- If you've ever experienced pain during or after a ride or you know a cyclist or athlete that has experienced not-so-normal pain, you absolutely need to watch this video. No pain, no gain, right? Well, this isn't always the case. Hip and low back pain, IT band issues, or burning sensations in our pelvic region are signs that something in your body is amiss. Some pain while cycling is simply not normal, however when it affects our gonads, people have a tendency to avoid seeking treatment for it. Kelly Sammis, pelvic health expert and physical therapist from OnWard Denver Physical Therapy walks us through pelvic floor health. She teaches us what our pelvic floor does, why dysfunction arises in cyclists, common issues many endurance athletes experience, and how you can come back from injury.

As a PT this is such a good resource for my cycling patients who are hesitant to see a pelvic floor physical therapist! Thank you!
That’s so great to hear! Glad we could help.
Thank you for interviewing a PT, with expertise in pelvic floor health and treatment. Best practitioners for dealing with this condition
Absolutely, a wealth of knowledge.
this is so informative and fascinating, thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you. Great vid.
I almost had to give up riding, but after 6 months of rest I am back in a better saddle, bike fitted and a lot more comfortable. I'm barely 5' tall and bike fit and my ride position was very important.
That is so great to hear, keep after it!
I cannot thank you enough for this great video. New at cycling and being overweight I’m feeling pains all over. Feel a bit overwhelmed with all I need to adjust when I ride.
You're so welcome, keep at it!
The needle part 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
This was so informative. I’ve been dealing with what seems like an si joint issue manifesting in pain on that nerve on the perenium and my lower back, but had never heard about this before. I thought I’d gotten it managed with visits to a chiropractor and core work, but it’s come back and continues to plague my rides. Now just to find a pt as legit as this one…
So glad we could help!
Im the same thought id have to give up riding for as I haven’t ridden in 3 months and it’s killing me, now I know what the problem is hopefully physio for pelvic floor and penal and the constant need to pee will get better over time

Great info as always!
Over the past year, I've been recovering from a very painful Anal Fissure and have been learning about the pelvic floor. This really makes me wonder if poor breath and seat position contributed to this.
Glad you're on the road to recovery!
I have had penal pain for twelve months now every time I get back into bike riding what’s the story
Awesome Vid!
Thanks!
I just got into indoor cycling, but finding these issues out have made me just go running instead. Just a little worrisome. And I do enjoy indoor cycle
So what’s the answer ive had a pain free 2 weeks now the penal pains back pissing around the clock how do I address this, give up bike riding???
Would be great if there were recommendations for physios with this kind of expertise for cyclists in different areas of the country since most you go to wont have any of this info
Absolutely! Your best bet is likely calling around to your local PT’s and asking them about this specifically.
NSFW the needle part lol 😂
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Great vid
Thank you!
I know what it is. It's when I fall and my pelvis (glutes) hit the floor.
See..? 😋
😂
Wiki: "Dry needling, also known as trigger point dry needling and intramuscular stimulation, is a pseudoscientific technique used by various healthcare practitioners ...." "There is no clear evidence to support the effectiveness of dry needling. ...... not enough high-quality, long-term, and large-scale studies have been done on the technique to draw clear conclusions about its efficacy."
The professional PT in our video would disagree 🤷
Where’s James Randy when you need him.
So what’s the answer??
No
You forgot to mention fkd up bowel movements,
