This Beta 500 RRS is an absolute BEAST

- In this episode, I am finishing up my roadbook navigation training in Montana and Wyoming on the Beta 500 RRS. Trying to race, while deciphering the graphic indications of where you need to be, while catching waypoints on the way.. and filming the whole thing too at the same time.. not so easy! But it's an absolute blast and I am ready to hit the road and make my way down to Mexico for the rally!

Hi Noraly, we are all really interested in how this roadbook works. Please give us a little info on
o what are all your instruments are showing & meaning e.g. is the ODO reset at every waypoint or if not how are the incremental errors taken into consideration
o how do you 'use' the distances in each 'tulip' - i.e. they are relative to what ODO reading?
o What is a CAP heading? What is a CAP?
o what is the instrument to the right of the ODO? What does it show?
o do all competitors have the same roadbook?
o how do you get back on the trail if you have completely missed a waypoint
o if you have a breakdown, e.g. a puncture; is the recovery time credited to you?
o does the roadbook h/w have a GPS built in?
etc. etc.
Maybe someone else knows the answers...?
Ok, I’ll try and answer some of these!
-ODO reader is counting my distance and does not reset at waypoints so I manually calibrate it at waypoints to make sure it keeps as close as possible with the roadbook
- distance in tulip indicates at what distance on my ODO I have to follow which instruction and distance relative to the next tulip
- CAP heading means compass heading. So 90 CAP means riding straight East, 180 is South, 270 West and 360 North. If the roadbook says HP 323, that means I follow compass heading of 323 degrees and there is no road visible
- the other instrument is the rally comp which pops up the waypoints if I’m within a 300 meter radius of the waypoint. It also shows my CAP (compass heading)
- if you get lost, it gets tricky because your ODO will be way off and you have to find you way back. Say you ride the wrong way for 1 kilometer and then 1 kilometer back to the track, your ODO is off with 2 kilometers. If you don’t set that back, nothing in the roadbook will make sense anymore. Some turns are accurate to 10 meters distance so you have to be very accurate or you take a wrong turn
- mechanical issues, breakdowns, crashes.. no time credited. That’s part of rallying and sometimes you can have a bad time just because of a bike issue!
-everybody has the same roadbook
-no GPS route or any other indication of where you are. Roadbook only 🤪
@@ItchyBoots 😬😬😬🤯🤯🤯
@@Minina-Nena-Celina exactly my thoughts 😂 it’s mentally quite intense to decipher where on earth you have to go, while riding as hard as you can.. for hours on end 🤯
@@ItchyBoots But it's awesome. Good job. I won't be able to read and understand all those symbols, sings.
Real 'bundu bashing', that is what we call it in South Africa. Bundu is the wild outdoors experience.
Don't worry about it not being your "normal" style or that you're learning how to do this. You set the bar so high for yourself! It's just wonderful and fascinating to be part of it.
We are hooked. She can read the phonebook and i'll watch.
Agreed, we are happy with whatever you can share Noraly. Ever since you rode Kalahari Rally I knew you would indulge the need for the red mist. You go girl!
you said it exactly as I wanted!...go ahead Noraly..!
Noraly, this is definitely not your normal “Itchyboots” video! Don’t worry about us, it was GREAT! The Beta 500 RRS is definitely perfect for you. I was holding my breath when you rode off into that ravine, but you made it look easy! Thanks for sharing this day of training! We’re all pulling for you! Ride fast and ride safe!
Great footage Noraly 👍, enjoyed the ride.
Goed gedaan meid🙂.
Like your style 💯.Looking forward for more content 🫠.
Take care .
Yes! I had to remind myself to breathe!
Agreed Willy
Go check out her Dakar rally footage. Not bad for a girl hey. 😎👍
@@bagrnut …. Yes, Noraly did extremely well in that one.
Noraly, your viewers understand that this 'rally' series is totally different from your normal adventures. Don't worry about having the same level of narrative and editing, because the rawness of the videos is absolutely lined-up with what you are doing. This episode was super, super fun to watch. Stay safe!
It is just amazing that you are putting this together without a camera crew or a production crew. Excellent job!
🇨🇦 Did anyone else notice Noraly dropping something at 5:41 as she picked up the bike? I will continue watching to see if she realizes it at some point. Watching in slow motion it looks like a spare go pro battery 😢. Well Noraly, you’ll know where to look for it at least. 😁
Yes.. Blue thing..lol
yeah, goPro battery
yep seen it too, definitely gopro battery
Yes.. I was searching for this comment. I would definitely say GoPro battery. At least she knows where it is. 😆
@@Modellbyggaren Same here, I'm shocked she didn't see it in the editing.
Hi Noraly, I think I can safely say for all of us that have been fortunate enough to follow your adventures that we love these productions because of YOU. It’s wonderful to see you branching out of your ‘comfort zone’, if that’s even possible. You’re giving us a little slice of life with you and your methods which are educational but so much fun too. Even those of us who cannot possibly attempt what you are doing while also filming, commenting and instructing as you proceed, enjoy experiencing your travels/adventures!! Keep up the great work BUT MOST OF ALL, enjoy yourself and stay safe…❤❤❤ Rick
Please don't give up on filming it. Your narration is showing us your thought process and we learn road book navigation from seeing you walk through the process in your mind. Very interesting stuff.
You go girl! I'm not the least surprised that you chose to follow this path. You've done all the basics during your travels throughout the world. It's time to move up to the big leagues. No apologies needed. Take your time, get to where you feel comfortable, and follow your instinct and Go for it. Vanlife should be a huge change from what your use to, but I'm sure you'll adapt quickly, as you have a knack for change. Best wishes, and looking forward to your adventures.
checklist for when noraly uploads a video
1-upvote
2-get comfy
3-watch
4-take a few minutes to assimilate how good the video was
5-go back to checking the clock every 5 minutes waiting for the next video
😅
😅
I pause the first few seconds and email all my friends the link.
1. Get comfy;
2. Start Noraly's new video;
3. Click Like button while intro is playing.
4. Enjoy!
Thanks for taking us along on this new adventure! And no apologies necessary on editing/creating differences. This adventure doesnt fit the mold of your previous travels. And yes, we can see where more concentration is needed in monitoring the computer screens/ less time to enjoy the scenery. Be safe out there!
I've "whined" about her skills lacking a bit before. Before anyone gets mad, I grew up in WV. Rode mainly what is now considered hard enduro type terrain. Was never good at higher speed stuff though. So I want to see her spend more time riding SLOW. Learn to HANDLE the bike so you avoid the tip-overs. Do lots of donuts and wheelie turns. All said with huge amount of love for her channel. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
That doesn't look easy! Definitely need to stay focused!! Thanks for sharing❣
@@gailtaylor1636 don’t forget she must err on the side of caution when riding in some of the most desolate places on Earth. A wrong move could be fatal. However, I do agree with you and it’s good to see Noraly working hard at it here
@@mbal4052 needs to develop her skills at maintaining balance so doesn't tip over. I went from bike with 6ish inches of travel to one with 13.5 inches. Because I'd learned to balance by riding around stuff as slow as possible, the height of the bike was irrelevant. Not meant as bragging.
@@gailtaylor1636 nice! What do you ride now?
Well I'm definitely glad you decided to bring us along! It looks very cool but yet way more complicated than I ever would have imagined.
Physically and mentally taxing, I like how the trainers are letting you figure out navigation, thanks Noraly for all the hard work with creating the content absolutely loved it.
Congratulations Noraly, for reaching 1,500,000+ subscribers! You deserve all of us and more! Thank you for what you do.
I had no idea how complicated and involved rally racing was , this has been brilliant, absolutely fascinating 👍
Unstoppable Noraly never ceases to surprise Us with something new and unexpected, though, we are accepting any new challenge that she puts on the table, Go on Noraly.
These people really embraced you and made you part of the family.......very heart warming....❤
Nothing like a rally blast in the morning! I'm sure you're still tired. I really appreciate the work you still put into these videos. I'm sure we all do. Thanks for continued posting.
I’m not familiar with rallying but I love it! Thank you for sharing. I think it’s so great that you continue to learn, push yourself, and have new adventures. You’re a real inspiration! Can’t wait for the next episode!
1.5 Million people following our Noraly now. Wow! What an achievement ... and what a wonderful community we have.
Gratulation from Germany. I wish you just the best for your future.
Just loving it so much. No apology necessary for video limitations - the whole thing is mentally and physically demanding. How life has improved now you're back with us.
Great opening scene, getting up from the bush, saying “no big deal, no big deal”. Great outlook and determination! But we’d expect that from you. Never give up.
The only time in human history where training is not associated with some type of pain and misery. Wow that looks fun! Doing a rally race is now on the list!
This is great, no need to do your "normal" thing. Just ride and we are along for the adventure!!
What a milestone: 1,5 million followers👍🥳
I can only wish lol
This is land navigation at a new level.
Something green fell into the bush as you bent to pick up the bike. Same green as ODO. Well, what can I say, it's seriously difficult to keep one eye on the road and the other on the roadbook. You are really amazing with everything you do to share it with us and let us experience your adventures. Thank you for all that!
Glad you are having fun, you deserve a break from all your travels and constant uploading! Thanks for bring us along and don't worry about getting it filmed perfectly...when you get back to traveling again, you will be able to focus on the details. Bless!
Noraly your riding skills have tremendously improved over the years. All the kilometers/miles you have ridden have paid high dividends. I cannot pen in words the excitement and enjoyment it is to watch your videos. They say everyone has a hero. You are mine and I’m sure several thousands more feel the same way. Maybe one of these days I will have the pleasure of meeting you. Full speed ahead!
That vehicle can certainly take you to various places. We appreciate your dedication and consistency.
No, it is not your usual style but we still love it. I just love the way that you accept new challenges. Thanks for sharing.
Noraly, we still love to hear/see you as you try new things. Keep the videos coming.
What a physical and mental challenge! I've always been fascinated with rally racing but never truly understood it. You are putting it all into context, what a fantastic new phase for you! Love your new Beta. Thanks for sharing. What a ride!!
Norally is such a great story teller. These two rally videos were fascinating and as much fun as the travel videos. Thank you.
Very simply WE love being included on your adventures and will savor every moment that you are able to share on video. Thank you Noraly you are amazing.
I am always amused and wonder if these people you meet just see the fun-loving, adventurous, medium sized Dutch woman... or do they have any idea that you are the 80M tall, unstoppable, adventure woman with an entire world of riding experience, and a family of over a million fans.
It would be so great to see some scenes of "recognition". You are amazing, according to millions!
"Hope you liked the video!" -Only a non-existing Itchy Boots Video is a bad one! I loved it! 🤗
Hopefully Alpha is done with her technical troubles now for good! Mexico, eh? Those who guessed Baja 1000 were right then? 🙃
As always I am buzzing with anticipation for the next ones!
😍🤗
P.S.: Landscapes, landscapes landscapes!
Not the 1000.
@@gailtaylor1636 Wah! Just how many bloody rallies are there? 💥🤯😵💫😂
No time for landscapes this time, too busy counting tulips, so the P.S. should be: tracks, tracks, tracks 😁
@@MikePara111 True! Man, Mike! I will overheat the Google servers with all the web searches I am doing here! A certain someone is way too good at obscuring her tracks! 🤨😅
@@gailtaylor1636 And thanks, I guess I found it. I just wonder which of her friends is the other rider they don´t enlist. ☺
After watching most of your trips and adventures, I can now see that one day you will end up doing dakar rally. Your interest in motorbikes, offroad and adventure with almost no limits just shows that your made for dakar. Best of luck to you🤙
While the long distance trip was what drew me in, now, I think I would watch Noraly mow her lawn (If she had one). Such a nice lady with a beautiful outlook on life that has become part of my mental furniture.
Hi Noraly, we are really excited and looking forward what will happen next. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us and for sharing your training. We are fortunate enough to follow you always!
Glad to see you back, no one else like you in this space!
Hello, thanks for watching🎁❣️❣️
DM✍️ the above name on NICEGRAM👆to claim your reward
You don't have to explain about this being different from your usual video. You have us trained to expect the unexpected. We are very happy that you share what you can. Concentrate on learning the road book and we will benefit from that in the real rally. Stay safe and enjoy.
Noraly needs to do Noraly ! and i'm sure many found more depth to the whole for it ;-)
It's so smart that you are taking us through the rally training with you. Intro to the navigational equipment is key for all of us to understand "what it takes" to actually ride in a Rally. Your very brave just returning to Mexico!!! This is truly an exciting time. Roll on Noraly!
Wonderful to be a part of your Rally experience, thank you! Probably only a few of us will understand how truly challenging it is to participate in a Rallye. It requires not only high driving skills but also managing the roadbook while driving in itself is also a very demanding task that needs a lot of exercise! Thanks to your great video‘s we all can see and learn what a rally is all about and admire the high skills of biking techniques required!
Dear Noraly, really great have you back and being taken on your next adventure. Thank you so much for all you do producing these episodes of your endeavours. I think that you are an amazing person and such an inspiration. Take care be safe and best wishes Rodney.
We appreciate all you do in allowing us to journey along with you!❤
That was an awesome ride Noraly! Even though there were some struggles and hiccups, it was great to see you riding again. The whole biking community looks forward to your rally adventures. All the best to you and your rides with Alpha!
Hi Noraly, Thanks again for letting us ride with you , the excitement in you voice says it all, the enjoyment and the new adventure, not what we expected but also a bit of something else. Cannot wait to enjoy this adventure with you. There is a lot what we don't understand about all the gadgets on the bike but trust that you will tell us more as time goes on. Keep safe out there and God Bless.
I am slowly making my way through your library of episodes season by season, thoroughly enjoying every one of them, you constantly amaze me with your positive attitude and willingness to unplan your plans to fit your circumstances. I think I can speak for many of your viewers when I say I watch your videos because I like motorbikes AND because its YOU making them, so if its less or your "normal" videos that's fine for me i'm always going to be in a win win situation, stay safe and stay well. s
What a treat! On one tab, I'm watching Noraly ride through the beautiful mountains of Mexico, and on this tab, I get to watch my favorite motorcyclist train for another rally. Go Noraly Go!!!
"I´m dripping chocolate milk"
Probably among my top-5-Noraly quotes 😁
i love this stuff. i rode bikes for years in my youth, and i realized how much i missed it.
My son used to ride motocross and one thing that helped was to have strength training because the more upper body strength the more control of the bike you have.
This content is amazing. I get to see Montana, Wyoming, new gear, new bike, new equipment, new everything! Merry Christmas everyone! Thanks for taking the time to include us Noraly.
Drone shots 13 minutes in of you riding in the endless looking prairie must feel like joyous freedom!
Thank you so much for continuing to share your adventures.
It's great to see you get into something and very naturally spread out - learning by engagement x fun, I'd say! And hey: Mike and Slade are just awesome!!
It looked like you got hooked on rallying after your first rally in Africa and you would probably do another one, But I didn't expect you would go all-in like this- great job you don't mess around!! Rallying is really challenging!
I might be wrong. But I've had a feeling that Noraly is training in this kind of terrain because her next adventure will be crossing all the Australia, through the entire outback. It is just my wild Guess 😜
Maybe...but what about the Sahara?
@@vitameat I agree about Australia. She's done her share of sand in Africa. I think her personality matches up with what I perceive as Australia and it's people.
South Africa and south/central America are not at all some of the safest places to ride though, but the Sahara through all the Maghreb countries is a whole different story on safety if one really wants to cross the Sahara, even in small groups, not to mention all alone.
Here’s me:
Whew! Exhausted! Living vicariously with you!
Now I’m throw breakfast on the table and get the kids off to school. Big smile ❤. So glad for you giving me this work out. I’ll be revving the throttle all day ❤
We used a similar system for road moves when I was in the military. Though, back then we called them "route cards" and it was on paper, long before digital technology came along. The other difference was there were two people in a vehicle, drive & co-driver. The driver drove, and the co-driver navigated. When in convoy, everyone followed the convoy leader, but had the route cards as well, just in case. You're having a blast learning something new Noraly. Enjoy it while you can, and have loads of fun. And thanks for taking your viewers along for the ride. We are enjoying it as well.
I remember doing that in West Germany back in the early 80s. I was Driving as Convoy leader through the Mountains in Winter. We hit some Black Ice and almost went off the side of the Mountain. It stopped the whole Convoy for about a Hour. We were Towing a very Big Generator that Jackknifed.
I started watching you a year ago, went back in time to your first video’s, and now every video can’t wait for the next one. I admire your relaxed way of fighting through all problem and your enthousiasme in all you do ! Respect for all ! And I am a bit proud that you’re Dutch !
What awesome terrain to ride in. Good luck on the rally in Mexico!👍
Very glad you did share the Rally riding with us it's great to see thank you 👍😁🏍️
Thanks, glad you're back early, really enjoying it
Awesome that you take us along this learning process and a huge learning curve, so very much to navigate so much at one time! Here we all thought you were taking a much needed break, but no, much more to see and learn. Thanks for bringing us along and have a great road trip!
Go well wishing you all the best from Martin and Mum PS. Mums 90 and loves your chanell
Its surreal from the drone angle/perspective because the video looks like its straight out of a video game. awesome
Love this!!! You seem so happy and focused!!
Love this content! I’m a tourer, but appreciate how challenging the rally sport is. Great drone footage too!!
Share what you want or can, we are not entitled to any more than this. Thank you for taking our minds and hearts on such wonderful adventures. Stay well.
Always fun to watch. Thanks for sharing Noraly!
Absolutely Brilliant
You go Girl
And have Fun
Thanks for taking us along for the ride !!!
What comeback!!!! norraly is in new level 💥🎉🤯👍🇬🇷
That looks like a lot of information to process when you are riding flat out. Very intense. Stay safe, Noraly.
Main thing she has to use is the comp tells you how far you are from next turn. But It's easy to forget to think about it. Start just riding cause that's the fun. have no doubt she'll adapt.
We love watching you. Keep it up. Thank you
You are awesome! Anything you give us is much appreciated!!
I LOVE the rally videos. It shows me something I knew even less about than adventure riding and it really inspires/encourages me as a female rider. Thanks so much, Noraly. You have truly changed my life.
That's a lot to track while also riding as fast as you can. This looks like so much fun
Thanks so much for your effort to share your fun because it is so much fun to watch. Almost as fun as doing it!
Noraly, the joy of watching your video is following you, with all the giggles, laughter, and stresses. No worries if you need to take a break from UA-cam. Just be you and focus on what’s next in your life (this rally). We’ll be here when you’re ready to post another episode💙
As I travel through Wyoming/SD I often wonder what it would have been like for the pioneers in wagons, I think you just gave me a glimpse of what that would have been like.
What a blast! Really appriciate that you're sharing this with us!
I love this change in content, as it looks like you are having a blast with the challenges you are putting yourself through.
SO happy you are back and absolutely love learning about rally racing!
I certainly loved it even though it wasn't the usual Itchy Boots video with geology lessons included 😁 I had fun watching you train and take on that rugged terrain. Can't wait to see you in the rally!
"Normal Style " doesn't matter what it is, you do such a good job, and we all get to ride along with you. Great to be part of it. Keep them coming.
Thanks for sharing your adventures.. ❤️
I am happy for your coming,
Appreciate your efforts to use the drone even on these terrains. You are a super 🌟
WOW ! This new navigation system looks challenging! But I think Noraly thrives in new challenges! We are so happy that you still want to share all this! Itchy Boots Rally Style!
Know that we are your fans and will support everything you do! Vamos a Mexico!!
Lots of love and luck from Texas ❤❤
This is amazing, I can't imagine how you are learning all this new style of riding, navigation, and continue to narration while filming. You are amazing learning all this new riding and navigation. Much Respect! enjoy and stay safe!
Keep having fun mate, inspiration to all bike enthusiasts
It is good to see you out of your normal comfort zone, you showed us that you are capable of adapting quick with a smile . Take it easy , stay safe .
How good it is to see you again, Noraly, And of course, you had us on the edge of our seats with our hearts racing - watching you race. I'm guessing its down to Baja, but maybe not. Can't wait!!! :)
Her "Mexico" timing is right in line with an upcoming, now past, Race/Rally in Baja.
Thankyou so much for letting us into your Rally Adventures - love watching you learn and figuring it out
Thank you! Do what you do, I love it!
Totally amazed at how quickly you've learned to use the Road Book. It is not an easy thing to master. Thank you for taking us on this new journey.
So good to see you again!
I’ve been having Itchy Boots withdrawals.
You’re handling of the Beta-beast was impressive, and going from single track to no-track making it look so easy.
Too much tech!
Thanks for all of the work you put into these amazing videos 🙏🏼👍🏼🤙🏼
Wow!! I felt as frustrated as you when you didn't know where things were, but I am in my kitchen. I loved it...being with you as you learned. Talking to yourself trying to sort it out. Being 72, I'm glad I'm on my computer with you rather than on the bike. But as a retired teacher, I love the self-talk as you figure it out. Glad I'm along for the experience!!!
This is fantastic - great to be watching your adventures again and look forward to the actual rally!
