It never ceases to amaze me how I never hear of people like Jim Shaw until there is a video about them. What a wonderful career he had with the Buckeroos. He seems like a very grateful gentleman.
At age 71, and a 'fan' of Buck Owens, Don Rich, and the rest of the Buckroos, I thought I had a pretty good grasp on their storied history. But thanks to Jim Shaw and this video, I've just learned SO MUCH MORE. Thanks Mr. Shaw for wanting to 'be-a-mouse' and then sharing your success with us. I appreciated your attitude & work ethic.
Wow Im fixing to be 73 I stumbled across this by accident It was wonderful seeing a Buckaroo still with us I am a huge fan of Buck and the Buckaroos and loved watching Hee Haw! In 1970 I was graduating hs!
Home town hero he is. What a way to get hired by the man when you’re only 23! I’m still proud to say that I was a part of the “Let’s Bring Back Buck” movement in the late 80s when I was in the Air Force stationed in the Bay Area. And thank you Mr Shaw for helping make that happen!
I heard the name Jim Shaw from the time I was little. My Dad always had great admiration for him. I am the second oldest son of Homer Joy, the man that wrote Streets of Bakersfield.....Loved the interview.
Wow! Brings back so many memories for me growing up in Bakersfield. My stepfather Don Lee replaced Don Rich on guitar/vocals after his fatal motorcycle accident. Many hours I spent as a young teen at Buck's original recording studio/office on N. Chester Ave in Bakersfield. I cleaned and re-strung those red/white/blue guitars when my step-dad brought them home. Buck and the rest of the Buckaroos, especially Jim and Doyle were always so nice to me. Jim's historical story-telling is so spot-on and very interesting!
I'm a Big Buck Owen's fan and musician and your step dad was an excellent guitar player used to think it was unusual to see him play with a thumb pick now I do some had an excellent bass voice !
good good good stuff, thanks to Jim for working on this interview. I have loved Buck's music since I was a little guy, and I made it to Crystal Palace just after Buck passed..so very sad, a huge loss. Thanks Jim!!
Gibson payed him to show and play the SG for advertisement Gibson was trying to Introduce the SG into the bakersville twang that was going on back then , Buck and his music back then was a big influence and the telecaster skyrocketed in sales. Hardly anyone was buying Gibson for country music because of Buck Owens back then.
I knew Tommy Collins---Leonard Sipes---he was responsible getting Buck into the music business and Merle Haggard (they were Tommy's guitar players----Tommy was also one of the Founders of the Bakersfield sound---also Susan Raye was on Buck's show and Hee Haw and sang a lot with Buck and She married Buck's drummer. Susan's cousin, Terry was married to my dad's cousin, until Terry's untimely death.
True, Buck was never the same without Don Rich they created timeless music together; , you can feel he joy Buck has for his music in the song renditions in this great interview/video

Thank you, Mr Shaw. I wish there had been more, ( much more) of Don Rich. He's my buckaroo!
I loved Buck, too.
JIM SHAW IS MY GRANDPA
Thanks Jim

God bless you sir your dad wrote a jewel and the remake he did of John Law was great too .
@@randysmith5760 Thank you for the kind words. I loved both versions of John Law. I played drums on the last one.
Jim Shaw is a very nice man. He's been through some unpleasant life experiences. He treats the customers very nice.

@@keithclark486 I don't doubt it. Still a rare sight.
Bakersfield Sound: up front Telecaster, no kick drum and no bass below 100 hZ.

TRUTH!
What is the song at 25 minutes in?
On the Rebound, written by Floyd Kramer.
@@thedevilinthecircuit1414very cool.
That's one of my favorite songs.
No Don No true buckaroos

Gatekeeping is bad form. If Buck Owens is the band leader, it's The Buckaroos.
I agree.
