I was a wedding and portrait photographer in from the 1980s to early 2000s. I just recently got back into photography as just a hobby now instead of a side job. In the early 2000s I had my Nikon D1X, D100, and Fujifilm S3 Pro. All of them were 5-6 megapixel cameras. The D1X quit working YEARS ago but the other two still work with a few minor issues. When I decided to get back into photography I traded all of my film gear (35 to 4x5) to KEH for newer gear (Nikon DSLRs). There have been so many changes in the fifteen years I was away! I recently picked up a Fujifilm X-T2 and I'm adapting some of my Nikon vintage glass to it. I'm having a great time learning and re-learning! :)

Thank you , it’s a hobby in retirement for me , gets me out and into the world. I love the digital started out with film cannon ae1 , I think it was the go to back in the day. But any ways digital Nikon Z6ii now ..being on fixed income it’s expensive out there . I like the thought of KEH ty leigh. 😊

Very interesting video. I enjoyed very much. I was surprised you mentioned your age. I would have guessed 5 to 7 years younger!!😊

My wife and I went against the grain (so to speak), leaving mirrorless and going to Nikon DSLRs (D850). The EVF is all well and good, but the joy of shooting a DSLR and using the art of pre-visualization without relying on the EVF is simply more rewarding. We do some paid photography, but that’s not our main thing. The battery life for a wedding is amazing,..etc. But you said it: everyone has options in this market, and that’s great.

The biggest change for me was going from DSLR to a mirrorless camera. I really like being able to see your image (EVF) before you snap the photo. Also the mirrorless cameras are much lighter. The only negative is the battery life on mirrorless cameras are not as good as on the DSLR.

Hi Leigh, I've only just found your channel, and I'm curious to go back in time and see what you have to say about all that beautiful gear on the shelves behind you. I have one question for you for now: have you spent any time in the past with any of the Micro 4/3 cameras/lenses out there? Olympus was my entry into my photography hobby as a dad and occasional backpacking or travel. It's been a pleasure to have access to amazing quality gear that's generally smaller/lighter and cheaper that APSC/Full Frame/Medium Format systems. Interested what you think about this gear, if you've ever used it much. Thanks!

Hello from WA. I am a disabled veteran that takes photos for fun. I have a Nikon 7200 and several DX lenses. I could not justify the cost of getting a D810 etc. but prices for those older large format cameras are much more affordable and still plenty useful for someone like me so I purchased a Nikon 810 body.
I don’t want to use my cropped sensor D7200 lenses. But am having trouble figuring out what lenses are large format for the 810 I have.
I assume prices have dropped some on lenses but I can’t figure out which lenses to look at by the info on the lenses letting me know they are for large format cameras. Ie my Nikon 810
Can you please give me some advice? Thank you, Ron. US Marine Vet.

I would say, for typical consumers, yes DSLR is dead. Took me a month to sell my last Canon EF lens, at a rock bottom price. Minimal interest.

I am wedding photograher from last 12 years using my nikon 2xD600 but since mirrorless came in the market its allow me to get in the videograhy and I really enjoy videograhy using 2xZf system but still I don't feel comforabtle with mirrorless on my wedding photo shoots. For wedding I still use my DSLR for photo and for video I use Zf.

One of the things I've noticed is the number of different ASA400 film stocks on the market, which seems to have awakened an "I must try at least 1 of each" style of desire within me.
Not sure I can conclude much, yet-will need to go back and compare them once I have all the prints. It is likely, though, that I will come to the conclusion that, within categories, whichever film(s) I can get cheapest per exposure will be the one(s) I buy next time.

There is another layer of audio starting around the 3:00 mark. An un muted clip maybe?

The industry is always evolving. I gotta make a video about how ai has also tapped into this mix.

I haven't been to this channel in a long time. Leigh, hope you are well. I lost interest in photography some time ago.

Nice video as ever, thanks for making! Agree with your list of changes. However, for me, perhaps one of the biggest is the ability to put a decent camera a few (hundreds of) feet up in the air... Cheers 🙂

The biggest change for me is going heavily back into film, for the reasons you mention in the video really....slowing down, being more mindful of what I photograph. With digital I was taking 1000s of shots, most of which I never looked at again, with film it's a fraction of that number with a high percentage of 'keepers'. I still have my Nikon D750 but my 'daily driver' now is my Nikon F6.

I have ventured into videography and just added a recorder to my mirrorless rig. I am also an avid iPhone videographer and am tempted by the iPhone 15 pro max. I still use a DSLR for wildlife.

We changed the name of our channel about a year before you did. The newer name just seemed more appropriate to what our channel had evolved into. Given the similar formula we use, of course, I like your new channel name. :)

I recently got back to serious hobby photography after close on a decade. A trip to Yellowstone with just my iPhone 12 Pro Max left me jaded and cringing. But the equipment I had would not have cut it anyway. The biggest change in photography for me is information access. Channels like yours have given me incredibly informative opinion pieces and reviews that help me to fine-tune my kit to something I’ll want to keep using meaningfully for years, minimizing the risk of buyers remorse while at the same time opening new vistas to explore. Exciting times indeed!

Great vid and so true! I’ve been shooting since 1990 and the biggest change for me is mirrorless. I’ve become disabled and mirrorless is very light in weight. So I can still shoot 😊

I totally agree, these two things basically. About AI for me, its not the post, but the camera tracking subject and keeping them in the same composition

Through the Covid pandemic .. in a very stressful “helping” profession .. I have come to see my photography as part of my mental health. The cameras and lenses have come and gone through the years, but the power of my desire to seek images consistently takes me to places and events that are truly “life giving”. What has changed in the past five years? My appreciation of the power of “writing with light” (photography) to write to my spirit ..

Great video. Thank you, Leigh. I hope you do a similar video on what hasn't changed; perhaps things like composition, color science, mentoring and menteeing, using hands and eye and mind to delight. Oh yes, and one on how we see images now: screens more than pages and wall hangings.

Love the channel and how it has evolved. It must have been very freeing to move away from the purely product review aspect of being a photography channel.
    Bravo!
