  • I found my way back to the Delatite for the first time this year. In this video I fish a bit of dry dropper (nymph below dry) and had the best time catching on both the dry and nymph!

My dad (experienced) and I (novice) did a guided day with Tom the day after this video and it was absolutely fantastic. Great advice, patient help with snags and lost flies, great chat and more fish than we could count. If you've thought about you should do it.

I super appreciated the discussion around your use of the long leader. I’ve been hoping for more discussion around this from your past videos. Many thanks.

Thanks man, also have a look at my last couple of fly life magazine articles. I explained it in depth and my approach with them. Cheers, Tom

Glorious looking stream and some great creek fishing well explained. Do you find the nymph dropper helps anchor the drift in such turbulent seams?

Thanks for sharing your adventure and information about the pockets of water and where and why you fish them, I find it very informative. It would be nice one time to do a “novice explanation of reading seems and runs etc. Thank you.

Another great video but one thing that has consistently bothered me over many of your videos is why don't you remove the dry fly and Euro nymph? You have a long 6x/7x leader (16 foot?), and I know sag is likely to be caused by the fly line (is it a Euro or Fly line?) but removing the dry gives you the opportunity to get the nymph down. The message from many others like yourself, for example, Devin Olsen, Lance Egan and Domenick S, is that to fish successfully consistent adjustments are required to suit the conditions so why not snip off the dry, possibly add a heavier nymph and euro?

Hi Alan, thanks for the comment, the reason is many people (many of my clients included) don’t euro nymph and like to see how they would approach our water with conventional gear that they own and use. This is why in many videos where would definitely catch more fish euro nymphing (and if I was in a competition I would euro nymph), I still fish with a tapered leader and conventional fly line because that is what the majority of Australian anglers would use. Cheers, Tom

Tom can I ask with the dry is it attached with a triple surgeon knot ? And how far between the dry and nymph ? And is it a 12ft leader to bottom nymph ?
