    Out of all 3 endings i like the Haruspex's the best. It gives off the feeling of life moving on after a great loss; the town suffered a catastrophe, but there is a future waiting for the survivors. The Bachelor's is a bit darker, you sacrifice an entire town for the sake of an idea, the possibility of long term gain. It reeks of the end justifies the means, which makes me wonder if the utopians are somehow meant to be analogous to the bolsheviks, as they seem to dogmatically oppose the established order. The changeling's is probably my least favorite. At first glance it seems idyllic, but it is based on human sacrifice. it seems to advocate a tribal mentality that places the whole before the individual. And fuck the powers that be anyway, why should they get a happy ending?

      @not Shane kid The Kin would be the ethnic minorities from the steppes; the tatars, mongolians, caucasians and hundreds of others. They lived in the country's borderlands that might as well have been autonomous worlds of their own, with their own traditions and laws, and refused to be integrated into western russian culture.

      The two children (the "powers that be") bury their grandfather in the beggining of the game. Simon Kain, an old ruler who was thought to be inmortal and is called "grandpa simon" by the children, also dies at the beggining of the game, and the whole point of the polyhedron is keeping him alive in some way. So beneath the cultural and philosophycal interpretations, the game is also a story about two children playing while mourning the loss of their grandfather.

      On one hand, the "Humble" ending seems to be the one with the most character development for Clara, as she learns that even miracles have their destructive price. And it could teach the children that if they want the best of both worlds, they must be ready to sacrifice something of their own.
      On the other hand, the "Utopian" one could teach the children that there is nothing wrong in welcoming the painful end, because something new is going to be born out of the carcass of what's old. It can be both wonderful and terrifying. It's going to depend on how you approach it. And, it's the one that demands the less sacrifice from your part. It might look selfish at the first glance. But, in contrast with the "Humble", do you really think it's worth sacrificing yourself, when you know full well the chance of repetition in the future is high ? There's nothing wrong in having faith, but only when the logical safe options present more harm than good in your calculations.

      I'm still of the opinion all these years later, that compared to the three outcomes, the developers in the secret ending where they take the form of the Tragician and the Executor mentioning that Clara's ending was a rush job, I feel as if the Haruspex's ending is the only truly conclusive ending to the plague. The Bachelor's approach to the solution, is as going into a hostage rescue situation, and shooting the hostage to resolve the issue. Being an outsider, struck by the beauty of the euclidean object, opting to preserve the source of the sand plague while destroying those who are suffering as a result.

      In the epilogue when you 100% complete a save game and speak to the characters that represent the developers, they state that clara's ending was rushed in the development process, so I personally don't really consider it between the Haruspex and Bachelor's solution.
      With that said, I believe the Haruspex has the true answers to the source of the Sand Plague, the Bachelor being an outsider academic, befitting to the stereotype of scholars with their heads so far up their ass that they're blind to results outside of a lab environment, where external factors aren't taken into consideration. The haruspex has the strongest case, being a local to the population and the weird culture surrounding the steppe town being his culture. He understands that the town's main industry is the abattoir, and correctly identifies it as the source of the plague. The bachelor being a detached outsider, high on his own hubris, orders the destruction of the town because he holds no connection to it besides trying to figure the source of the plague out, ultimately choosing to wipe the town out instead of saving it due to lack of personal investment.
      I apologize if this response is a bit scatterbrained, I have just returned from work and haven't touched Pathologic since 2018. Might be time for another round of suffering with another playthrough.

      @@MrSethKS17 I see your point and the Harsupex's. And it does feel wrong to destroy the town when you know what the source is. But it also feels wrong to put an end to the Polyhedron, given the potential it holds.
      Besides, the Changeling's counterpart had the power to control the Plague. And she was spreading it because of what the culture was doing to the land. You fix the problem for now, but do you really want to subject yourself like this to the supernatural will ? To remain in your place, as the land's prisioner ? Normally it wouldn't be a problem, if it wasn't for the fact it was keeping you from exploring further the possibilities of the Polyhedron.

      @@MrSethKS17 I don't think the Bachelor thinks the town should be destroyed out of having no attachment to it, but rather that the plague will just keep coming back if the polyhedron is not destroyed. He has reason to believe that keeping the polyhedron intact could speed up his research into defeating death, which is a noble goal, even if the cost is too high, I think it's understandable to come to that conclusion. All that said if I were in the situation I'd pick the Haruspex's ending.

    Bachelor ending is so logical and smart.
    So we know that time period of game is allusion on September, year 1917. Stamatin told about February calamities, which only can refer to February bourgeois revolution, the background war is WW1, so there are two months prior Bolshevik revolution and people start splitting in their opinions.
    But no, Kains aren't radical communists and this isn't about politics. Bachelor is a modern man, cynical scientist, practically Nietzsche's ubermensch which challenging moral and biological laws and state government as well, just like it was written. So it make so much sense he teamed up with Kains which have the same views - today human is only on the way to be something great, ascended. Kains were both excited and afraid of Bachelor though, because he is stronger, above them. All this Simon thing seems a big hoax, just to lure Bachelor, Simon was a twin of perfectly normal Judge after all. "Higher man utopia" need people to build a road, to create environment for his appearing, and even Kains are easily turning themselves to sacrifice for a plan. No doubt grey town full of faceless people living on old superstitions and mundane things, in fear of Tower which is a dawn of ideal man, eventually will ruin said genius creation. So there you go plague and crisis, people and town served their role as background and must go. Bachelor was used to get rid of other families and settlement, but he is benefited to be much open-minded, stronger, more cynical and cold-hearted, either he stays with Maria or move to Capital.

      From my perspective, the way I saw the Bachelor's solution was that he was, from being an outsider, unable to truly grasp the true root of the problem, and thus his solution to the plague would also end up being fruitless & pointless in the end. Not doing their solution out of malice, but moreso out of ignorance, blinded by academic, 'logical' solutions in a town filled with all sorts of myths & superstitions.
      Being tied to the town's meat industry through his father, I expected the Haruspex would be more accustomed to the local ways of life & their peculiar traditions, and thus his solution would've been tied in more with what is the most logical solution, that is to destroy the Polyhedron, having pierced the earth of the infected bulls blood. I personally side that this is probably the correct outcome to finishing the story.
      I don't really have many comments on the changelings ending, though I do agree with you that it was more of an esoteric, politically driven storyline, discussing more about the families in power compared to the Bachelor, being an outsider & not acquainted with all the details, and the Haruspex being tied up with the false murder accusation, though I feel as if the Haruspex & Changelings timelines converge much more starkly when compared to timeline converges with the Bachelor. Though if memory serves me correctly, her ending was very rushed.
      Sorry if this doesn't really answer your question. I haven't had my coffee yet today.

      @ВладиславШаклеин-ч7м 3 роки тому +13

      It is rather more metaphoric than that. Spoilers.. duh.
      Bachelor is not about "richness". The guy's life work is conquering death itself - an impossible foe and the absolute law of nature - even the reason he is there was to meet with a seemingly immortal man who could reinforce his beliefs. And here, with Kains, he was enthralled the Polyhedron (and earlier drafts scattered around the city as "Stairways to Heaven") - something that is a work of human hands, but utterly defying the laws of nature by just existing. Thus, he can't afford destroying the Polyhedron (which also kept its inhabitants safe from the Plague) as it is a symbol of what he stands for. So he sides with Kains to preserve this astonishing achievement of the men, even at the cost of the city and great many lives - embracing the "human triumph over nature" theme.
      Haruspex is a more straightforward one, the obvious wheel motiff in it gives it away. Cycle and inheritence are the Haruspex' theme. The cycle of nature, which released the Plague in response to Polyhedron's creation. Now that the Polyhedron is gone and the cure is administered to those affected, the life will go on and the children who were backing Haruspex up will eventually inherit the city from the current ruling families, taking up their places, with Haruspex himself leading the Kin like his father did. Preservation and tradition.
      The Impostress (sorry, that's what she is called in the Russian original, more used to that one) is a personification of the Plague, that is the role Powers that Be made her into. But... she doesn't want to be. Empowered by you, the player, she can defy the Powers, which leads to her twin being willed into existence. So, it goes either ending number 1, in which she reembraces what she is, i.e. becomes the Plague again and her twin, taking her place as the Impostress, the Miracle-worker, fails to stop her... or ending number 4, in which her defiance is successfull (...ish), and her twin takes up the mantle of the Sand Plague.
      What you see is people surrender themselves to her power, which turns their blood into, basically, the raw material for the panacea. The Polyhedron is still there, and so is the Plague, but they sustain the city with the blood of willing sacrficies, the vile, corrupt souls who believe they can atone with that and believe in her Miracle. Even Powers are making offerings and bowing down because they are powerless against the guiding hand that made Clara able to preserve things as they are. Yours. Expression of free will in the confines of the world Powers created - that is what her theme is.

    • @Ranixo286
      @Ranixo286 2 роки тому +2

      Yeah it's important to see the endings symbolically. Clara's ending is a bit dark and had some bad implications on the outside, but if you interpret it metaphorically, I think it means sometimes we have to sacrifice our own comfort for the good of a whole even if it's not immediately gratifying (like y'know, Maybe wearing a damn mask) . But I hope p2 does a better job of portraying that rather than the creepy blood cult of war crimes...or maybe that it's only possible in a child's play that compromise can happen...

      People are regularly sacrificed, so there is no need to blow anything up and so on. In real life, children depict these sacrifices using real food.

      O 2 sendo literamente uma adaptação desse kkkkkk, sem esse não existiria o 2. É a mesma coisa de falar "hurr durrr odeio meus pais", você não estaria nem comentando isso se não fosse por eles. Cada uma, os caras querem q um jogo dos anos 2000 tivesse os gráficos do 2. Você deve ser um adolescente modinha q viu o video do felipe ramos e acha que é fã de verdade.
