    My personal favorite HollywoodOS tropes:
    1) Decrypting a password one character at a time
    2) Text dumping to the screen *always* elicits that sound
    3) Text is always displayed in ALL CAPS using a computer-styled font
    4) If a file is deleted from a server, it also disappears on the user's screen
    5) When a "programmer" refers to something as "computer code"
    6) Source code is HTML

      Additional favorites of mine:
      - passwords can be guessed by researching the account holders life... ex The password is the name of the account holder's deceased daughter who died tragically in a pool accident
      - image resolution is infinite. If the image is fuzzy, just zoom in some more
      - there is a global database that can instantly retrieve any piece information... and it's available for domestic crime investigation "query for all pizza orders that asked for anchovies between 6-10pm over the past week in downtown LA by tall brunette white men"

    As some others have pointed out, the code at 7:51 is VHDL. When I saw it, I thought it looked oddly familiar... "entity", "port", "std_logic", the all caps... and then it hit me. All the RTL code at a company I used to work at years ago was in VHDL.

    "Person of Interest" has these hacking scenes in almost every episode. I would love to see how this genius billionaire hacker is getting things done very easily all the time . They are usually dealing with some kinda AI system which get feeds from Govt. and identify bad people in society planning to do a violent crime.

    - I assume the _Castle_ clip was a game or something because it doesn't make sense for Castle and Beckett to be trying to hack each other. 🤨
    - The hacking "audition" scene in _Swordfish_ with Travolta holding a gun to Jackman's head and a girl blowing him while he tries to break into some system is notorious in computing circles. 😂

    • @khendron
      @khendron Рік тому

      If I remember correctly, there was a time in Season 8 when Beckett was doing her own investigation and not telling Castle to protect him from danger. Castle was figuring it out and trying to hack into her investigation. Something like that. Season 8 was kinda messy.

    Movies and tv, with respect to computer code/programming/hacking, they are about as accurate as they are about just about most things. History, technology, medicine, firearms, explosives, forensics... just about anything portrayed in movies and tv is portrayed for entertainment first and accuracy is often much further down the list. To be fair to the writers, producers, etc, if many of these were portrayed accurately they would probably have a pretty narrow appeal and would be pretty boring to most consumers. It is still a bit humorous to watch from a somewhat more knowledgeable perspective.
