First of all, thank you for sharing your journey through life with Tourette's. My daughter has been having a lot of suicidal thoughts because her tic attacks have been very violent lately. Therefore, I would appreciate knowing what you experienced in the psychiatric ward for suicide prevention. Again, thank you!

Thank you for sharing your story.
I've had Tourettes since I was 16(Well that's when I was first diagnosed)
And I've ran the gauntlet of medications,
Some have worked some have not.
But all in all,in my personal opinion, is that the all the medication I'm after taking over the years has made me worse instead of better, so I'm going down the natural remedy road, so lately I've been taking cbd isolate oil, and let me tell you, the difference is like night and day.
I never wanted to be on medications for my Tourettes,
Because like most(not all) but most doctors are taught "a patient cured,is a patient lost" I'm 41 now and ever since I started taking the cbd isolate, like I said, I can't get over the difference.
So any of you guys out there that don't want to be taking pills for rest of your life,
I'd strongly suggest you go down a road that involves a more natural or herbal remedie.
Even the foods you eat can have a huge impact on your tics.
For example, blue berries and different kinds of tea, work wonders for Tourettes.
I just encourage you to do your own research, and then come to a conclusion on what's best for you.
Anyway, that's just my thoughts on the subject. ✌

I was diagnosed when I was 6. Went through a dozen different medications and treatments. Most of them did nothing and had really bad side effects (paranoia, weight gain, anxiety, depression, etc.). In desperation, I even tried homeopathy and bioenergetics. Not sure if those did something but they definetly didn't have side effects... When I was 19, I finally found a doctor in Hannover, Germany that specializes in Tourette's. She put me on Abilify. It was the only thing that worked and had somewhat tolerable side effects - or the first few days of taking it I would feel lethargic and tired, but that would pass over time.
Now I'm 29, my tics are barely noticible, and I take Abilify only periodically, if they intensify.
Great advice about doing your own research. Read, study, learn, guys. If you have a condition you will definetly have more experience with it than any doctor out there, unless they are speciffically specialized in your condition. Even than, read about them, educate yourself about the medications they give you. The number of doctors that will just want to sell you something may not be huge, but with the wrong therapy, it doesn't take a lot to take your life from inconvenient to dreadfull.

I started Zoloft a month ish ago and 2 days ago my tics decreased like I took a shower and pet my cat I ATE A MEAL and I didn’t throw or spit or punch or scream at anything I think that means it’s working showering and eating are usually a nightmare but it’s been a great 2 days I’ve had so much energy I hope it stays like this but I was told my body’s probably gonna get used to it and it will have to be raised in dosage I love the feeling of not ticing constantly my tics are very tame now
