Dave Pensado sits down with one of the most important figures of the recording industry, the legendary Rupert Neve. As a developer of microphone preamplifiers, equalizers and large format mixing consoles are prized and cherished throughout the industry for their incredible sound and build quality, the name "Neve" is synonymous with good sound. Also, if you have seen the movie "Sound City", Rupert is the man behind the famed 8028 console that is one of the focal points of the movie. Rupert talks about his career, what drives him to create the equipment that he does, and gives advice for the next generation of engineers. Special thanks to Vintage King and VKLA for hosting the interview in their critical listening room!
This week's ITL cover's part 2 of Dave Dissecting a mix.

Sadly Rupert Neve has passed away at the age of 94. He was so fascinated about his career as a designer that he kept on working until he took his last breath. He will be missed.

Wow: "What he's got to start with before he can even define the type of piece that he wants is to listen to the real thing, listen to music, to become acquainted with real musical sounds, the nature and character of different instruments, and of instruments playing together, so that when he comes to make his recording he can do that with some integrity because he knows what he is aiming for." That's awesome!

I was JUST thinking yesterday about how you're not supposed to meet your hero's because they never live up to your ideal, and usually destroy your love for their work and them at the same time. And yet, Rupert is a perfect example of how that's not always the case. He is who you'd think he is, and better. Just a gem of a man, and fascinating to listen to. Really something special. I know this is already 7 years old, but thank you for doing this...and everything else you do.

It's rare that any interview with any truly great person is conducted with such knowledge of the person and his subject, but this delivered!
Dave, you spoke his language, and that shone through in the ease with which Mr. Neve opened up to you.
A special American interviewed a special Englishman, what an episode!

Truly fascinating! Every time I listen to Mr. Rupert Neve talk I become entranced with his wisdom and eloquence of speech. He has such an exquisite way of taking a complicated subject and making it so easy-to-understand. Perhaps it's his humility and grace that contributes to the success of his designs.
