I just know YT has new button called stable volume. Unfortunately, this button makes volume up and down automatically during hi gain test. This is very annoying. Everyone must disable this button for Mike's pickup comparison video.
Both are great pickups, but the Custom 5 SH-14 is bigger sounding than the Custom SH-5. It has an overall better balance. The Custom Custom SH-11 is better if you want a loser low end with more shimmery chords and a sweeter high end. I'd recommend the SH-11 for session players because it can mix pretty well with single coils or a Jazz, 59 or A2 Pro. The SH-5 and SH-14 are better for hard rock and metal although the SH-11 can still hold its own. It gets a great VH tone. Akira from Loudness used the SH-11 for years in the interim between the Custom and Custom 5 which he now uses.
mucho tiempo busque esta comparativa, entre estas dos pastillas, que bueno que se dio la oportunidad que tu la hicieras mike, gracias for a long time I was looking for this video comparison between two this pickups, thanks for make it possible mike custom 5 (sh-14) alnico 5 magnet, high gain pickup custom (sh-5) little ceramica magnet medium output the eq is very similar for both pickups, the magnets makes the difference
I am trying to decide between the SH-5, SH-6, and SH-14. I came to this video because I thought the 5 and 14 sounded similar, sure enough they do. It almost just seems to me that the only difference is the type of magnet. The SH-5 being Ceramic, and the SH-14 being the Alnico 5. Same DCR of 14.1k. With that being said, the SH-5 should be a hotter pickup, which is what I'm looking for. The SH-6(Duncan Distortion, ceramic) and SH-4(JB, Alnico 5) Both at 16.6k and sound very close, but the highs are just a little too soft for me for a metal genre sound. But those two are basically the same winding with different magnets, just like the two in this video.

The EQ is strikingly similar, both mid-scooped, the SH-5 is a little more pristine on clean.

Prefer the custom, not do bright.
