    I don't play guitar, but I wonder if I could ask something: Would it be possible to use "thimbles"? Or maybe hard-tipped gloves? (Isn't that basically what Tony Iommi does, anyway?) Would that limit your playing style?

    • @TheMightyOrq
      @TheMightyOrq  11 днів тому +1

      That's an interesting question. Yeah, it is my understanding that Tony Iommi used thimbles on the fingertips of his fretting hands. My take is that for slide, it's a bit impractical, but the only real limitation is one's imagination. And time to practice. The Hawaiian steel guitar style (and what we know today as steel guotar) was invented by Hawaiian Joseph Kekuku, when his pocket knife slid down his guitar strings accidentally. So hypothetically thimbles could work. Maybe you've just invented a new way to play slide!

    Hello! Thanks for your video. I wanted to ask you if you can tell me the difference between jetslide brass and stainless. Is it an aesthetic issue? Or is it that brass is indicated for a particular style of music and that stainless is indicated for another style of music?
    Thank you for your time!

    • @TheMightyOrq
      @TheMightyOrq  2 роки тому +2

      Great question, and thank you for the comment! In my opinion a traditional over-the-finger brass slide tends to have a darker, more bass heavy tone while steel has more brightness. With the Jetslide I don't really know that it makes *quite* as much of a difference. I tend to prefer brass in general, but I think brass, steel, or the glass Jetslides all do a fine job and have a good sound. I think it really cones down to personal taste. Thanks again for your question, and happy sliding!

    What about size? Do I have to know my ring size? Women’s fingers are smaller than men’s. Is it gonna wobble all over the place when I’m chording from being too loose?

    • @TheMightyOrq
      @TheMightyOrq  4 роки тому

      That's a good question. From my experience you want it a little bit loose so it doesn't impede your ability to chord or play single notes. Check their website for sizes. What I do is if the ring is too tight I'll loosen it by hand until it feels comfortable. I've also got a sequel ti this video that goes into that a bit more. I'll put a link below.

    Have you tried the Black Mountain Slide Ring? It also allows for fretting.

    • @TheMightyOrq
      @TheMightyOrq  2 роки тому

      I haven't tried this one. I pretty much only use the Jetslide, and have been playing with one since the late 90's. For the variety of slide styles that I play I need something that can cover all the strings for barring/chording. It seems like the ring slides are great for single notes or maybe double stops, but I like the way a Jetslide can cover the whole fretboard. Thanks for the comment!

    I have an old bell or tapered brass slide called kick ass brass, seriously that's what it's called.
    I'm thinking I've been using it for 15 or so years, other than sanding it every couple of years it's my go to especially for acoustic stuff. Also have a old Coracedrin bottle, I prefer for clean electric sounds super clean with my ol analog chorus and as most guitar players I have the prepetuil fear of changing anything
    But I believe I'ma give this a try with the hope of finding one tool that will do both job's!

      @@greendragon2471 well just from carrying it around, dropping it, changes in weather causing moisture, sweating on it, it gets dull an stickey as in not as fast on the neck, so I use 1000 grit sandpaper and wet sand it back to a smooth polished finish, it doesn't take much at all to get it back to new I should probably sand an polish it more often but I'm lazy lol!

The link is below, and if you skip ahead to about 7:10, it should give a pretty clear example of what it is and how to wear it. Hope this helps. • @sundaynightdrunk
      @sundaynightdrunk 4 роки тому

      @Nix Jett I'm an old fart myself, and we had Coricidin bottles in the cabinet all the time. none of them were square. When we cleaned out my grandma's apartment, she had two originals (one childproof cap, another not) and both were round. Maybe they made a flat one for a bit, but I've never seen it. The Derek Trucks "coricidin" slides are certainly round, as was the Duane Allman repro they sold for a while. Not sure what else to tell you. Maybe find an example of it online? I can't, and I just looked. Here's one example: www.groundguitar.com/duane-allman-guitars-and-gear/duane-allmans-coricidin-bottle-slide/
