Just one farmer to another if you take your samples from the face of the bales not the side so you get more of a sampling across the whole bale instead of a 2’ section of the windrow. You’ll have a more accurate account of what’s in the bale
I love watching you, Matt and Jeff working the cattle! A well oiled machine 😂 I’m a laboratory scientist and I love how you incorporate science into your program to get the best product you can, along with taking great care of the cows!
So HAPPY to see Jeff back... He & Matt make a good pair... I truly enjoy watch every single vlog in the 30/30... Hugs & Blessings to you all 🙏❤️💙💖💖💙...💙🤗(Matt) 💙🤗(Jeff) 🤗✝️
You have so good helper that help you I love to see all your cows. When I was little we had all kind of cows and animals in a farm. My dad was the one to do all that stuff you do for them.Love to watch you and McKenzie She can feed the baby cows too .
It’s great when a team can work together. Everyone hays a job, and everyone is valued. Makes for a great working relationship. Enjoy the 30 in 30 and look forward to them every day. Stay healthy and safe. Blessings.
EXCELLENT VIDEO Mike…!! I know how hard you’re working thru these 30&30 vlogs and it sure does show!! A HUGE THANK YOU to Matt and Jeff - they are just AWESOME helpers and friends…!!😍👏😘
30 in 30 #18! Thank You Mike for an action packed video! You, Jeff and Matt did an AWESOME job moving the cattle.... across the road! Yup, that chicken 🐔 was right "There goes the neighborhood!" Can't wait to see the feedlot as it develops! It will be a much needed addition to the ranch! Until tomorrow~~~~ Stay safe, healthy and happy! 🐃
Thanks so much for giving Jeff the recognition he deserves for all he does to make the ranch run smoothly. He seems to somehow know what to do and just gets it done in his own quiet way. It is good to see him back on the ranch. I am sure you appreciate the workload he takes off of you giving you more time to devote to your family and all of your administrative duties.
As stated in others comments, Jeff is certainly entertaining. We're going to be dipping ours in a week or so, really helps to reduce the mites and internal parasites. Well another good one Mike, enjoyed the interaction with everyone, getting it done. Thanks for sharing, have a great evening and I'll see you tomorrow.
Oh dear I miss seeing the calves. Thank you for the educational information on feed testing. We only had our hay tested once. But were told that the field was young and would be good for a few years. We always needed the same. Thank you for taking me along. You have a good work team and also I would work for you any time if I was younger. Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend. God Bless you and your family plus your farm team.
Great video. Another great day on the ranch. In Central New York we have high winds and snow is heading up the coast right to us. Wish I could turn it and have it head to you, heavy wet snow. Always enjoy the videos. Can't wait till tomorrow for the next one. Thank you Our Wyoming Life !!!!
Yup, absolutely! I got called away while writing my comment to yesterday's video and didn't get to give thumbs up to your girl's great presentation, so here it is now: 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Question: You sampled that bale of hay parallel to the ground, meaning you sampled one layer of hay. If you had sampled the hay at a 45-degree angle you would have gathered a better representation of the hay bale being created or am I wrong?
I hold my breath when ever you are working the cattle. It is so dangerous, they can turn in a flash and head butt you into kingdom come. Thank you for sharing and keep going you are doing great. How would you ever do it all without Matt and Jeff? Cheers!
Mike I know you could and would have moved those steers by your self . But I'm so glad you have Jeff and Matt to help you . Those are some big animals , that can be unpredictable . I've worked with hogs for over 40 years . One summer day I almost loss my sight due to them . It happens quick . God Bless and be safe .
I'm really happy you are testing your hay. We almost always had enough hay fields set aside to cover our operation but on year 2 of the drought my dad had to truck it in and the first thing he did was to get it tested before he used it. He was worried about the hay coming from a different region could potentially be poisonous to cows and cow bags and he was also worried about nauseous weeds being in it that can start on your land after feeding
Suggestion: if you are going to analyze the feed, Don't forget to analyze the manure to determine how much your steers are digesting and how much is just passing through the steers. Example: whole corn passes through whereas crushed corn has a better chance of being digested and add weight.
He said he’s testing the feed for nutritional value to make sure the feed fed to the steers are nutritious . What you said is true and all ranchers/farmers know that but he wants to make sure the feed is nutritious to begin with.
Crackerjack should live with Doof as a pasture buddy. That would give him purpose in the world and allow your lone bull a partner for a while. It would also make it easier to keep track of where Doof is, since Crackerjack is easy to see.
Oh goodness I’m feeling the wind today in the north east. (I’m a day late so idk you’ll read this lol) I like when you’re doing these cow tasks with your farm buddies cause it sounds like you’re having fun.
Always interesting videos from y'all! Was nice to have no wind this morning even if it was for a little while. It's now 55° this 5:15pm evening it's now windy & cloudy outside... & I hope my knees aren't hurting for no reason, that we get some much needed moisture this week! I remember my ex father-in-law getting some hay that was peas & oats that was so 'hot' he lost not a small amount of cattle to it [36]! Insurance sadly didn't cover the loss... Good to see Jeff back on camera! 🤠🐄
Awesome vid again Mike! Nice to see Jeff and Matt again as well! Watching you move the cows is totally fun for me although back in my days we used horses lol Thanks so much for the memories!
It is so enjoyable watching you men, doing the mini-round-up! You are very well coordinated!!! Very interesting, that you get the grain and hay 'tested' for free. That is an awesome service! Bout time that someone looked out for the small farmer!!! Happy Day! Bev in Maine
If Bambi will cooperate you can have her step 1 front hoof in a container with a 1/4” of black or other color ink then step her inked hoof from the ink container onto the t shirt for her signature. I did that with one of my stallions for farm promo and advertising for his stud service on t shirts and it worked pretty well. Last time I checked FBN was not doing business in Washington state yet. Will check with them again soon.
Food for thought... I had a neighbor that I worked for now and then. He had a 16 year old border collie that could still punch 80 cows through a 20ft gate faster than 3 able bodied men. That was the sweetest cattle dog I ever met and she was NOT professionally trained, just living on a farm wanting to please her humans. That was her last summer as the winter before her arthritis was painful to watch and she was put down.
Hi Mike and Erin and crew! I really enjoy the 30/30 videos! Have you ever considered staggering your births? Like quarterly or semi annually? That way you could have steers ready year round… Just a thought… 🧐🙄 Sincerely, Sam Hanson 😎
Thanks for the informational video, Mike! Looking forward to seeing your new feed lot set up for finishing your steers. Hope it works as well for you as ours does for us. Really like your Arrowquip squeeze chute set up. Looking forward to tomorrows 30 in 30.
I'm curious to know if your Ranch is given compensation for the drought, and feed transportation cost by USDA? Will the testing show the total nutritional value, moisture and temperature? Hay quality for our Dairy farm is essential for production-
Mike said in a video 1 to 2 years ago that beef cattle ranchers were still not getting any assistance or subsidies from the US government at all. Has always been that way for privately owned livestock ranchers and farmers as far back as I can remember to the early 60’s. Crop and row crop subsidies from the US government are very common though. Never seemed fair or made sense to me as both are feeding the USA and beyond and weather conditions, soil, invasive insects and disease affects both as well.
@@aaronclark1599 Good afternoon, thank you for your reply. i know there are programs for Farmers/Ranchers that are starting up or have increased production ( small dairies, ranches). USDA Pandemic assistance for producers initiative that started in march 2021 and still going.
@@robinwhitlatch4497 Good afternoon and thank you for your reply. I believe in what you're saying. I feel that our Dairy/Ranch farms are being discarded by our government. Plus, our food supply is at risk from all imported foods. I'm going to support our Dairy and Ranches.
woo hoo catching a premiere!!! Love it. Question I always wonder... What do you prefer to have a bull or heifer? With the new structure of your business what is your preferred ratio and do you plan on expanding the number of female cows that you keep to breed in the future? Keep up the great work! Love it. From NYC so I still wonder how I ended up on your channel but sure glad I did.. LOL
Bulls become steers and get eaten. Cows keep the cycle going by birthing both and are kept way longer as long as they have calves.. They're both beneficial.
I think I recall Mike saying they will keep back most heifers to become replacements and grow the herd back to about 75 (or so) momma cows. When people ask me that same question for our ranch, my answer is I want a live, healthy calf….I can make money with either sex as long as they’re live and healthy.
Hey Mike, just a thought, feed out heifers and sell your steers as feeders. Heifers will finish lighter (less input) and steers are worth more as feeders. And no difference in taste.
Everybody we love the 30/30!!! You are right knowing the nutritional value is the secret to your success with your herd!!!!
Just one farmer to another if you take your samples from the face of the bales not the side so you get more of a sampling across the whole bale instead of a 2’ section of the windrow. You’ll have a more accurate account of what’s in the bale
Thanks again for another great 30 in 30. Thank you all for doing what you do to help us all to keep food on our table.
Just love that Jeff and Matt can help you and expand their life. Said by a 71 year old gal who is quite envious 😊

Matt and Jeff are so helpful! Jeff is a beast on that 4wheeler! I am sure you appreciate their help!
Great stuff gentlemen. Nothing beats the feeling of a small team working together in concert. The direct to consumer model is surely on course.
It’s so funny to see the Cowboys round up the Steer’s with 4-Wheelers instead of doing it with Horses like the old Western Days 😀😅
Seems like you have a couple of fun helpers with Matt and Jeff.
So glad you have Jeff and Matt to help. We believe that being with you out in the fresh air has been better for Matt. He looks healthier.

so much easer to move cattle with 3 people then by yourself. I bet Mike is liking having the help.
