The official music video for Where The Streets Have No Name by U2.

Lyrics:
I wanna run, I want to hide
I wanna tear down the walls
That hold me inside.
I wanna reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name.
I wanna feel sunlight on my face.
I see the dust-cloud
Disappear without a trace.
I wanna take shelter
From the poison rain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name.
We're still building and burning down love
Burning down love.
And when I go there
I go there with you
(It's all I can do).
The city's a flood, and our love turns to rust.
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust.
I'll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name.
We're still building and burning down love
Burning down love.
And when I go there
I go there with you
(It's all I can do).
Remains one of the best music videos of all time. U2!
Cute to do a Beatles homage but NOT CUTE to cause a public safety hazard. They should have broke it up if it was not planned. Did they have a permit? Lip sync the music?
The Edge's guitar in this song is a masterpiece.
He relies on effects... Watch s sketch by the comedian Bill Bailey about him, it's really funny.
@@nigelbevan8449that’s like saying pixar relies on graphics. it’s still art. it’s an intentional technical medium to make you feel an emotion. welcome to art. enjoy.

Cop said, "Step away from The Edge," and confused the situation further.
Good one!
Step away from the Bono, er...I mean the Edge.
The old U2 joke.
Came here looking for this comment!
It was the decade where music was music. The best time to grow up and live
For those of you wondering if this really went down like this - it DID. It was all over the news, and MTV (back when they actually played music videos) aired it as well. This became the official video - and an iconic moment in the history of music.
an iconic moment in the history of mankind.
2 things...band tried to make it appear that they won the day but they admit...law won and the sign early in video say million dollar hotel inspired Bono to write a movie script and it started Mel Gibdon
why was this an iconic moment in the history of music?
@@10BlackApple Because he think so! :D
Don't forget The Beatles did this in the 60's. Its nothing new
I remember hearing Dusty Street giving the announcement on K-ROQ. I was on my way to work at Del Amo Fashion Mall. I made a quick stop to pick up a few lady friends of mine and we barely made it in time before it began. The music was so loud and clear you felt it in your chest. The sounds, the vibrations and emotions. It was the most exhilarating and electric moment of my life. Something you never forget. What a time to be alive and enjoy life as it was back then.
Wasn't Del Amo Fashion Mall where they filmed Jackie Brown?
You have photo?
Ty for sharing sounds like a great moment in time
Life in the 1980s was marked by a sense of simplicity and connection as there were no cell phones to distract from genuine human interactions. People spent their time engaging in face-to-face conversations, and the music of bands like U2 provided the perfect soundtrack to this era, captivating hearts and minds with its phenomenal melodies and lyrics, creating a lasting cultural impact.
@@ricovali1897 You're absolutely right! Cell phones did exist in the 1980s, but they were very different from the smart phones we have today. Back then, cell phones were much larger and primarily designed for voice calls, lacking the advanced features, internet connectivity, and touchscreen capabilities that define modern smart phones. It's fascinating how far technology has come since then!
are you chatGPT that escaped from server and get loose in the internet jungle?@@bmariner7319
@@ricovali1897 I think you're missing the point on a technicality. Did the technology of cell phones exist in the 1980's sure. Did EVERYONE in the 1980's possess a cell phone....NO. So, it meant people didn't go around with their heads stuck in a phone. This lead to greater connectivity with people, passer bys. It meant you had a better chance of having a conversation with a stranger then you do today.... I believe the above comment is referencing this truth and the reality of what its meant to society and the individual in general.
@@ricovali1897 In 1991 I was a personal care attendant or "PCA" for a guy who was quadriplegic. He needed an emergency phone. Under his wheel chair was a brief case that had the phone.
In 1991 there weren't cell phones that I ever saw, or if so rarely and it had a kind of stigma to own one making one look exceptional, like some wealthy upwardly mobile exec with executive privileges etc.
It for sure is a difference now as compared to then. The epitome of it was when I walked past a popular planetarium in St. Paul, MN on a beautiful summer evening. About 15 or twenty people were waiting at the front entrance, sitting on the steps or on the grass waiting for a shuttle bus. All was silent as virtually all were staring at the smartphone screens, even young couples on a date.
I have a smartphone but I use it mainly like a cell phone. I also saw a husband and wife commuting in their car. Both were concentrating on the separate conversations they were having on their smart phones. Like I've heard some say that in the is information age smart phones are like an extension of ourselves as you notice how everyone has one.
I wonder now as the Artificial Intelligence Age is upon us too and the exponential growth of that and what the future holds. I think AI should develop with as little regulation as possible as we don't know the pros it can contain, pros in unknown ways that could improve science and the quality of life. Deal with the negatives as they arise, see AI through to its fullest potential as possible. The other problem is now the military has recently developed an atomic bomb 24 times more powerful than Hiroshima and Nagasaki and is probably implementing AI or has done so long before the public knows.
I am honestly ROLMAO, every generation says this. I am laughing and waiting to see who get's it right,
Police Officer: OK, everybody back over from the edge
The Edge: huh?

For whatever reason no bands will ever try something like this again….probably nothing more than the legal issues it would cause, but if that’s the case then what the hell is up with some of the 1/2 ass so-called musicians nowadays who may happen to be caught in some illegal activity, not to mention the rest who were never caught….but apparently none of these brave souls nowadays even have the guts to try shooting a video like this was done….hmmm, I wonder why???
The greatest band that ever will be. 4 decades of continuous hits that reach deep into your soul and take you on an epic journey with some very deep and intelligent lyrics.

Remember I was taking a nap here I Copenhagen, Denmark as a teenager, when they played this single for the first time in the radio. I'm from ireland. In 1987 i met an American girl in England and brought her to ireland for a week. She left me this tape. I played it over and over knowing i would soon be reunited as she had invited me to come to Los Angeles to live with her. 6 months later i packed up and moved to Anaheim near Los Angeles to be with her. One of the most iconic moments in the history of Rock music. True legends.
Aniket Giri they just copied the Beatles 😂
True biggest moment in music history
If iconic means a prefabricated media opportunity in the guise of a spontaneous street gathering then this event was truly legendary. U2's Schtick, Ego and Artifice transcend the boundaries of Rock theater, pushing the genre's boundaries outward into the outer realms of true comedy. Gods of their own making as the Universe chuckles. A true Wizard of Oz act.

Feels like an absolute age away, would love to jump in a time machine and go back there just for a day. Michael Jackson's Bad was another epic album of that time.
This still gives me chills. Reminiscent of the '69 Beatles roof top concert. Both in my lifetime. I sure miss these guys - and, when music was full of positive energy.

The closest to heaven I've ever heard a guitar riff get. No wonder they call him the Edge. Definitely one of the greats. Bono ain't too bad either.
The opening arpeggio of Edge is great.
Bono is one of the most powerful singers in rock history
Bono is amazing at raising money for his charity. THe fact he keeps 100's of millions for his personal 'administration costs' makes him a great entrepreneur.
Wouldnt really call any part of this song a guitar riff... its mainly him just doing palm mutes and strumming up and down fast with an echo effect. He's not really great at guitar, he's great at working with effects.

When my grandfather was alive, he played this song a lot when we took drives in the summer . When he passed in 2021, I was devastated. (patternmaker ,sister), and i alberrt senteno(shipping). shut down work to watch u2 perform aboiut an hour on top of roof.it lasted aboyt 2,5 hours . they played three songs like 3 times each song, they played STREETS,HAVE NO NAME, BULLET BLUE SKY AND BAD . it was absolutely an amazing day ,. back then they were selling iout coliseum doing 2 weeks of shows 14 concerts in row. they would keep adding shows until the shows stopped selling out in twenty minuteds .then they booked long beach, aditorimn sold out like another two weeks then back to coliseum. then they split to berlin and gave birth to the fly. yes back then bono could walk on water
are you the dude in the construction hat fist pumping off the street light?
Are you f**cking serious Albert?...Honestly?
Fist pump guy is on a traffic light pole, but right next to him is a guy standing on something. Can't see what bc of the crowd, but looks Hispanic and it's possible that's Albert.
thats awesome!
Awesome story. You’re so lucky!
No law can stop the music, it is like glue for all people of the world.❤
35 years and still gives my chills to listen
Sends a shiver from your toes up.

I was few blocks away ,if I didn't have to pick up lunch that day ! It was so loud , you can feel the music echoing all the way down to 6th and Broadway.✨✨✨✨✨
I was literally about to type the same thing

I’ll admit that this isn’t my favorite song on the Joshua Tree but it has to be the best music video.
Its not what the country can do for you,,,its what you can do for your country ❤
80's MUSIC NEVER DIES !
There is bad music from every decade and then there are the classics that are celebrated for centuries.
@@purplespeckledappleeater8738 true, but "centuries"?
@Purple Sunset
Centuries? Well that's a bit of a stretch. 🙄
This is legendary! They appeal people anywhere they go, everything they do comes from their hearts! A band like U2 happens once in a lifetime!
They're not what they used to be, unfortunately.
It's universality that's still quite complex. Sublime.
Yeah, they were okay. In the 80s. Foo Fighters and their nemesis, Coldplay were alright 10-15 years ago. Make it 15.
@@cerryjowler6183 "Okay"!! LOL whatever you say.😕
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Bono is a globalist scum bag these days
I always get tears when i listen this song one of my favorites ever. I always play it and i get the same emotion ❤
What an energy you get listening to this song!!! Thank you U2!
First heard this song on the radio as a 12 year old, summer hols, no school, no cares, moved so much by the song I had to have the album, saved up my hard earned pocket money, rushed down the record shop, bought myself Joshua Tree on vinyl. 44 now and the song still speaks to me👍, Joshua Tree was U2 at there best
my dad 54 now introduced me to this song..
Mik Finders Keepers Heard this song when I was 4 years old. My father "showed" it to me when we were driving in the car and I really liked it. And when I was 6 or 7 I had been to the concert in vienna. Lol... 8 years ago... Time flies by...
Felix Zettel nice mate. I never seen them live, it's one of my biggest regrets, I had the chance to see them in early 90's at roundhey park Leeds but the dates clashed with a family holiday to Spain. I don't remember much about the holiday to Spain but I bet I would have remembered the concert 😢
Joshua Tree came out in 1987, not 1984 when you were 12 (btw, I'm also 44 yrs old).
jademm ok my bad, must av been summer 87 when I was 14. Seems like a lifetime ago, well I suppose it was.. could av sworn I was younger than 14 tho. Oh well time flies eh✌️️
