I haven’t been able to fully appreciate that PC games of that time but the game over scenes in these two are what makes them for me. There’s just something about the graphics of this time that just gives it that special charm that hasn’t been matched with newer games nowadays.

Messiah is a surreal action game where you play as a rather uncanny-looking cherub who has to "remove the sin" out of a cyberpunk world, it's also apparently where the Roblox OOF! sound comes from and Heart of Darkness is a sidescrolling platformer where a young boy has to go rescue his dog from some evil monsters and is filled with similar looking game over sequences as this game right here.

Ellie is not a sympathetic character, she's a cautionary tale. There's a difference between survival, and just killing whatever gets in your way. A small showing of humanity here and there does not excuse the fact that Ellie killed not for self defense, but as an indulgence.

The deaths on most part are made to look silly, and then there's the first one where for 6 frames you can see a spear struck in his eye with probably the only moment in the game that has blood, and the empty stare he has during the scene. Straight up unsettling.
