Phill Hartman and Jan Hooks are the stuff legends are made of... God bless their souls.
Yes. Rare talents.
Loved Phil Hartman doing a side-eye at Dana after he passes behind him. It’s the little things that make a difference. This cast knew about and displayed nuance. Performers who took their craft seriously.
I love as well how Dana doesn't go exactly to his side. It's like he's speaking to Phil's nose hahahaha then he slaps him
@conorsmith8551 lol I think he was talking about the scene before that, but yeah it is nuts what a mega talent Phil is
And the slap! 😂
Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman were two of the best SNL cast members. They are sorely missed.
100 % yes. From the current cast, Kate McKinnon reminds me a little of Jan Hooks. Such immense talent in both.
@@ZosiaZawistowska McKinnon is more like Denny Dillion(Dillion is a Lipstick Lesbian) than Hooks. Hooks actually protested an SNL show featuring Sam Kinson.
@@Tornado1994 I was merely remarking on their equal comedic talent, not that they resembled each other in any way. I do not know Denny Dillion.
Agreed, but Dana Carvey was just as good. They were probably SNL's all time best trio.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢jan hooks was a drop dead gorgeous and I wonder if phil hartman will be kissing her
I was 15 when this skit first aired. Ever since then, any time I spilled anything, I heard Nora Dunn smirkingly say, "A little club soda will get that out."
LIAR!
Same! And, liar!
Me too! I first saw this about 20 years ago when I was a teen and still that line gets me to this day, along with the “LIAR!”
Me too! Liar!
Me too!
R.I.P. Phil Hartman, the loveliest celeb I've ever met. And, of course, R.I.P. Jan Hooks. Still hard to believe both are gone.
lumariadp 😭😭😭😭
lumariadp met phil??? Lucky!
Brynn Heartman was an insane bitch of a wife that shot him in bed. There was justice, she then- did the same, to herself. 😫😭
He does standup, in Heaven.
Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks did this great video together on SNL- Love Is A Dream:
vimeo.com/108532626
@@CynthiaLK -- I watched "Love is a Dream" again recently for the first time in many years. What a charming, charming short film! Not only were Phil and Jan's performance flawless, but the mere concept of the film was genius. While not comedic at all, the film's poignant satire fit in to the SNL concept of that era. Saturday Night Live hasn't done anything like this in over 20 years.
Every time I see Phil Hartman, I have to cry a little bit because his death was so unfair. Then I can laugh and appreciate his great talent.
Phil and Jan are sorely missed..😪
Jan Hooks was so pretty. Especially for a comedy star. RIP to both her and Phil
This may be the best parody commercial Saturday Night Live has ever done. Definitely in terms of being very accurate to the commercial it was parodying.
Colon Blow is a close second.
@@SADFORIAN But this one truly looks like the commercial it was parodying. Someone watching it back then that didn't know the SNL cast may have actually thought it was the real one until they got to the end. That's how spot on it was.
@@KnickKnack07 You're right.
I went back and rewatched Colon Blow, and while it's great, it's nowhere near the same league that Compulsion was in.
Both pure Phil though.
Gilda Radner did a takeoff of a Harvey's Bristol Cream commercial that was dead-on.
For those who may be too young to know or too old to remember, what this is a parody of is, UA-cam: 1986 Calvin Klein Obsession.
There are/were three ads - one was Obsession for Men - that this is drawn from.
I remember very vividly when the original ad first came out everyone just stood there and asked - What the hell was that?
The SNL skit owes more to the 1985 Obsession, but the slap comes from the 1986 version.
This was brilliantly produced. Everything about it is perfect.
Miss you, Phil! :-(
David U - He was the GREATEST! The Simpsons went downhill after he died :-(
Jan is missed too :(
A little club soda will get that out.
Liar.
I was 13 when this came out on SNL and my friends and I laughed until we cried.
Love them all; this was a brilliant parody.
Just simply one of the top ten best SNL commercials of all time, IMHO.
I remember watching this when it aired and me and my family roaring with laughter
RIP Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman
Jan is radiant and gorgeous here
Loved Phil's annoyance at Carvey
R.I.P. Jan Hooks. :'(
This debuted two days before I was born! I wish I had discovered it many years earlier. This sketch holds a special place in my heart because it's supposed to be like the dark and sexy Obsession ads but it's so funny seeing Jan Hooks cleaning everything like a nut.
Tell me Phil Hartman couldn't have done a dark drama or something haunting for real. The man's acting chops were insane.
Bless you Phil. We miss you!
Jan and Phil were such class acts
Classic. Miss both of you....Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks. Both gone now.
This was even funnier cause at the time those cologne commercials were everywhere at the time trying to be all avant garde and deep. They were so overdramatic. Lol. SNL totally captured the greatness and absurdness of them in one great skit. Miss the 80s 90s 2000s days
Dunno how they did stuff like this without laughing the whole time, esp the parts with Dana Carvey.
SNL hasn't made an official Best Of Jan Hooks video collection but they've made one for Chris Kattan. Let that sink in
Both innocent and je Jeune ... 😂😂😂😂😂
Jejune. I don't even care that his mispronounced it. He was fantastic!
The most famous use of the word jejune in the past 30 years. Notify the Oxford English Dictionary.
Yes... she was.
RIP Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks.
Perfect.
Phil Hartman ...looks like a young Bryan Cranston?
4 wheels on My wagon I thought it was just me!
I thought he looked like Halston, ironically.
@@gonzalogonzalez4220 i see halston here too! kranston, a smidge. but his features are more refined than hartman's.
@@gonzalogonzalez4220 They actually did a few sketches where Phil Hartman portrayed Halston. I don't know if they're on UA-cam, though.
Jan hooks was so beautiful
“Yes. She was.” 🤣🤣
RIP Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman. Hartman is the SNL GOAT.
If you know about the major personality issues of Brynn Hartman, his wife who killed Phil while he slept, this spoof is much more haunting than funny. Besides her chronic substance abuse ("Compulsion" indeed), she was insanely jealous, both of Phil's success and any potential romantic rival in his life. That included Jan Hooks, the woman in this video.
There used to be a meme on Facebook with Jan Hooks saying "Liar!" I often used it just to kid around.
One of the greatest SNL commercials of all time.
Hard flashback in 2024. I saw this episode of SNL on Hotel TV when visiting NYC for the first time in 1995, sleepless from jetlag. My belly ached from laughing. This one, as well as "Die Sqären Östberliner"....
Even better than the original CK commercials. 😂😂
Just was watching The Super Models on Apple TV+ and had to take a break to watch this. It's more hilarious now than it was then.
LIAR!!!!!
Slap!
Jan Hooks was looking good on this, sheeeeit.
Go watch 3rd Rock From the Sun if you really wanna see her looking good.
This was such an accurate parody of those damn Calvin Klein commercials it's not funny.
Just genius writing!
RIP Jan and Phil.
I alone felt her torment.....her deepest secrets known only to me....*slap*
Best part
I remember watching that with my parents. Phil smacking Dana in his face, had us cracking up so hard.
The way Phil smacked Dana..🤣
"Liar!" Cracks me up every time
I saw this only once, but remember almost every line. I loved the CK ads at the time.
Rip.phil.hartman.i.love.you
Haha the shape of the bottle...
Ah, the scent of ammonia!
"Ah the price of it!"
phil hartman reminds me of halston here
Omfg if there was a fragrance for my life
Rock on Phil Classic SNL Rocks Fast & Furious.
30 people tried to use club soda.
lol, a perfect parody of when fine art, or english lit majors. End up in advertising.
Brilliant!! Creative!! No "cheap" laughs.
SNL has been a pathetic shadow of itself. It's painful. I can barely manage to make it though the promos or the brief mentions in the media.
Top shelf. Great work by all, esp the late Jan Hooks.
Still soooo funny.
The Hoover 1960s home floor waxer -nice touch.
I finally bought it. Obsession off a fragrance discounter. I paid about $20. What do you think it cost in 1986? More or less?
@0:50 was a borrowed bit from SCTV lampooning Ingmar Bergman.
My word, this is my life O.o
Im thinkIng "Last year at Marienbad"...
Okay, that one was funny.
That was a classic spoof. Hopefully Jan didn't wear those white tights out in the rain. Is there any chance of you posting the commercial for Bathroom Monkey?
Beautiful woman.....
Phil slaps Dana and neither of them crack
So incredibly brilliant....
Smack!
This skit used to kinda scare me as a kid.
Gets me every time when Phil backhands Dana.
My wife during Coronavirus! (I need some comic relief)
Jenous.
Yes...she was....
So tragic that there are like 3 people left alive from this sketch.
You guys ought to post the old Sam Waterston robot insurance commercial.
Yes, she wasss
This is my wife.
Jan Hooks was a smoke show back in the day.
snl was so artsy
I miss Phil Hartman.
Every time I hear Dana Carvey do an accent, I immediately think of Master of Disguise.
Jan Hooks !!!
Calvin Kleen. lmao
Where is the 90s CK parody of the hot guy making out with the golden retriever at the pool that was hilarious.
Save me……
Holy fuck, I'm old.
SNL was woke from the jump lol
Conversely, would an ad about the smell of a landfill be as seductive? No one wants to get close, they all just run away.
LOL
See. They don't announce his name or mention him in history. This is Phil Hartman who met a swift and tragic death after the turn of the century: google that
He died in 1998
Hartman was tragically shot and killed in a murder suicide in 1998 at the hands of his then Wife Brynn.
Obsession.. Compulsion.. Mehhhhhh, what's the difference?
Is that Isabel Toledo as an extra??
Little chocolate donuts
😂😂😂
So this is the "old snl" that everyone is always banging on about??
this is a really time centered skit if you don't remember the commercials back then like obsession it wouldn't get it.
"old SNL" is just as good as "new SNL". Old SNL is just remembered more fondly because people only remember the good skits and not the mediocre or bad ones while with new SNL you see all of them.
owen colgan - You're obviously too young to get the reference. It's a spoof of old Calvin Klein "Obsession" commercials.
Jackson DeStefano - Old SNL is a million times BETTER than new SNL
old snl had a lot of stupid skits we don't bother remembering in place of say little chocolate donuts.I think one of SNLs best skits is space pants and thats new
