It's fun watching them working out the bugs on the first show. They were comfortable about the rough edges because they were having fun. Don Rich was a joy to watch.
211 comments and only one person mentions the steel player (but spells his name wrong)? That's Tom Brumley, people, and he was one of the greatest steel players who ever lived.
There has never been a star like Don Rich. He was multi-talented, down-to-earth and a cool guy, but modest. I loved him as a kid and listened to the live at Carnegie Hall album easily a hundred times. To see the very first Buck Owens show and 'Buckaroo' played at the end to fade out is like a country music blessing. You 'had to be there' and grow up in Bristol, TN like I did to really appreciate it. It was real magic from real people...
I was 11 years old when this show debuted. My father loved this stuff and of course as a 1960's 11 year old that was looking toward Space (this of course was the middle of the Moon Shot Program) I whined when my dad made me watch this. I was more into Rock in Roll growing up. This and Porter Wagner was on. Saturday evenings if I remember correctly. HOWEVER, now that I am a LOT older and I did live in Nashville back in the late 1970's Country Music has grown on me. (I do have a fond memory of going to the Grand Ole' Opry BEFORE it was moved...1979 I believe was when we as a group went there) Watching this show now reminds me of a simpler time. It was clean good entertainment and honest fun. In fact I regularly listen to the Sat-Radio Country Music channels. Outlaw Country, Willie's Road House, Prime Country, and Bluegrass Country quite often. I still personally do not care for the 'New Country Music' channels. (Same goes for just about any of the 'New Rock' either) And I agree with Harold Lloyd's post. This IS American Culture. The one thing that still makes me laugh though is the outfits they wore. Yes, this was the beginning of Color TV and all of that but the Country Outfits still make me chuckle... LOL (As with just about everything in the 1960's...Loud Colors...) Still, I am thankful and grateful that this was a part of my life even though I did not appreciate it at the time...
I really miss Buck, Don and the Buckaroos. I am grateful for the internet to relive the moments when country music was bonafide country and western with the performers dressing up in their great-looking cowboy suits. Most of the stuff the music industry tries to feed us these days is a fusion of crap.
Apparently Buck was a guitarist first then a singer. It’s unusual to hear the singer’s acoustic guitar on a lot of these old country shows, but since Buck was strong enough, you heard his loud and clear. Good observation!
ExACTly!!! Buck walks right up to the mic and sings and plays with the most confidence of anyone I've ever seen. This band was the bomb before the bomb was invented.
This is great. I was born here in Sweden in -71 and the first record nu perents baught to the stereo was Buck Owens. I dont know wy but this songs stick to me as a little kid. Such phenomenal talent in every body here! Don sang " Such a Pretty World Today" once, really surprised me he didn't go solo. But they were quite a team, quite a band. Thankful for the videos we have now, sure can't get real country on radio anymore.
I could maybe note. Down twenty five real good country music. Greats. I stop at that number, although,i know ,there. Is many more. Great country music classic. Greats. Not,too, many. From. Elsewhere.
Best tenor singer that ever lived. Don Rich was as much a star as Buck.
He made it seem so easy. I love listening to him and (attempting) to sing along.

Oh wow!!! such good memories....great show..Buck Owens and his Buckaroos was so good!!
It's fun watching them working out the bugs on the first show. They were comfortable about the rough edges because they were having fun. Don Rich was a joy to watch.
merci
WOOOOOW. Don's solo on Love's Gonna Live Here Again may be the best Telecaster I've ever heard!!
Thank you for sharing your talents w the world; you made it a better place...RIP, Buck and Rich.
211 comments and only one person mentions the steel player (but spells his name wrong)? That's Tom Brumley, people, and he was one of the greatest steel players who ever lived.
+Bob Russell he was certainly earning his paycheque in that band! The man is a bad ass!
hey Bob I always loved that steel guitar Brother right on!!
yes he is very good...
no....Don Weldon is the greatest.......porter waggonner show
Can't say I've heard of Don Weldon...
Wow! Classic Country music. loved this time in my life. sweet, simple and no bull shit.
Buck and Don, the greatest country guitar duo.
I used to listen to Buck Owens 50 years ago in Norway, and I still remember his songs.
He was an great Country artist.
I love classic country music, love from scotland🏴🥃
Buck Owens was a great artist! Great Tely tone by Don Rich! Old and good times...
Still playing this in 2019 and it makes me happy.Great artists.Grew up with this music, when my dad drove a truck all day...great memories.
It is rare to hear to such perfectly matched voices. I always thought it was buck singing his own harmony.
Buck Owens music. Would& always. Could rejuvinate. Moods. Back to life from deep gloom and depression. He was. Truly fantastic. Like that.
.
Buck Owens was one of Country Music's Best! We love and miss you, Buck!
This is where Dwight Yoakum got all of his ideas!!!
Great stuff. Thanks for posting.
Love it when Don keeps saying ''whoop whoop'' during the introduction where they are playing Buckaroo.
(I do have a fond memory of going to the Grand Ole' Opry BEFORE it was moved...1979 I believe was when we as a group went there)
Watching this show now reminds me of a simpler time. It was clean good entertainment and honest fun.
In fact I regularly listen to the Sat-Radio Country Music channels.
Outlaw Country, Willie's Road House, Prime Country, and Bluegrass Country quite often.
I still personally do not care for the 'New Country Music' channels. (Same goes for just about any of the 'New Rock' either)
And I agree with Harold Lloyd's post. This IS American Culture.
The one thing that still makes me laugh though is the outfits they wore.
Yes, this was the beginning of Color TV and all of that but the Country Outfits still make me chuckle... LOL
(As with just about everything in the 1960's...Loud Colors...)
Still, I am thankful and grateful that this was a part of my life even though I did not appreciate it at the time...
I really miss Buck, Don and the Buckaroos. I am grateful for the internet to relive the moments when country music was bonafide country and western with the performers dressing up in their great-looking cowboy suits. Most of the stuff the music industry tries to feed us these days is a fusion of
crap.
Love Don Rich, great voice, musician, I can imagine how Buck Owens missed him, such a shame he passed away.
After all these years it still breaks my Heart to think how he left this world ..I truly loved both Don and Buck ❤❤
Great live performance...notice how strong and loud Buck's rhythm is. Now this is talent !!!!
And after 45 years it still makes a person happy listen to this great musik.
Thanks Buck.
I wish i could thank you in person.😌
Yes he was Buck Owens right hand man!👦🕺💓
Such phenomenal talent in every body here!
From. Elsewhere.
That's the truth!
