- Quick / Rough guitar cover for an old favorite... it's been over 20 years now? Wow, I feel so old.
Guitar: Fender American Standard Strat. Set to 2nd Position on pickups (Bridge+Middle), tone set to ~6/10 to cut down on high piercing frequencies which I really don't like on Strats or Teles... warms up the tone nicely.
Using a blue Herdim pick, which is key to obtaining the Edge's chimey raspy sound.
Digitech RP250: Delay set to 350ms, ~ 8 repeats, ~85% volume on the repeats. Some reverb, and very slight vibrato, as well as compressor.

I’m not a huge U2 fan but there’s no denying this is a Chune. The way it builds, and holds, then let’s go, back again, it creates a great sense of expectation from the start and seems to deliver it endlessly for the entire song. It is indeed a classic.
Great job. To my ears you've delivered over 90% of the Edges sound on less than 1% of the Edges equipment budget. Amazing 👍.
😂 when I read Digitech RP250 on the description, The image of the famous video where his tech show his rig came to mu mind… he nailed the tone with just one multi effect. Genius

some equipment is so rare it can retune your instrument
This was 12 years ago,nothing compared to the modeling amps that we have today.but still sounds amazing,great Job

Hi, it's not a true Marshall, it is actually a kit tube amp I built. The sound you hear from my guitar is not going through the amp anyway, it is straight digital recording from the Digitech processor. Thanks for your comments!
The Edge is a genius. Using the grit on the plastic pick to get that sound is genius.

...or he could just have used a Dunlop Tortex Sharp Guitar Pick 1.35mm and achieved the same chirpiness. Just sayin'.
@@JediCrackSmoke yeah they make different brands with grit in there. I’m saying more in general. The idea of using the grit on it to get that effect.
@@ThatOtherRaccoon but the effect IS the chirp and so why not use a pick you can play in the traditional way and still get that chirpiness from the notes? I’m not talking about “grit”, check those picks I commented on; they’re sharp tipped.
@@JediCrackSmoke I did see that they were sharp tipped but the pick I refer to is the one the Edge used. Not that I’m doubting the Tortex could produce that same gritty sound.

It's true. I should have played the intro both ways to show the difference. It's night and day.
vespworks Dude, I must have spent a good thousand dollars trying to recreate that sound. Its almost a "clucking". I had the gear, the right settings, but nothing I did sounded right at all.
Did some research and found out about those picks, and I was curious, so I kinda slashed up a thick guitar pick to give it those ridges. Soon as it hit a string I was floored. Are you in america? Do you know where to get those over here?

The tone just needs to sound thicker with a low end compression. But other wise sounds great 👍
