Another one of my favourite pieces to play - it is such a beautiful work, an expressive mixture of singing melodies and captivating rhythm. Piazzolla's New Tango is not just simple dance music, but an emotionally rich world, melding together nuances of both classical and jazz music.
Arr. Sérgio Assad
I hope you enjoy!
Invierno Porteño is one work from a set of four tango compositions. Each piece was conceived as an individual composition, but together they form the Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, or The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Porteño is an adjective for people born in Buenos Aires, and the word Invierno refers to Winter.
What a performance. What a musician. That balance of clarity and musicality that we all strive for.
What kind of strings are those?

Totally amazingly beautiful……..amazing musician
If you think this is great you should really hear Zoran Dukic's version. Much cleaner timbre, musicality (Because she doesn't have much of it that we can say) and passion.
Cómo toca la guitarra esta joven mujer!!! My Argentinian heart is melting listening to her play my favorite composer !!!! My dad played music by Astor Piazzola in guitar as well , he passed away many years ago and he would be so impressed and in awe of this talented young lady . 👏👏👏👏
The technique, the expression but most of the musical dialogue that tells a story almost like watching a classic movie drama is amazing in this performance.
This woman's playing on the strings of that guitar is the most porteño and Piazzola I've heard in years. She plays a difficult and beautiful piece by the incomparable Astor. I loved it, I am very grateful for the sensitivity, the clear notes, and for all the beauty that Stephanie gives us. Congratulations!
Your PERFORMANCE of Piazzolla Is brillant !!!
Thank you for that !!!
I'm from Argentina
In the past 2 weeks I've been hearing over than 15 top classical guitarrists playing this Invierno (and others, Otono & Primavera) and none else plays Piazzolla like Stephanie, indeed! Piazzolla requires energy, passion, some violence and a honey swetness, sometimes all together along a single phrasing, free rithym, free dynamics and so on.... Missing to hear Verano Porteno with her!!! I'm absolutely sure that Sérgio Assad is very proud, rapt and joyful on hearing (and seeing) Stephanie playing his arrangements for guitar of these 4 Piazzolla's master pieces. She hit on the nail! In fact, on the strings! :)👏👏👏👏
Stephany Jones, is a monumental guitarist, from another planet!
love your comment, especially the bit about violence and honey sweetness. love the contradiction :)
Truer words have never been spoken. You hit the nail right on the head with your review!
Have you heard zuran dukic? His version for me is better, i feel like she plays too fast when it should be more slow and melancholic
I see that your comment is three years old now. In the interim Sérgio Assad wrote a piece for her! So yes, he paid strict attention.
Still my favorite. She's just so... it's like she's coaxing and leading her guitar do things it never thought it could, and it keeps delighting her with it's responses. It's like a wonderful dance.
It is my first time hearing Stephanie Jones, and I have to say I am blown away by her playing. She seems to get to the heart of Piazolla in this piece, more than any other guitarist I have heard playing his music. I look forward to hearing more.
This lovely young lady is phenomenal. She lives what she is playing and she is loving it. She is just fabulous.
got to LIVE it!🎶💕🎸🎼👨🎓
Stephanie is a highly qualified performer...a Highly Quality musician...A gifted person...she's got what it takes, to be a star...

Sometimes one hears a performance and is inspired to practice and sometimes one hears a performance and desires to burn the instrument and just forget trying to play...and very rarely one hears in a performance the very essence of the place and time which inspired the composer to speak about the way they felt about the time and place. Bravo.
So true... I am an argentinian from Buenos Aires, now living abroad, and while listening to this with my eyes closed I can see many different scenes... an old "quinta" by the countryside, a bench in a plaza surrounded by palos borrachos and jacarandas, a downtown cafe... but all in a time before mine, a time of cachafaces and tamangos... this interpretation is a living tale.
You can really tell how much she internalized and expressed the feeling of this music. SO GOOD!

Every moment when I am listening to Astor Piazzolla's music I am living brightly, again and again, through someone other's life in some other country and in other times, to die as someone inconnu but so close to me.

The cleanliness of technique is outstanding, I’m blown away.
Some days you stumble on a video, and find pure talent.
Today was one of those days.
When I began classical guitar study in my 20s, I was only one of two women in our department. There were not many guitarists then and it was kind of discouraging.
I can’t express how happy I am to see so many women playing and playing beautifully.
@friendly Jew Get off the Tube.. Your fowl mouth and demeanour stink.. You're going down the loo like a piece of shit brainless IDIOT
I am also really pleased to see that. It would appear that the jazz world is beginning to experiance the same thing. It's about time!!
I dont think it is a sexism comment but the opposite pethaps. The guitar and lute have been male dominating instruments for the past 300 yrs or longer unlike the piano and the violin. Now its time for more female composers as well.
But the men that playing really well are under appreciated. Maybe the music and popularity is what the majority is into. Her style is playful but not romantic for sure. Consider the classical guitar is the most romantic instrument...…..Ahhh whatever!
@@benkim2016
Why is it "time" for female composers? Does this mean more men should play Piano and Violin as more women play Guitar? Certainly there is a new range of emotions imployed by having a female composer, but much like if they were a man, you would still get a new sound as everybody is different. What makes it high time for female composers, and is it more important what they bring to the table, or simply the fact that there should be more female composers, even if it makes little difference?
Stephanie, Thank You !!! excellent interpretation of Piazzola thru Assad's arrangement. To top it off your feeling of Tango is extremmely high. I listened to Piazzola and tango all my life, since young age and can tell who captures the spirit of it. You did. Thanks.
Uffff.
This is my first time hearing this piece, and I will admit that I got a little teary eyed at this rendition. Beautiful music.
Tango argentino, Qué esperas?
Being Argentinian, I could'nt express how much I loved your interpretation of this beautiful song by Piazzolla. You trully captured it all. So talented, great playing from you. Congrats!

Suddenly the sound flowing from the
guitar has changed to transiting
light and sadness...
It is really soothing🌹
It made me happy, blew me away, and bummed me out all at the same time.
Great performance!... (maldito tango!)
Emotional, when Piazzola dedicated this song to Buenos Aires....And even more his very personal profound pain when his Dad passing in "Adios nonino", or goodby grandpa.
2 million views. I hope that somehow without any promotion a million people are listening to Stephanie's music and not just a handful of us like me who have played this video like 200 times. Best guitar version of this tune!!!
Estefany is a monumental guitarist, and the classical concert guitars that she uses are very expensive, the sound of those guitars is impressive.
These are the results that happen when you practice 25 hours a day... 366 days a year forever and a day!!! Stephanie you are so impressive and inspirational!!!! U look so young, but yet you AR so polished poised and professional!!! And each finger is independently controlled INDEPENDENTLY!!! Your choice of notes and the Dynamics you use are phenomenal!!!! The unusual left hand fingering positions shows that you have complete Command of the instrument!!! and that Latin Funk touch is Amazing!!!! Plus the fact that you look like you're having so much fun doing it, is a wonderful sight to behold!!! Motivation for all!!! The correlation between the right hand in the left hand is absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! And I love the fact that you've practiced your craft to perfection... so that you don't even have to think about the technical aspects of your playing.... You can just enjoy the performance along with all the rest of us!!! (and that is a sign that you have arrived)!!
A true Testament once again to what happens when you apply yourself and do the right thing at the right time with the right tutelage!!!! CONGRATULATIONS young lady CONGRATULATIONS!.🥂
This has to be my new favourite rendition of this piece. Such a beautiful arrangement and musical interpretation :) everything is just right
She manages to express the poignancy of the music. She is gorgeous. What an expert.
Every single time I watch/hear this, I just want to click "like" again .s2
Is amazing how the music flows through your body like electricity, every wave pulsing and traveling through you, simply unbelievable, thank you very very much! greetings from Argentina!
She’s such an amazing musician
Damn, I’ve heard this melody a thousand times. But this is seriously in the top3 of versions Ever made.
I second you.
I third you
This young lady has such amazing technique and presence. Astonishing!
Oh. My. Goodness.
I've not listened to much Piazzollla on guitar. You've got me started.
The harmonious relationship between this young lady and her instrument is astonishing! Bravo 🙏👏
Absolute perfection!! Tempo, arrangement and execution. I feel like throwing away my guitar, it is just exquisite performance.
you are a God sent young lady. Thank you !!
Exceptional. Piazzolla was a master composer. It's unfortunate that so many people have never even heard the name. But, that is a symptom of modern culture. Too much emphasis on appearance and easy to listen to ear candy. Thank you for sharing.
Grazie mille ciao.
Utterly superb I have heard this melody before but never as beautiful as you played it.Stephanie you are without doubt one of the finest guitarists there has ever been, in my opinion. I love everything you do for the love of music.
oh my god that harmonic at the end, i love it, a beautiful interpretation and arrangement, greetings from argentina
Piazzolla composed for us to do what we wanted with him. And you Stephany know exactly what to do with Piazzola. I like this!
Wheather playing Piazzolla , Bach or Walton Stephanie's playing is always compelling. A huge technique and color range in service to the music.
Always, with multi-layered emotions through the vibration of the strings and physical performance; that, and she has a pretty radical hairstyle. It's lovely.

holy guacamole .... crazy technical perfection Batman!
Gives me pure pure.. serenity I wish I could listen to her playing guitar all day all year around. It's a joy to listen to the pieces she selects and plays.
I live in Vancouver, WA and Stephanie is coming here! I'm over the moon.,.......
Perfeita ! Bravo !
As an argentinian I can say that you really captured the feeling/emotion of tango, it is great what you do, Stephanie.

Such a beautiful and deep performance! I really felt this piece like a conversation with great Astor and his tango nuevo... It’s also so inspiring to try to play such delightful arrangement! Thank you very much!
Flawless, emotional, delightful performance. Thank you 🙏🏼
I might be at my hundredth listening in a row at the moment and I still can't get enough.
For one who likes all sorts of "wild "music , this performance is something I can't nail down.
Enviable!
Dear musician please keep safe in these times!
Forgot that I heard and watched this five months ago....So pleased to see and hear again....You are a superb player!!
The cleanest accents I have ever heard. Awesome
I second this
@Wade Mercer the way she annunciates each note and puts feeling into it to create mood.
speachless, beautiful and talented. So sad to only find it on youtube and not evrywhere...
I'm starting in my 60's after a lifetime of only the minor pentatonic. Amazing sound and visual.
That was stunningly beautiful. To hear such flawless technique played with such sensitivity is quite breathtaking.
This is so incredibly beautiful, there are no words

Organic, almost green in it"s texture. The guitar is alive in your hands. Thank you for sharing!
Gracias!!!
Maravillosa interpretación. ❤️
Last harmonic 😍
So young and accomplished musician! Bravo!
Very nice tone; crisp, tight, and defined, but never harsh or brittle. Elegant and refined phrasing. Thank you.
That was absolutely mesmerising.
Stunning interpretation, you are Astor's memories of a cold morning in Baires City... we should granted you an Argentinian passport ... thanks , keep it up ! you've got an incredible journey ahead .
This is definitely the best version I’ve heard on YT. Came back every time I wanted listen to some classical guitar pieces. Really appreciate it, thank you for the beautiful playing.
It's hard to explain, but not only does she hit all the notes with clarity, she also has a feeling for the piece.
absolutely stunning
Wow! Wow! Wow! Thank you for sharing such an amazing piece and playing with such passion. It is a beautiful piece masterfully played!
belíssima interpretação! bravo!!! aplaudindo aqui, de pé! BRAVA!!!!
