  • (This method is only for smartphones, do not try it on tv screen or monitors) This is an experimental video, in this video, I have used 3M 1500 grit sandpaper and cerium oxide for removal of the scratches. I have removed scratches from my old Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro (gorilla glass 3) which was scratched badly almost there was a layer formed by the scratches which cause visibility issue and ghost touch issue sometimes. So, I first removed that scratched layer with 3M 1500 grit sandpaper and then polished with cerium oxide to remove minor scratches, you can also use 3M 2000 grit sandpaper depending on-screen damage.
    You can buy these products from the following links (Amazon):

    Thanks for making this video. The result looked great. Did you have any touch screen issues after doing this? I am considering doing this to a used phone with some deep scratches. Don't worry, I won't blame you for any damages, haha.

    I personally thing that using sandpaper is a rather risky move. Although it may be the only way to get very deep scratches out of the glass, it may result in an uneven finish and if you use the wrong type of sandpaper, can render your phone unusable. Unless there really are very deep scratches on your screen, I would reccoment that you steer clear from the sandpaper. If you choose to use it, use sandpaper of a very high grit number (2000 grit to 3000 grit) and which should be available online of at most hardware stores.

      Need to use water. 1500 or above won't scratch glass. But this is the important part, some cell phone screens are plastic. Now you have to use a polisher as well.

    I would rank this "Repair" procedure in the top 1% most idiotic ideas. There is a reason why the glass on phones, tablets, and laptops is replaced rather than repaired. Rather than typing out a detailed analysis, I'll just touch on a few of the major issues at hand. Let's start with the coating. All screens have a layer on the outside that consists of a mixture of polarization, anti-glare, anti-reflective, and/or anti-fingerprint properties. This AR/AG and oleophobic coating is obliterated with every stroke of the sandpaper and every revolution of buffing pad doped in CeO2. If you think a scratch on a screen is bothersome, after this abysmal hack you will not be able to use you phone in any bright light conditions. The oils left behind from every touch on the screen will become unbearable, highlighted and further aggravated by the lack of AR/AG in the presence of external light sources such as the sun or overhead lights. There is also the issue of the CeO2 working it's way into the tiny holes used for the microphones and speakers, the inherent water damage (as water is used as the CeO2 carrier) is further exacerbated with the increased conductivity of CeO2. Edit: There is also the issue of weakening the glass due to the properties present in all laminate/gorilla/saphire glass. I'm tired of typing, you can find more with a simple web search, using terms such as "Lipophobicity". TLDR: Buy a new screen.

    • @ShivamRane
      @ShivamRane  3 роки тому +28

      Buying a new screen would cost min 5000 rs / near about 70 dollars, and watch video properly it can be clearly seen that screen is badly scratched and all the coating are removed already. Polarized layer is situated under the glass for LCD displays..

    • @Cameron_J
      @Cameron_J 3 роки тому +1

      @@ShivamRane Although I mention a polarized layer, it was referring to non touch devices such as monitors, tvs, etc. I have removed the polarized film on a couple of monitors to use as a privacy monitors I can indeed inform you the layer is right on top. I only mentioned these non touch devices because I can see some kid watching a video such as this and thinking (s/)he can fix the scratches on his/her monitor the same way this guy removed them on his phone. It would completely destroy the film rendering the monitor useless. I tried to make my comment universal for all screens, not just phones. It has become apparent that some people may become confused, especially if they fail to fully understand the underlying technologies of a device. Samsung is the predominant manufacturer of cellphone screens, and has been for a long time now. You might own an iphone, but Samsung still made the screen. Almost all of the screens they produce now for this purpose are (Super-/)AMOLED. LCD technologies are very rarely used in mobile phones anymore and have been obsolete for some time now. Phonearena has an article on Gorilla Glass and there is a video here on Yt by Corning. Also search wikipedia for: Comparison_of_CRT,_LCD,_Plasma,_and_OLED_displays I'd suggest you refrain from using two periods to end a comment if the subject alludes.

    • @Zeltroix
      @Zeltroix 3 роки тому +20

      The oleophobic coating can easily be re-added to any device, it really is not an issue, plus doing this correctly with a larger polishing pad would give your screen a more even polish and you're only removing a microscopic layer of the screen which will not affect it's functions as long as all precautions are taken like sealing your earpiece, buttons, microphone holes etc.

    • @prckata
      @prckata 3 роки тому +7

      @@Zeltroix Agreee! @Cameron J Your arguments are pretty poor. You wont remove polarized layer by sanding with 1500 and or 3000 p sandpaper, nor with any fine polish wax. Oleo and hydrophobic layer can be re applayed.

      Once you have done this just put some klasse sealant glaze on it or ceramic coating. I used klasse sealant glaze (about 5 coats) and then finished with a quick application of megs ceramic detailer. The screen is smooth as hell and has no fingerprints 3 weeks later.
