I just wanted to drop a line to say thank you for this lovely tutorial!! I am getting ready to quilt a 62" x 70" quilt on my domestic machine to save some money. I am not very good at with free motion quilting, as hard as I've tried and so I lean towards the straight lines!! And this was a wonderful find!! And not to mention that "quilting arm" that you showcased...OMG I had no idea what that little thingy was for all this time, what a game changer that is going to be for me!! So thanks again for this tutorial!! Happy Quilting!!
Yes, great tutorial. I never think to use the bar! I just draw lines forever, then stitch. Lol. Thanks so much for the tips. Have a wonderful week. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
Great tutorial. I"ve been trying to do cross hatching without success on a rectangle panel now I feel that I understand how to do it and am sure it will be successful. Thanks so much for your clear explanations and demonstration.
Thanks Sherry for showing us this, I had seen something like this before but they went so fast it did not make since. Now watching you, it makes since 🙂 hope you have a great day!
I love cross hatch quilting and the look and texture it provides. I have done this on several small quilts. Sherri, I appreciate the tips you provided - very helpful!
I LOVE this video!! I’m a visual learner and I enjoy tutorials done at the machine. I’ve often wondered why you did not do videos like this. I’ve watched your tutorial videos and your voice is so calming when you’re giving instructions on how to do something and the visual really helps me. Please do more of these. Thanks for sharing❤️
I have been quilting by using 3/4" lines for ByAnnie Bags. I want to use your cross hatch method on my next project. I appreciate your ideas. It looks really easy.
Thank you, Sherri, for the great tutorial on quilting on our home sewing machines. It is so helpful to have a few ways to be able to quilt our own quilts from start to finish!! 😍
Loved the video. If you were going to do a cross hatch stitch on a throw quilt, how far would you space out your stitches to make it snuggly and not to stiff?
What a perfectly timed tutorial for me in my beginning quilting journey. One question that I have…Do you always machine quilt with the backing on top? Thanks for a great channel
Sherri, thank you for the detailed and visual tutorial! Very helpful. A couple questions. You demonstrated placing the bar in your machine and fixing it to the 1" mark. I didn't see you tighten anything. Will it stay in place? Also, I like your machine. Can you tell me what machine you have? Thanks so much ❣
Sometimes, if your thread tension gets whacked, it can leave thread loops, even tiny ones, showing on the underside. If this is bad, you’d want to pick out the stitching and re-do it. But if it’s just a little, you might want to leave it, if it’s on the back... not so much on the front.
Perfect timing - ready to quilt a 10’ runner tomorrow. Is there a reason to use the 45 degree line on the edge for the second direction rather than the inch markings on the first set of quilting lines?
This video is SO helpful thank you very much Sherri. How far apart do you think would be the best for the lines if you are doing a lap size quilt, I love the look of this quilting !
My question is after you’ve stitched on the blue side you turn it over and stitch on the back side? I’m new to quilting and would like to know what you mean here. Thanks for the video , your a great teacher!
When you cross hatch quilt, do you always stitch on the back instead of the front? When you started this video you mentioned that the blue fabric was the back. Is it because you used white chalk and it would not have shown up on the front? Do you get better results by stitching on the back? I’m intrigued by this. Thx.
Sherri, thanks for this great video! It answered so many questions for me. One question: did you drop the feed dogs while doing the cross hatch quilting? Thanks.
my machine has a walking foot but when it is attached I can't use the seam guide bar. I need to figure out a different way to have a guide bar attached to the machine, taped on the front and hanging down maybe (?)
I had this issue too until I realized there was a hole in the back of my walking foot for the seam guide. Does your walking foot have a small hole in the back of it?
Please, please, please use close ups when pointing to fine details you want us to see such as the length of the stitch on the quilt of the table runner. You can talk about it but if we can’t see it, it doesn’t help us.

Yes, great tutorial. I never think to use the bar! I just draw lines forever, then stitch. Lol. Thanks so much for the tips. Have a wonderful week. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
I've seen people use masking tape and stitch along the edge.
Whenever I see that “A Quilting Life” has a new video, I stop what I’m doing to watch... and a tutorial? Oh! GOODIE! 🤗
Thank you Sherri!
🧵✂️ I enjoy doing my own quilting on small projects and many times I use stencils too. 😊
Very clear and concise instructions. Thank you so much.
I have never had this explained so well. Thank you.

I very much enjoyed today’s video, thank you!
I really enjoy tutorials done at the machine like today's tutorial.
Thanks Sherry for showing us this, I had seen something like this before but they went so fast it did not make since. Now watching you, it makes since 🙂 hope you have a great day!
Thanks for sharing, a easy method is always welcoming. 👍❤️😊
Thanks for giving me the courage to do this!

I just purchased a quilting guide and this video helped me get started. Thank you!
Very clear instructions which I love as a beginner quilter. Thank you!
Thank you for this demo. It is reassuring to see this type of demo.
Seeing the tools (like the chalk and the bar) used in the context of their intended purpose is super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much!! This was so helpful and I really appreciate it.
One thing I must say is that my walking foot guide moves. So I have to recheck the width often. If I don't the line distance between gets all wonky!
This is great! Thx you so much. I knew basically how to do it, but watching you makes it so much easier! Can't wait to try it! Thx!
Hi Sherri... thanks for this tutorial... I have used a reshaped paperclip taped to my walking foot or shank if no walking foot available! :)
Wonderful tutorial.
Great demo. I'm going to give it a try.
Great information. Billy you did wonderful with the video!
I love your channel.
Love this tutorial!!! I have a walking foot for my machine with the bar, but really wasn’t sure how to use it.

Love your summer blouse, you look very nice...
That was really helpful! I have wanted to do the cross hatch quilting but was afraid my lines would go wonky. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you for showing us the machine work! It’s always so helpful to see these tutorials in action.
Thank you I am getting ready to quilt my first quilt and have been holding off this will help
Thank you. Your instructions are very clear. ❤
Thanks for sharing Sherri! I didn't know about the 3.5 - 4 stitch length to make it more like hand stitching!
Excellent, and very helpful, demonstration, Sherri. Thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial sherrie👍👏🌷
Thank you Sherri for doing this tutorial I was marking All the lines now I don't have to, thank you again.
I’m enjoying your tutorials!!!
Thanks so much Sherri!!! This is such a helpful tutorial!! I'm anxious to try the technique on my tablerunners and other small projects!!
I have been quilting by using 3/4" lines for ByAnnie Bags. I want to use your cross hatch method on my next project. I appreciate your ideas. It looks really easy.
Good to know and I’ll be trying crosshatch quilting! Thank you! ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing

Thanks! I would love more tutorials on free motion quilting at home.
Great tutorial and explanation. A lovely quilt too! Thanks for posting!
This was such a useful tutorial. Just what I needed for a project I’m quilting at home. Thank you!
Thank you. Sherri, for the wonderful tutorial! Just getting ready to machine quilt something small and this was so very helpful!
Sheri: awesome tutorial, and the questions in the comments are great. Thank you very much for your precise expertise!!! ❤️😀
Thank you for the tutorial, for small projects this would be great! Love the visual!
Great. Tutorial!!! I'll have to try😍😍

Wonderful tips! Thank you!
Hi. Thank you for this video. What if I am quilting a rectangle? Do I still go with the diagonal, or do I stitch vertically/horizontally?
What a perfectly timed tutorial for me in my beginning quilting journey. One question that I have…Do you always machine quilt with the backing on top? Thanks for a great channel
Great tips! Thank you for sharing!

I didn't see you tighten anything. Will it stay in place? Also, I like your machine. Can you tell me what machine you have? Thanks so much ❣
I think I can do this! Does it matter if you start on the back or front of the quilted piece. Thank you for this wonderful video!
Sometimes, if your thread tension gets whacked, it can leave thread loops, even tiny ones, showing on the underside. If this is bad, you’d want to pick out the stitching and re-do it. But if it’s just a little, you might want to leave it, if it’s on the back... not so much on the front.
Great video. When quilting a larger quilt, is it wiser to turn the quilt and sew in the other direction regularly? Thank you.
This is awesome for place mates and quick baby quilts too isn’t it?
Perfect timing - ready to quilt a 10’ runner tomorrow. Is there a reason to use the 45 degree line on the edge for the second direction rather than the inch markings on the first set of quilting lines?

Sherri, what type of batting are you using here. It seems thinner than I have seen before.
Thanks for the video, Sherri! Your tutorials are always so precise. What color chalk do you use most often? (I noticed they sell white, pink, blue)
Love your videos! I am new to quilting. Do you quilt both sides?
When you cross hatch quilt, do you always stitch on the back instead of the front? When you started this video you mentioned that the blue fabric was the back. Where did you get the decals for your sewing machine?
Great tutorial.
May I please ask where you got the stickers for your machine ? Thank you. ☺
I was noticing that cuteness😝❤️😀

Just a note. This video isn't pinning on Pinterest. I don't know why. But I thought I would inform you. 😁

I have just masking tape and walking foot with good success.
I don't like that bar. If you accindentally move it, everything goes wonky. I'd rather mark it all.
