I’m not a huge U2 fan but there’s no denying this is a Chune. The way it builds, and holds, then let’s go, back again, it creates a great sense of expectation from the start and seems to deliver it endlessly for the entire song. It is indeed a classic.
😂 when I read Digitech RP250 on the description, The image of the famous video where his tech show his rig came to mu mind… he nailed the tone with just one multi effect. Genius
Hi, it's not a true Marshall, it is actually a kit tube amp I built. The sound you hear from my guitar is not going through the amp anyway, it is straight digital recording from the Digitech processor. Thanks for your comments!
@@ThatOtherRaccoon but the effect IS the chirp and so why not use a pick you can play in the traditional way and still get that chirpiness from the notes? I’m not talking about “grit”, check those picks I commented on; they’re sharp tipped.
@@JediCrackSmoke I did see that they were sharp tipped but the pick I refer to is the one the Edge used. Not that I’m doubting the Tortex could produce that same gritty sound.
I'm a shitty guitarist. I said once to a friend (who's a good guitarist) that I'm not a guitarist, just "a guy who owns a guitar". My friend wasn't having that shit: "you own a guitar, and you try to play it. You're a guitarist." Good advice.
vespworks Dude, I must have spent a good thousand dollars trying to recreate that sound. Its almost a "clucking". I had the gear, the right settings, but nothing I did sounded right at all. Did some research and found out about those picks, and I was curious, so I kinda slashed up a thick guitar pick to give it those ridges. Soon as it hit a string I was floored. Are you in america? Do you know where to get those over here?
Imaginar los productores en el estudio de grabación cuando escucharon esto por primera vez de manos de The Edge 😮😮😮😮😮 se quedarían flipaos! Estooooo es algo muy diferente e increíble a lo que estamos acostumbrados. Brilliante
Great sound. Did you use more than one delay? I tried it at a single delay at 350ms and the rest of the settings like you said. Didn't get that extra echo like you got
Vespworks. Totally outstanding playing and your tone is exceptional. Well done brother. I just learned to play bad. This is definitely next. Hope you don't mind me copying your technique. Again superb. Keep it going.
this is still my all time favorite U2 song, so stirring, emotional, deep, profound, astounding, remarkable, incredible! I believe it has yet to be the song for any scene in any movie, and it never will be because it's just too good for any movie scene, or else it would have to be a whale of a scene and movie for U2 to give permission for it to be used,........if it has been used, I sure would like to know what movie and scene, I'm betting it's a lame movie and lame scene, nothing can touch this song, so it would have to be a very incredible movie indeed and scene for it to be played to, the bigger you get, the more bandwagoners, leeches, opportunists, all that's bad comes along and attaches themselves to you, exploits you etc. When you're as big as U2, somebody/people in the U2 empire/corporation are going to fuck up things, and they have...............when I bought the U218 singles cd with booklet, a compilation, which 'compilations suck ass', everything seemed cool as I was listening to the cd, but then, as the end of 'streets' was coming to a close, bam! they just cut it off! I mean, edge playing the song out in guitar full completeness is gone! what assheads would do that? and to that song? when you butcher a song like that, there's no point in listening to it all...............I wonder if U2 themselves know about this? its probably the same people that fucked up the U2 1983 red rocks concert in denver, colorado, the dvd version............if you're gonna do something, don't half do it, do it right, especially pertaining to U2! any real U2 fan, and they're few, knows that money is shit, means nothing, when you're dealing with sacred things, like U2, they're priceless! so anyone with any interest in money shouldn't be involved with U2 in ANY way, U2 started out giving less of a fuck about $$$$ and I believe they still don't care, they reached into their own pockets to make the popmart tour work...........I don't see remnants, but a lot of the original U-2 in them today, when THAT'S gone, so is the band, U2 are like no band ever and there will never be another, they're the kind of band that if they made 100 albums that still wouldn't be enough, you'd always be hungering for more 'U2' few if any other bands can do that, keep people that love and appreciate them and their music always anticipating what 'the next U2 album' be, this band has always been unpredictable, surprising even themselves in innumerable ways, this band is the total package, with creativity, spontaneity, humbleness, openness, they listen to others views, unselfish, not arrogant, one of a kind. Great job. To my ears you've delivered over 90% of the Edges sound on less than 1% of the Edges equipment budget. Amazing 👍.
😂 when I read Digitech RP250 on the description, The image of the famous video where his tech show his rig came to mu mind… he nailed the tone with just one multi effect. Genius
you mean the budget used to create the pedal he's using
some equipment is so rare it can retune your instrument
This was 12 years ago, nothing compared to the modeling amps that we have today.but still sounds amazing, great Job
You said it. “To your ear”. This actually sounds horrible compared to the Edge. It’s good to get the gist of how to sound similar.

The Edge is a genius. Using the grit on the plastic pick to get that sound is genius.
I love it so much, incorporated it into my playing
...or he could just have used a Dunlop Tortex Sharp Guitar Pick 1.35mm and achieved the same chirpiness. Just sayin'.
@@JediCrackSmoke yeah they make different brands with grit in there. I’m saying more in general. The idea of using the grit on it to get that effect.

It sounds easy when you just hear the song but when you see how its actually played it blows your mind !💯
Loved it. I could never do that so love seeing people who can.
Never say never! Pick a guitar and go ahead

“I’ll never be able to play that” said every guitarist ever
Its unreal how much that pick matters to the sound of this haha
It's true. I should have played the intro both ways to show the difference. It's night and day.

Great demo and no wonder The Edge who's playing is so different, is so highly rated, thanks for sharing vespworks.

Nice job! Best damn band EVER!
Amazing cover… and the tone is one of the best I found on UA-cam. Thanks for sharing the settings on the description 👊
The tone just needs to sound thicker with a low end compression. But other wise sounds great 👍
Слушаю и вспоминаю молодость, нашу улицу, мы молодые, счастливые, веселые, у нас гитара, длинные волосы, джинсы, и думали, что это будет вечно.

That was really well played. Would love to have about 20 minutes of just the opening with some fun stuff thrown in. I could loop that all day. :-)
