only. I think the thing is, the more you add to your vocabulary the more options you begin to hear. So for example once you get comfortable playing this lick you're gonna hear/experience it in your mind when you get close to the V Chord. Now you're hearing something different/not-strictly-blues over the five, and that begins to translate into hearing more than blues-only scales over other chords as well.
