I’m glad to see that you got one, friend. I hope it works out well for you. I’m gonna wait a little while and see if any bugs pop up before I grab one.
The reason I would like to upgrade my R5 to the mark II might be a little different from most people : the button interface closely ressembles the R6 Mark II and having bought that body in May and it became my favorite camera. I now prefer the button configuration of the R6II.
I was wondering if you were going to jump on the R5mk2 or stick with the mk1. Awesome! Mine arrived yesterday, got it unboxed and set up, can't wait to take my first portraits with it!! (I've only used the R6 til now)
My question is, what happened to you with the last R5, it suddenly turned from a camera into a pumpkin, cracked and fell into two parts and is no longer recoverable?
Saving up for this, stepping up from my old Nikon D3400 😂 Was a fantastic learning camera but need something that is current and has all the features I need in a pro camera to run my photography biz. Thanks for sharing John!
For anyone still struggling with the hotshoe cover, the other key is to pull up just slightly on the lens-side of the hotshoe cover as you get it started. If you're just pushing down, that front 'lip' stays stuck on the hotshoe and won't move.
Hi, have you also noticed in your copy a strange fit when the "Canon" inscription on the right and left side is clearer than in the case of Canon R5, R3, R6II?
@@JohnGress In my copy the lines are a bit more different from R6II, I don't know where this difference comes from. I was wondering if all pieces are like that.
I am surprised to see so many youtubers surprised the battery has been totally flattened for flight transport. Yeah people gonna just have to be gentle removing hotshoe cover but it still a vast improvement on it falling off constantly.
Hi Jhon. You're the man! I was wondering now that you got this camera if it would better to look for a non-fullframe one? And, you have a video I can watch it. I ask because buying a new camera in the end is spending money I don't know I should switch to non-fullframe cameras. I own R5 and I love it and always have used fullframe.
It looks like a great camera. I may of been interested if it was higher resolution but to be honest long gone are the days of dropping £4k on a camera body for me. Still I look forward to catching some of your future videos on it. Enjoy John.
I ran into the same mess with the hot shoe cover. The covers were jammed on and if they are misaligned in any way, they will stick. It really ticked me off. The kicker is that I was told that Canon was told about the hot shoe cover was problematic, but apparently did nothing. The cover is of a poor design. I am still not sure if it is getting stuck on the friction rails of the hot shoe, or it is something to do with the piece of metal that becomes a retention spring. I nearly returned the camera for a refund. I cannot imagine buying another one of these units.
It's funny, the more expensive Canon products are, the more they care about the packaging. A Viltrox lens comes in a more premium box than this Canon Egg box. $4300 should have the decency of a better experience in a premium box. Don't you agree?
My premium Amex came in amazing packaging! To photography packaging has all felt about the same, but it does feel like Canon is using more eco friendly packaging with this generation..

We shall see!
5:18 the trick to taking off the hot shoe cover is use your figure nail pull the button back not pushing down on the button.
I'll try that. Thanks!
Thank you I struggled until I saw your video for removing the hotshot cover. Finally got it off. Never, ever putting it back on again
Ha! You and me both!
Looks like you got it, enjoy!
I did! Thanksz!

oh well maybe I will have something more to look forward to then in this camera!
Same, but I wish the video photo switch was where the power button is instead.
I had to look to figure out how to turn it on.. we'll get used to it.
@@JohnGress yeah agree but shouldn't have to. Being on the right makes so much more sense as Canon would have heard when the R6ii feedback hit.
As a Canon lover this was good to watch! Thinking to upgrade my oldie too.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

Hope you enjoy it! I am about to set mine up!

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the new hot shoe.
Enjoy!! I got mine but it had dead pixels on lcd. Have to bring it back and wait for next batch next month 😣
Shame!

That will be a huge step up! Thank you!
I have a silly question. Is the turning on process of R5II much faster than R5 (when using the same memory card and same lens)? Thanks!

John...Super excited to hear your opinion on the difference of the R5 and the new R5ii :) Image quality and dynamic range?
Coming soon!

The Canon on my R5I and R5II look the same.

I hate this about the battery being flattened for flight?
@@JohnGress easy enough to set up with an old battery while new one charges eh🤘
I couldn't get the old battery to fit. I feel like I was doing something incompetent, but maybe it's a problem.
That's an awfully big grin on your face John. Patience rewarded. Happy shooting.
Ha thanks!

If you're using full frame now I would still with full frame, provided you're talking about APS-C and not MF.

Thanks! I wouldn't mind having more MPs for compositing but it seems like the MP race if over.... for now.

Yeah not the best engineering. I have never had a hot shoe cover so I think I will be ok without it.
how tall are you please reply ?
6-4/1.93m
Why ? =)
Dude just lost a fingernail trying to get hot shoe cover off 😮
lol, almost!
they say take it off and on about a dozen times, and it will loosen up. If not you can buy the R3 top that slides a lot easier :)
I didn't even notice that happening until I rewatched the video this morning! WOW LOL
If I do that anymore I am going to lose 3 finger nails!

In six months it will cost 3400 usd.
Doubt it
