@@lloydirving6209 yeah it shouldn’t be too bad considering it won’t be “in-depth” as they’re not introductory games and more like a directors cut. That being said my goal is to address the many changes made between the two, so hopefully I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew lol
This was the FIRST Pokemon game that I completed the Pokedex in! Not the national dex, but the regional dex! I was so proud of myself :) I've been playing since the days of Red/Blue/Yellow so Alola will always hold a place in my heart :)

@@32rush79 Kind of funny though since SWSH was the complete opposite: an absolutely horrible hype cycle with most of the game kept a complete mystery until launch
@@Zistheone2 And frankly most of the content shown had been known even without those spoilers - other than maybe Eternatus and the oddball twins I don't think there were as much surprise left.
Sun and Moon is my favorite game in the series. the characters, story, region and pokemon are full of life in a special way. Lillie is the second-best written main character since N in my opinion, with her arc about learning to be independant and fight her own battles (literally when she decides to leave to be a trainer) being incredibly satisfying to watch. while Ghetsis is more intimidating and imposing, Lusamine is the most interesting and thought-provoking villain in the series due to her relationship to her family and backstory with Nihilego. Team skull is a laugh riot with a surprisingly serious amount of weight to them, and Guzma is a great boss with amazing stage presence. the supporting cast's interconnectivity (where most of the cast has a pre-established connection to each other) really breathes life into the region, coupled by the complex and interesting lore behind many of the region's traditions and pokemon (also: regional forms were a stroke of genius and my favorite modern addition to the franchise). I get that the tutorials are a problem with the pacing, though the cutscenes never bothered me because the story was that good. as far as the replayability is concerned, I played my copy of Sun three times; once as my initial run, once as a revisit, and once as a nuzlocke immediately after. tl:dr I love this game
Lusamine wasn't originally abusive towards Lillie and Gladion originally, she was a kind and caring mother who fully supported her children alongside her loving husband who created the Aether Paradise to help Pokemon, Mohn was also a brillant scientist who worked alongside Wicke and Faba to uncover the mysteries of Ultraspace and the strange Pokemon from there. It was during one of their experiments when an accident occurred causing Mohn to be sucked into an Ultra Wormhole to Ultra Space and the only thing that was left of the entire incident was Cosmog. At that moment Lusamine became obsessed with finding a way to open an Ultra Wormhole to find her missing husband and rescue him as well as get revenge on the Ultrabeast that dragged Mohn through the Ultra Wormhole which was Nihilego, it's the reason why Lusamine is trying to forcably use Cosmog to use it's powers to open an Ultra Wormhole and also why Lusamine wants Nihilego because she wants revenge. Unknowingly to Lusamine, Mohn managed to escape Ultraspace and ended up on an island close to the Alola region but without any memories of who he was so of course he had no desire to find his wife and children instead choosing to focus on PokeBeans and the islands he washed up on. Lusamine at this point grew more and more desprate and all the bad traits that were kept at bay because Mohn had been her only form of stability had now gone caused her to become controlling over her children to the point where it became abusive. Lusamine controlled how much, how often, and what types of foods her children were allowed to eat, she controlled their choice of clothing and their schedules making sure that both her children would be as perfect as they could be and she also allowed Faba to conduct those experiments that lead to the creation of 4 Type:Full who became Type:Null because they went beserek and could not control their abilities. When Gladion found out about these 4 Pokemon he tried to rescue all 4 of them but Lusamine not wanting her prized, although failed, experiments to escape and possibily lead to the Aether Foundation being investigated by police or interpool killed 3 of them and had them cryogenically frozen while Gladion only managing to help 1 of them escape alongside himself. Gladion then landed on Ula'Ula island near Po Town and begged that Guzma and Plumeria take him in and make him part of Team Skull to both hide from his mother and the foundation but also to gain strength because Gladion knew that if he went anywhere else he would be found and beaten by his mother and Type:Null would be killed and frozen forever. This defiant act by her own son caused Lusamine's already unstable mindset to become even more unstable and Lillie had to suffer from the entire brunt of Lusamine's madness which made Lillie feel like she was nothing on her own.
THIS right here is why Lusamine is my favorite villain in the series. there's so much to unpack about her history and her motivations that, even though the stakes of Sun and Moon aren't very high, she has a lasting impact on the plot and especially the characters in the story.
Yeah if anything the passion and ambition in this one is honestly too much for the development period expected. They’re not perfect games but they 100% have loads of love and ambition poured into them

I don’t have a problem with the cutscenes because we have 10 time more of gameplay than cutscenes compared to metal gear solid 4 who it had no joke, more cutscenes than gameplay.
Sun and moon are one of my favorite games besides gen 5. They have some sort of emersion feeling that the other games don't provide. I don't feel the same way with X/Y or even SWSH. I never got hyped as much as I did for Gen 5 and 7. Your SUMO streams were also how i found this channel, because i love seeing reactions to games to see how others feel about them. Thanks for this awesome review Stan!
Well I’m really appreciative that you’re still supporting me all of these years later! It’s very surreal to return back to Alola and that those games will turn 5 this year, but I agree that personally 5 and 7 have something special!

@@kerrywien6775 lol galar is the worst region, its a theme park ride and the wild area is literally just a wide route with nothing to do. sinnoh, hoenn and johto are objectively the best regions.
I personally felt that the eshop release of the Gen 1 games also helped with Sun & Moon's success since it gave a lot of the Kanto fans a chance to transfer their Gameboy teams to modern games for the first time in the franchise's history
I’ll say this Lillie feels like the true protagonist of Sun & Moon and that gave me the chance to witness an amazing story, yes it has problems but in the end when she leaves to Kanto I felt like I wanted to go with her, like I wanted to have more adventures with her in a familiar place. After Gen I and Gen II wanted a place to explore realistically and Alola felt that way, like going in a vacation and had all in my favor to look around and in the end of my journey it felt like a second home. Great review, I hope many people enjoyed the game and if someone want to visit Alola and Gen 7 soon don’t forget to try fully all the advantages we got with this games (like catching all the past starters, and I mean all from Gen 1 to 6 or having for the first time the ability to look for ourselves which and how many IV’s our Pokémon has in full detail)
I like how GameFreak didn’t make Lusamine into a super powered final boss (should have), but then turned around and did that exact thing in USUM with Necrozma
I always connect these games with my Middle School years since not only was going from Elementary to Junior High (which was a big jump) but Pokémon was always making a big change during this time.

Gen 7 to s the new gen 5, I will say that admitting it isn’t as much of a diamond In The rough that gen 5 was but I think people are much too hard on gen 7 games.
Generation 8 is actually the best Generation because You can skip the cutscenes and the Region is the most diverse with the wild area, mini islands and some optional routes. So Pokémon Sword and Shield are the best Pokémon Games.

Holy shit, I was looking back at Sun & Moon’s OST today and a random thought about whether you made a review on this gen popped in my head. Didn’t think much about it but an hour or so later you upload this video. Crazy.
19:50 I remember playing sun and moon for the first time and stayed up late to finish up the pokemon league. But then this scene and 20 minutes of credits later, I was extremely tired and being annoyed I couldn't save my game. Next day of school, I was a zombie.
I appreciate the Sun and Moon games more and more as new Pokemon games are released. These, IMO, are the peak of the Pokemon games and a great cumulation of the best parts and mechanics of the series.
sun and moon (specifically ultra) were honestly my favourite gen, i love the trial system. My only real gripes were yeah, some of the trainer battles were kind of easy while some of the trials were stupid tough, especially ultra necrozma
The third island is my personal favorite segment in the game. Manly cause I like the ascetic in the first town as well as the team skull hideout and I feel the island has the most various locations.
I’ve been a Pokémon fan since the beginning and I adore Sun and Moon. The region, the plot, the characters, the Pokémon. It’s such a cohesive, and charming game. Compare it to X and Y’s botched story and forgettable characters - and how Sword and Shield were clearly released unfinished

I have purchased both DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield, now galar is my favorite region period, galar is so diverse with many optional areas in the isle of armor and main game too, you can visit the isle of armor without being champion, and the isle of armor features more optional areas such as forests, caves, islands etc that you can traverse during the main game before becoming champion, and most the optional areas in crown tundra such as the ruins, dungeons, lakes etc can only be accessed after becoming champion and the crown tundra features more optional areas to explore in the crown tundra at the postgame to make galar an expansive region filled with exploration. Just discovered this review while playing Scarlet. Excellent and thorough review , my dude! You completely encapsulated my thoughts and feelings on this one. I loved Moon but I remembered a lot of the people hated the pacing. Alola had great art direction and bold takes on the franchise.
Replaying is one of the primary things I do with Pokémon games, and Alola's slow pace and aggressive handholding have therefore worn on me quite a bit...but I completely agree that there's a LOT of positive in Sun and Moon, and I really loved them first time around. I know even so few years after they first released, I'm already finding myself a little nostalgic for them, and they really do have a lot going for them. Appreciate the well-thought-out review, as always! 🍊
Man, I love Generation 7. The designs are fantastic, with the starters and the box legendaries having some of the strongest designs in the series. The story is super fleshed out, original and captivating, and the region of Alola is so beautiful and vibrant. Seriously, I think it's the only Pomemon game that actually pulled off the 3D graphics REALLY well. I'll always love Sun and Moon for how original they are and for everything they brought to the table. Great video, man.
Super late to the video but I adore this generation for being something new, but also being like this happy homecoming as well for me since I was always a casual fan throughout the years but this made me fall back in love within Pokémon hard and made me feel like a kid again
I never understood people's issue with the whole cutscene/dialogue thing. I mean, yeah, it's bad, but JRPGs are like that. Persona 5 is one of the best rpgs of all time and still take ages to let go of your hand.
@@jaretco6423I think it was alright tbh, it just made the game less linear. Instead of just going from place to place to defeat gym leaders beating a trial or kahuna would unlock side stuff you can do and actually gave you reasons to detour and not play in the same linear gameplay loop cause realistically the only detours people do in Pokémon is just catching Pokémon you like or over leveling rather than actually doing something other than battling and catching(or they would integrate these things into side stuff making it more fun to play)
They somewhat picked up the pace after their last outing (X & Y to Sun & Moon), then tripped halfway though (Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon), then later tripped again, this time spraining their ankle (Sword & Shield), got back up again (Isle of Armor), and finally reaching the finish line too late (Crown Tundra).
Still one of my favorite games! Way better than Gen 6 and 8… and up there with Gen 5 and 9! We miss your retrospectives! Hope you’re well and hope you keep on with the video series! 💫
The OST is my favourite thing about this region, and has my favourite singular track in the series. Its the only pokemon soundtrack I listen to outside of the game. Also, I won't hear a bad word said about my sleepy boi Komala.
this game is amazing on emulator, speed up and better 3d rendering totally changes the pace and visuals, makes this one of my favorite pokemon games ever.
Second favorite gen for me. If it had been the last game, I think I would’ve been okay with that. Seeing Red and Blue aged up and living their lives beyond the Kanto games felt like a perfect book end for someone that started on the original gameboy.
One thing that also really annoys me about this game is that the protagonist has no expressions for many story important cutscenes. For example, Lillie has this really emotional speech on Eggcecutor Island and during it your avatar is just in a constant smile, which is so awkward in the situation. Also everyone keeps telling you how great you are. Elio/Selene are the textbook definition of a Mary Sue character. I honestly would prefer playing as Hau, because at least he is a character and not a cardboard cutout.
Pokemon Sun and Moon were the games that made me realize that I have issues with this franchise. Mainly how insultingly handholdy the games have become. And how tedious it can be to try and play through. It's part of why I haven't finished USUM. But I will say, despite SM being the games that pulled the rose tinted glasses I had for this series. I love the story. For the most part it's really good, especially the stuff with Lillie. I absolutely love her character and how she developed, particularly when she finally stood up to her mom. Easily one of the most satisfying moments in a Pokemon story.
I haven't heard this opinion expressed often, and maybe my experience was unique and not indicative of everyone else's play through, I thought one of the best things about this series was that the Expshare was actually pretty well-balanced in S/M, unlike in the previous gen. I never really needed to grind, as I was never under-leveled, but I also never really felt over-leveled. Add to that the fact that the totem pokemon and the mons used by many important characters/bosses have very good IV spreads, and you've got a pretty decent difficulty ramp. If you don't grind your pokemon will likely be close in level to your opponents' and that means you have to use strategy and knowledge to beat tougher trainers.
Alola suffers from trying too much at once, and trying to be too different. When it works, it works magnificently! But when it stumbles, it's extremely noticeable. The long cutscenes are a big issue on a repeat playthrough, and the info dump is brain-melting. Yet, I love these games for their characters, the arcs, the near perfect difficulty (in the Ultra games) and definitely in the emotional moments. I'll be waiting to see the Gen 7 remakes in...about 15 years. Maybe a Legend: Necrozma, if it does very well (which I currently doubt due to current events)
This was such a good comprehensive not just take but almost like a guide to Sun and Moon. As always it's nice to see you go into the highs and lows of the game like regional variants and story! to uh... those cutscenes... 😂 Anyway thank you for this video it was truly stellar 🍊🍊🍊
Thanks as always for both the channel support but also personal positivity you bring to each and every stream/video Moon! I hope you’re enjoying Snap this weekend and thanks for being a real one and watching until the very end! 🍊
the no pokemon z thing and not enjoying sun and moon made fall out of pokemon in 2017. i wasnt even excited for usum but now usum are my favorite games
As someone who does kind of hold the opinion of modern pokemon just not being very good, I think sun and moon is the most underrated one out of all the games since the switch to 3d
Yet again an amazing review 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊. I didn't expect the Ultra games to get their own video. Time to jump on the hype train again. In your Let's go games review, I think you should definitely talk about how Lillie not being the main protagonist and continuing her story was the biggest missed opportunity.
Odd that you find Gen 7's pokémon to be a mixed bag, but consider Gen 6's pokémon to be near perfect. Personally I would say Alola has the best roster of any generation to date aside from Unova, while Kalos doesn't really have a single pokémon I would consider great, with most of them ranging from mediocre to downright awful.
Wowowowow how is Wishiwashi forgettable ?? It's one of the smartest design in pokemon ! It's a small fish with a lot of friends that can make a big fish together (and you can even see the original fish in the "eye" of the big form. It's among my favorite pokemons of Sun and Moon... and even in the franchise in general.
My second favorite gen. I love the story, the lore, the characters, the region and the Pokemon. Is very slow, but I also like that, I feel like more slow paced games let you have more time with your team and make stronger conncection to them. Maybe thata why gen 4 is my favorite lol.
Definitely worth replaying bro. I originally considered this Gen to be my second to least favorite, but every replaythrough I love it more to where it is now tied for third. One of the Gens most deserving of another look I’d argue. Just try to ignore RotomDex when you do. 😂
I really liked your analysis on the characters, story and themes! Sun and Moon are truly special in that regard. I also agree with your criticisms too although I think ultimately you were a bit too harsh with the final verdict. I’m also really happy you were able to understand and appreciate underrated characters like Hau. Gen 7 is top tier and years from now it will be remembered fondly by many more people
Great video and I totally agree. I think I even teared up once or twice, lol. 🍊🍊🍊 Despite all the b*tching I do about the recent direction of the franchise, Pokemon still holds a very special place in my heart and the time period before/during/around Sun and Moon's release were as magical and once-in-a-lifetime as you described them to be. That being said, it's such a shame how everything came together in the final package. Absolutely amazing games with a gripping narrative and truly memorable characters but held back by a collection of baffling decisions that brings the entire experience down several notches. Despite spending well over 100 hours in Sun and despite Moon being the only Pokemon game my partner actually admitted to liking in our 15 year relationship... I can't see myself ever replaying either one of them. Which is sad, because I feel like I've replayed the Gen 1 - 5 games an unreasonable amount of times at this point. One small thing this video made me realize is that I don't hate Hau and actually like him quite a bit. Sword/Shield's Hop is a blatant copy/paste of Hau in a lot of ways (even animations) and I think that retroactively made a lot of people dislike him, but now that I've had time to reflect and finished your video, I need to cut the guy some slack. He's a good guy and doesn't deserve the hate. 🍊🍊🍊
I’m from the US. The week pokemon go came out, I was in Canada. I was close enough to the border to catch some Pokémon but I was sad seeing all the people who use to bully me for liking Pokémon run around enjoying it themselves
I know I commented here already, but this time I want to make a more in-depth and substantial take here. I can agree with almost everything you said here, even down to its flaws, but at the end of the day, I'll always love SM and USUM for how satisfying they were to me both at the time and even now. Their flaws can make them discouraging to replay through after the first time, yes, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying them overall as an experience, even more so than Gen 5 which I started out with. My own views aside, I'd say your video affected me positively, because there are aspects to some of these characters, events, and mons that I didn't even notice when playing through either of the games before, and that kind of thought put into the games just shows that Ohmori and the rest of the team really poured their hearts into these games.
🍊 I dropped off of Pokémon after Crystal (mostly because my brothers took Emerald and I never saw it again after that and kinda just played crystal over and over and couldn't afford the newer handhelds after that.) I Only was reintroduced to Pokémon with Pokémon Sun because a friend gave me their old 3DS (after the Switch came out). It absolutely revived my love for the series, even with it's faults. Can't wait for the next reviews!
I have to admit, despite all the handholding in these games due to the story, I personally love these games so much. In my opinion, they have the best story of any Pokémon game and some really good little additions like regional variants, ride Pokémon, and the Island Challenge. These games changed up the formula a bit with the new Island Challenge which was actually quite refreshing from a series that's been the same since its creation. I never actually played these games until Christmas when my grandmother got Pokémon Sun for me. I remember playing the game for days until I beat them and then I realized that I had missed the demo like a year later. Then I realized that you could get an Ash-Greninja from the demos and I flipped. Ash-Greninja was my favorite thing from the Kalos anime so getting to use that in game was my favorite thing from gen 7.
I think that, if we had a gen 1 remake [that was actually set after gen 7] that had lilly as the main characters rival, that would be an amazing remake.
🍊 Well done! It's a shame with the newer gens how the narratives tend to focus moreso on the negatives than the positives (room dex was more of a friend for me, story and pacing was perfectly fine the first play through, Z moves were groovy and visually stunning). I also adored the new Pokémon and story! I love your thorough reviews and will be eager to see new ones that you may put up later on!
The game has a great story but too many cutscenes, Z-Moves were interesting imo but not as good as Megas but since we still got Megas it's not that bad. Alola's pokedex is easily my favorite and the region is arguably the most varied in the series (as well as the biggest). Regional forms were also an amazing addition that brought new life to forgotten pokemon. I also really liked the island trials, they were way more original than gyms even though they aren't perfect. I really love Sun and Moon despite it's flaws. Haven't played USUM yet but I really want to.
i love your review, super in epth and nuanced and well put! This was my very first Pokemon game and also forever my favourite, both of nostalgia and it being genuinely perfect for me x3 I loved the story and the pokemon, more than anything i loved being able to feed and pet the pokemon, i pet them soooo much it was one of my fave parts ever
The Island Totem bosses made the Z-crystals feel like Treasure Items in Zelda games. No longer was it, "oh cool, a shiny badge that looks cool" as nothing more than a stamp for a reward, this time it was useful utility you couldn't wait to try out.
I personally prefer galar over alola because galar is one of the best regions in Pokémon in My opinion, galar is diverse with the wild area, there’s fewer exploration in galar, but the wild area improved galar quite a bit, there’s some optional islands such as the islands in route 2 and route 9 also has optional islands and there’s an optional area inside slumbering weald and I get lost pretty easily in the slumbering weald during My play through of Pokémon Sword.
Great video. Glad I found your channel. Playing sun, I enjoyed the Hawaiian setting, and trials. But found the constant interruptions of the slow and dragging story not my thing. This game unfortunately sits pretty low on the series for me. Trying to complete them all
Sun and Moon were proper visual novels. Where they failed to be compelling game-wise, they made me really care about the Alola region and its characters in a way I haven't cared about another region before or since. They also came out in a really exciting time, the 20 year anniversary. I've had lots of legendary pokemon since Solgaleo but I'll never care for them like Nebby.
Maybe I need to replay gen 7. I've only played ultra moon and gave up after getting destroyed by the legendary pokemon. I had to look up an exploit just to beat him. I felt like the game was far too easy up until this moment, where the game was teaching me that I could walk through the game without any thought, and then this impossible challenge showed up. Because of the ease at which battling was presented, it made me explore the world much like I battled, in a zombie like state where I didn't really pay attention. After I go through my gen 5 replay, I'll probably come back to gen 7.
I got pokemon sun right when it released, and I remember I pretty much blazed through the whole game in just a few days. This led to me not remembering a whole lot about the game, and the only significant things I can remember were the constant handholding and cutscenes, which ultimately left me with a sour taste. I didn't play any of the post game (just shelved it after becoming champion) and I never did any side stuff or even really stopped to smell the flowers. This was also the first time that I planned out my whole team before starting my adventure, which in hindsight I think was a bad idea, and ultimately lessened my experience. Seeing your review really makes me want to revisit Alola and give it a fair shake; I think if I take my time with it and explore, experiment with different mons/teams, actually do sidequests and the post game stuff, maybe even do some shiny hunting (basically a complete 180 from my first playthrough), I think I'll have an infinitely better time with these games.
Po Town was originally owned and built by a wealthy man who was the Kahuna for Ula'Ula island before Nanu and was the man who took in Guzma after he ran away from his abusive father and uncaring mother and after he witnessed Kukui turning down the one thing he wanted in his entire life, becoming the bug type trial captain. This Kahuna is who influenced Guzma to create Team Skull in the first place to take in others like him that either failed their island challenges or were homeless or came from abusive or bad homes. However due to this wealthy man's greed he commited the biggest sin against Tapu Bulu the guardian deity of Ula'Ula island when he tried to build a mega mart on sacred ground. This angered Tapu Bulu into both destroying the mega mart leaving it abandoned and causing Po Town to forever be rained on which would slowly cause severe water damage to the town's buildings if this wealthy man didn't continue to pay for repairs. Instead of owning up to his duty as Kahuna and taking on the punishment from Tapu Bulu he ran and left the region leaving Guzma and the other residents of Po Town behind to save his own skin. This caused Guzma and the members of Team Skull to hate the entirety of Alola even more and take over Po Town for themselves, this was also roughly the time when Nanu joined the Alolan police force after retiring from the International Police that Looker is a part of because he was tired of seeing young people who had accidently travelled through Ultra Wormholes being used as bait to lure Ultrabeasts by the organization he worked for. Instead of a cushy job where Nanu could relax and do nothing he was assigned to watch over Po Town and make sure that Team Skull never got into too much trouble and was also named as the new Kahuna for Ula'Ula island, two jobs which Nanu hates. The only reason why Guzma ever started working with Lusamine was both because she was the only adult who he felt took him seriously and also because she was paying him good money which was being used to help feed and clothe the members of Team Skull so they didn't have to barely survive anymore but somewhat thrive in their shitty town.

I feel that out of all the Pokemon games, Sun and Moon are the most JRPG like, both for better and worse. As such, I disagree with you on the "Sun and Moon isn't really a game I'd recommend to non Pokemon fans, as I honestly would recommend sun and moon over any game for fans of storydriven JRPGs fans due to how structurally similar there is, and how well written the story is. I feel those fans can tolerate the length of the cutscenes andslow pace at times given the pace on some of the most beloved JRPGs (looking at you Xenoblade and Trails series)
I feel that Sun/Moon has really serious downfalls who ultimately overshadow the strenghts. There's a moment were a game becomes too lineal to the point of feeling a handhold, and S/M is just that, being too lineal of a game despite being in an archipelago you barely know. I LOVE the writting and most of the characters (Not you, Hau) and the Villains are amazing, but at the same time i feel it forgot some relevant characters and quite honestly they wrote too much instead of letting more things to subtext and optional for the ones interested on the plot. While i love the adjust for the meta, the removal of HMs making the most useful ones TMs and Alolan forms being a thing, Z-Moves are just BROKEN and they added a ton of powercreep, as well as incineroar king of VGC and specially the Kanto pandering became just really obnoxious (WHY CHARIZARD INSTEAD OF DRIFBLIM?!). Finally, altough that's more noticed on the latter two games, I don't like pokemon Go, specially the effect it had on Let's Go and Sword/Shield, as well as in the Anime. I never particularly cared about catching things i would never use, but rather i liked pokemon because it was an RPG with customizable team members. Overall my point is still really clear: Omega Ruby/Alpha Zaphire are the only good 3D main pokemon games, with the others being just ok, mediocre or plain out bad. This game has neat ideas but overall is just as underwhelming as X/Y. Even though I'm the kind of guy who can tolerate a slow, more deep story, story alone cannot carry a videoGAME. I consider gen 5 the best gen overall (Not by a lot though) but that's because they did not sacrifice exploration entirely while giving more narrative to characters; you're never FORCED to follow the story path if you wanted to see a new area.
This is the game that killed the Pokemon games for me. The slow pace stopped me from enjoying myself for too long in one go, and Sword/Shield looked like too much of more of the same that I just didn't bother.
This game's cutscenes and pacing completely kill its replayability for me. I cannot believe just how many times your character is interrupted into forced, unskippable cutscenes - as if all the random battles and forced trainer battles weren't enough. It's just a slog to go through. I'm so glad Gen 8 and 9 got rid of a lot of this tedious crap. The story was decent in Sun and Moon the first time, but I never want to play it again. I could not even finish USUM either. I tried multiple times but I just want to skip everything and it won't let me.
Honestly stuff like Pokemon Refresh wasn't that sluggish. Island Scan was still pretty fun to do and better then just trading for a foreign Pokémon or transferring one if you ask me. Poke Pelago is good too.
Thanks for everyone’s patience on this one. Decided to do Ultra SuMo separately so look forward to that at the end of the month! In the meantime I might do something for New Pokémon Snap so if that interests you at all then make sure you’re subbed and have notifications turned on!

This Gen probably had one of the most hype cycles since we had 2 years from ORAS to this and it was so much fun speculating for it in the meantime
its just a shame the marketing campaign spoiled 95% of the game lol

Same, bro, same. Not to mention the various throwbacks to other gens in the games, also the inclusion of the National Dex.
This and gen one for me.
Compared to gen 5, heck nah sun and moon are good
Lusamine wasn't originally abusive towards Lillie and Gladion originally, she was a kind and caring mother who fully supported her children alongside her loving husband who created the Aether Paradise to help Pokemon, Mohn was also a brillant scientist who worked alongside Wicke and Faba to uncover the mysteries of Ultraspace and the strange Pokemon from there.
You went way too deep into these below average ass games😂

I personally felt that the eshop release of the Gen 1 games also helped with Sun & Moon's success since it gave a lot of the Kanto fans a chance to transfer their Gameboy teams to modern games for the first time in the franchise's history
Right 😊👍
I’ll say this Lillie feels like the true protagonist of Sun & Moon and that gave me the chance to witness an amazing story, yes it has problems but in the end when she leaves to Kanto I felt like I wanted to go with her, like I wanted to have more adventures with her in a familiar place.
I know its flaws but Gen7 is one I loved. It felt really fresh all around.
I like how GameFreak didn’t make Lusamine into a super powered final boss (should have), but then turned around and did that exact thing in USUM with Necrozma
Hau was so much better in USUM. And watching him ascend the steps of the elite 4 to face my character was *chefs kiss* magnificent.

This is a really incredible analysis. I'm glad someone else was able to talk about what makes the Sun and Moon story truly amazing.
Just discovered this review while playing Scarlet. Excellent and thorough review , my dude! You completely encapsulated my thoughts and feelings on this one. I loved Moon but I remembered a lot of the people hated the pacing. Alola had great art direction and bold takes on the franchise.
Great review! The slow start to Sun and Moon is what kills the replayability for me. 🍊

Gen 7 is going to age like a fine wine IMO. Also you mention a tattoo... i also want to get a Pokemon tattoo, a tiny one, any suggestions,

Gen 7 is top tier and years from now it will be remembered fondly by many more people
Definitely and might even dethrone Sinnoh's Pokemon Platinum considering it's a bit overrated when ppl compare it to USUM
I thought it was an fine gen. Better than Gen. 6 IMO. But I know some might disagree. But I don't care. Also, hi Segun.
USUM versions sure but regular SM is heavily held back by it's lack of replay value...
@@V-Jes USUM has a worse story
@@someguy3263 and? It's a mainline Pokémon game.
Oh me oh my, how the time does fly. Can't wait to watch this review, my guy!
Oh man doing this review made me feel so old lmao. Can’t believe it’s almost been 5 years since these games released haha
@@RandomTens We are oldies but goldies, Stan. We both age like fine wine!
I had an Alolan Persian I nicknamed Bailey after my roommate's Russian blue cat: cool gray fur, permanent grump smile, big puff head.
Great video and I totally agree. I think I even teared up once or twice, lol. 🍊🍊🍊
Despite all the b*tching I do about the recent direction of the franchise, Pokemon still holds a very special place in my heart and the time period before/during/around Sun and Moon's release were as magical and once-in-a-lifetime as you described them to be.
🍊🍊🍊
Legit the “the story” title card played in sync to picking up an item in twist mountain lol
I remember hating sun and moon. But ultra sun is arguably in my top 3 pokemon games lol
These games are the reason I got back into Pokémon. So I definitely gotta thank them for that.
Honestly it is my 3rd favorite Pokémon game. I love how unique and fun they were. Also I loved Lillie and all of the captains.
I love gen 7!! They're a bit lengthy but I love the story.

Such a fantasic video! Agreed and had the same opinions on most things. Looking forward to the Sword and Shield In Depth Review.
This was my very first Pokemon game and also forever my favourite, both of nostalgia and it being genuinely perfect for me x3 I loved the story and the pokemon, more than anything i loved being able to feed and pet the pokemon, i pet them soooo much it was one of my fave parts ever
pokemon sun and moon and pokemon go, good times, good times.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees Hau as one of the greater characters in the series.
The Island Totem bosses made the Z-crystals feel like Treasure Items in Zelda games. No longer was it, "oh cool, a shiny badge that looks cool" as nothing more than a stamp for a reward, this time it was useful utility you couldn't wait to try out.
Alola is one of my favorite gen and regions 💚
Same, it’s my second favorite Region, but Generation 8 is the best Generation.
@@kerrywien6775 galar is not diverse at all are you on drugs??
Nice fanfic
This was an amazing review, I was really looking forward to this and you definitely didn’t disappoint!
When will You review Pokémon Sword and Shield ? Because Pokémon Sword and Shield is currently one of My all time favorite Games and the region is really good and diverse with the wild area, some explorable mini islands, routes and most of the optional areas in the wild area. So please review Pokémon Sword and Shield asap.
Ah, yes boys. Good ol' Staniel Tens back with fresh content.
Thought gen 7 was bad, then sword and shield came along and made me miss gen 7
Hopefully whenever gen 9 drops it doesn’t make you miss gen 8!
@@RandomTens I’m still going to love Pokémon Sword and Shield because They’re great Games

I don't think Gen. 7 is bad. It has problems. I know. But it's at least 7/10 good IMO.
