What they discovered: Boys envision themselves as the characters the toys represent. If its Spiderman, they pretend to be Spiderman and the entertainment consists of things that Spiderman would do, such as fight villians. Girls repurpose toys to fit their own entertainment goals. If the toy is Spiderman, they change the character and force them to do things the character wouldn't normally do. I thought this was very insightful considering the current state of our entertainment industry.

It was a psychological study about HOW girls and boys play with toys differently. Boys play with toys as if in first person, while girls play with toys as if in third person. One plays the role, the other changes the roles.

Tiny Tina was literally a child in BL2 and she's mentally damaged because the only evidence she had that her parents were still alive was audio recordings of her father being tortured and her mother getting r***d by a guy called Fleshstick. I know it's been a decade but I won't spoil it further. People don't just love her because she's funny, her dissociation from reality is her way of coping with one of the most traumatic origin stories in Borderlands and slowly uncovering it was heartbreaking. The voice acting was so good that just remembering how I felt the first time I heard the recordings casually playing in the background whilst shooting psychos and learning the truth about her family still hurts. It's almost as much of a kick in the pants as Angel Beats.
It is nowhere near the level of gut punch as Angel Beats. It was upsetting though but whoever was responsible for that writing is either gone or their quality control is.
No amount of "backstory" could make me like Tiny Tina. She was infuriating, unfunny, cringe, reddit tier slop. You can't just make a painful character that everyone hates and then retcon that by saying "Oh no that's intentional!! She's "troubled"." That's just shockingly bad writing.

Moxxie in the game is making an effort to appear young, but evidence of her real age is that she's the mother of two other adult characters in the game (Scooter and Ellie). I think Gina Gershon is an okay choice, and would have been great cast as Moxxie back when she was in her late thirties. But Carla Gugino (back when she was the mom in Spy Kids) would have been the perfect Moxxie.

@@peartry Most of my game series made it to the 3rd game before going off the rails, like Gears of War and Mass Effect. But it seems Borderlands exceeded expectations by doing it earlier. People argue if Dragon Age wet the bed at 2 or at 3. I liked DA 2 . So DA and Borderlands have the 3rd gaming sucking in common.
Gotta be honest, my expectations were so low I actually thought the cast reveal was ok... But now, seeing "Lilith" in other scenes I totally agree with Melonie. And I had no idea Jamie Lee Curtis was supposed to be Tannis, I thought it was a completely new character. Terribly miscast.
Jamie Lee Curtis can play crazy pretty well, and would have been a good actress for Tannis, back in the 1980's, say, when Trading Places came out. Now she's waaay too old. All I can think is that this movie takes place thirty years after the events of the game, and Kevin Hart is playing a diminutive clone of the original Roland.

What a ridiculous casting for multiple people. Lilith should be in her 20s or maybe like early 30s I feel like. And even Tanis I feel like was only in her 30s or 40s. This is another example of some studio getting their hands on a franchise that they have no connection to whatsoever. My take on why they did this is because they want to appeal to the broader audience of movie goers. Older folks and many others probably don't know what the fuck a Borderlands is but they most certainly know who Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and Kevin Heart are. People are probably not likely to watch a movie based on a game they've never played or even heard of but its the big name actors that are more than likely to draw the outsiders in. This is far from reassuring however because it really seems like they are counting on these actors to bring in an audience rather than... you know... good and faithful story telling... If you ask me Making a Borderlands movie live action is a mistake, especially because it's iconic art style is a big appeal of the games.
This movie just needs Ben Stiller to come out as Handsome Jack and say "You will go to sleep, or I will put you to sleep." If I was casting, I would have picked Dove Cameron for Lilith, Lizzy Caplan for Tannis, Idris Elba for Roland, Megan Fox for Moxxi, and some child star as Tina. Jack Black is always a win.
Gina Gershon is playing Mad Moxxi, too bad this movie wasn't coming out 30 years ago though as she is 61 now and will be 62 by the film release. They better start filming the sequel today or else their entire cast is going to need special permission to leave their retirement residence and a doctor's note to work a full day.

Tiny Tina was literally a child in BL2 and she's mentally damaged because the only evidence she had that her parents were still alive was audio recordings of her father being tortured and her mother getting r***d by a guy called Fleshstick.
I know it's been a decade but I won't spoil it further.
People don't just love her because she's funny, her dissociation from reality is her way of coping with one of the most traumatic origin stories in Borderlands and slowly uncovering it was heartbreaking.
The voice acting was so good that just remembering how I felt the first time I heard the recordings casually playing in the background whilst shooting psychos and learning the truth about her family still hurts.
It's almost as much of a kick in the pants as Angel Beats.
It is nowhere near the level of gut punch as Angel Beats. It was upsetting though but whoever was responsible for that writing is either gone or their quality control is.
No amount of "backstory" could make me like Tiny Tina. She was infuriating, unfunny, cringe, reddit tier slop. You can't just make a painful character that everyone hates and then retcon that by saying "Oh no that's intentional!! She's "troubled"."
That's just shockingly bad writing.

Moxxie in the game is making an effort to appear young, but evidence of her real age is that she's the mother of two other adult characters in the game (Scooter and Ellie). I think Gina Gershon is an okay choice, and would have been great cast as Moxxie back when she was in her late thirties. But Carla Gugino (back when she was the mom in Spy Kids) would have been the perfect Moxxie.

Gotta be honest, my expectations were so low I actually thought the cast reveal was ok... But now, seeing "Lilith" in other scenes I totally agree with Melonie. And I had no idea Jamie Lee Curtis was supposed to be Tannis, I thought it was a completely new character. Terribly miscast.
Jamie Lee Curtis can play crazy pretty well, and would have been a good actress for Tannis, back in the 1980's, say, when Trading Places came out. Now she's waaay too old. All I can think is that this movie takes place thirty years after the events of the game, and Kevin Hart is playing a diminutive clone of the original Roland.
I feel like they cast Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis just to make the casting of nana Blanchette as Lilith look less absurd by comparison. 😆

What a ridiculous casting for multiple people. Lilith should be in her 20s or maybe like early 30s I feel like. And even Tanis I feel like was only in her 30s or 40s. This is another example of some studio getting their hands on a franchise that they have no connection to whatsoever. A Borderlands movie should be made by people who love the franchise and have experience with the lore inside and out. This is the fatal flaw in all video game movies that set them up for failure. They never respect the lore.

My take on why they did this is because they want to appeal to the broader audience of movie goers.
Older folks and many others probably don't know what the fuck a Borderlands is but they most certainly know who Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and Kevin Heart are.
People are probably not likely to watch a movie based on a game they've never played or even heard of but its the big name actors that are more than likely to draw the outsiders in.
This is far from reassuring however because it really seems like they are counting on these actors to bring in an audience rather than... you know... good and faithful story telling...
If you ask me Making a Borderlands movie live action is a mistake, especially because it's iconic art style is a big appeal of the games.
This movie just needs Ben Stiller to come out as Handsome Jack and say "You will go to sleep, or I will put you to sleep." If I was casting, I would have picked Dove Cameron for Lilith, Lizzy Caplan for Tannis, Idris Elba for Roland, Megan Fox for Moxxi, and some child star as Tina. Jack Black is always a win.
