I've watched several hours of dyeing instructional videos and this is by far one of the most concise and well put together videos! Keep up the Great content!
Omgoodness! I can't believe that I finally found this technique on video. Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this. This will be like wearing Monet artwork ❤
These are beautiful, some of the prettiest shirts I’ve seen. I’ve just set a t-shirt and a kaftan up, if mine turn out half as good as these I’ll be very happy, thank you for sharing this innovative technique. It’s like deep scrunch combined with mini-inclines, never seen it before 😍
LOVED this video! So, so helpful. I loved that you covered all the steps and explained the process while showing the end result. I feel confident in selecting colors and was blown away by the final result. Thank you so much.
Wow!! Thank you so much for sharing. I seen someone on reddit explaining how to use the foil to create this, but I’m more of a visual person. So this helped big time! The shirts came out beautiful.
Just want to add, I’ve just used your technique on curtains and am blown away by the fabulousness! I used Deep Space and Shiitake Mushroom, jam jars and dryer balls instead of foil and a TON of ice! Love this so much 😍
Really nice video, thanks for sharing! I love how you use the Rubbermaid bin with baskets. I have a ton of the bins laying around my garage. now I just need some baskets! Beautiful shirts too btw!
Wow! So beautiful!!! Thank you for teaching us how to do this dye technique! The results are stunning! I am subscribing to your channel and look forward to seeing your other videos!♥️
I agree with most of the comments here. Your video is very informative and the results are AMAZING. By far the best ice tie dyed shirts I've seen. I was skeptical at first and I thought these must be digitally printed.
Holy heck they look incredible!! I've never seen aluminium used with tie dye before. I felt kinda bad about the idea of using it with the waste, but turns out you can put it in the recycling bin, at least in (so called) Australia.
Blue Dawn dishwashing detergent works just as well as the specialty detergent and is a lot cheaper! I've been using it for about 15 years and there is very little fading on the t-shirts that I did then.
I'd like to try this - 2 questions #1after the soak in DAWN, you wash in your washing machine - will the dye that came out in washing effect your next load of personal laundry- will the dye end up on your next load?? #2 do you or can you heat (iron) set the color before washing?? Thanks !!!
Hi, okay so #1 the dawn and hot water soak will really help draw a lot of the excess/leftover dye out of the shirts. I have never had a problem with dye residue after this, during the machine washing step. The soap I recommend is a high sud product so that (paired with a high heat wash setting) will do a good job of rinsing the remaining dye out. It wouldn't hurt to do two hour water dawn soaks if your concerned I haven't tried the heat iron method so I'm not sure if that would work Have fun and good luck!
All the dyes I use are from Dharma trading company. They are a fantastic company but only sell through their website. Their link in in the description, I highly recommend them :)
Love your videos ! I am thinking about making some for my business. My question is , should I leave the shirts outside for 20 hours even though the temperature where I live ( Coachella) gets to 115 on a regular day?
Great question! First, yes you definitely want to let the dye sit for 20 hours. This will set the dye enduring your colors stay vibrant and won't fade over time. In 115 degree weather the ice might melt very quickly though.. it may change the pattern/effect but I would give it a shot! If you're not happy with how it looks try and let it set in a color temperature. Have fun and good luck!
Taylor sheets are so big! I would be lying if I said I've never thought about dying them.. but they're just too big :/ unfortunately I live in a tiny apartment. I will do pillow cases soon though :)
Wow!!! I'm SO impressed I went straight to dharma trading to buy the colors to do this myself! But hey, you say you used shitake, is that the same as shitake mushroom? Because that's the only color I see that says shitake... Thanks so much for sharing!
I would recommend turning it inside out but you totally don't have to. It will just help prevent small specs of powder from showing up on the finished side
I'm just hearing about salt ice! I have to look into it thanks for the tip:) Dharma trading company dyes are super rich and vibrant and I'm in love with them but I would love to know any tricks on colorlasting!
@@icetries6017 idk.thats what I do. Before I wash a new colourful piece of clothing, I soak it in salt water overnight. It supposedly helps the dye set.
Amazon! But they're getting a little rusty... Looking for a stainless steel version I can endorse more confidently. If you search collapsible wire storage basket you'll find a big variety :)
@@chadchilders3954 So I gave up my stainless steel search.. I think even a stainless steel product, if it's low cost and from Amazon, will eventually rust. I have been looking into collapsible plastic crates on Amazon which I think will be a good alternative. I haven't bought them yet but here's what I found so far www.amazon.com/dp/B093325L9C/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_21YQXDH7S00KD0FZ7WKK www.amazon.com/dp/B015PIRFIG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_3YD4GD6AXS65EQ5C3Q36?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Planning to buy these soon to test then out. Hopefully they'll end up in the next video!
I’m hanging on this with bated breath. A setup this clean with a lid that closes would be *chef’s kiss*. Even if the plastic ones didn’t work out, I’d settle for the metal ones you’re using in the video. I have some cooling racks, but they won’t do as well at holding the ice on top of my fabric.
This the first time I’ve seen putting the dye on the shirt first then the ice in top instead of covering the fabric with ice then the dye on top of the ice. I don’t know which method to try next 😬
I'm confused on the total amount of powder you used for the short sleeve. Early in the video you mention 3/4 TB total but later, when overdying, you mention 3/4 tsp. Is it .75 TB total with .75 tsp over and 1.5 tsp under? [ps trying this soon!]

Too bad the post-wash couldn't be as vibrant as the colours in pre-wash. Those were incredible. Maybe a royal blue would make for a bolder result than strong navy.
Yes exactly! I always have this feeling when I put it in the wash. You have to almost over dye and expect things to fade quite a bit in that first wash... Royal blue might be a nice option though!
By far the best ice dye shirts I’ve seen! Can’t wait to learn more

The patterning on these is so crisp and clear, love it! Thanks for the detailed tute.
Very interesting technique! Never saw ice used for this before. Thanks!
Well, huh! i’ve never seen the bit with foil balls before, but that makes perfect sense. I guess I know what I’m going to try the next time I ice dye.
I did mine like u said and made a rainbow,it came out awesome
Love the outcome

you should be able to just rinse the dye off the crumpled up aluminum balls and just re use them in the next shirt you dye
Thank you for a wonderful and thorough tutorial! I can’t wait to try this!

This is awesome
How much soda ash for a large hoodie or sweater? I have heard only tablespoon, is there a better measurement?
Btw, super informative video!
Hey! So yeah, the soda ash soak is a 1 cup of soda ash added to 1 gallon of warm water. That should be plenty to soak a sweatshirt
Amazing tutorial
That is soooo pretty 😍
What is the dye that is being used?
how long did you soak the tshirts in soda ash?
20 minutes

If I'm doing a thick heavy hoodie, do I still need to turn it inside out?
