You should do a monthly video of you and Juno just traveling in the car, talking about audio topics. Your road trip to Spain videos are what got my sub.
The next time I instantiate a Neve plugin, I will think of of this video and smile, (yes, I know the hardware is ultimately better, but good god, the labor, complexity and amount of upkeep for analogue gear is insane - but certainly respected!)
Fantastic content, Thomas 🎉 Thank you so much for sharing. I worked on 88R consoles a bit back in Los Angeles, but mostly on an 8028 and 8038, both filled with a mix of 10xy-modules. So I know what Mark is talking about, hard to describe but two very different consoles. I also had to work sessions on SSLs and never liked the outcome tbh. The only SSL I kinda liked is the K-series. That being said I am a big fan of ADT from Germany and also was very impressed by Michael Zähl's AM1 console, also German-made. Think Porsche or Mercedes-Benz. No nonsense, no hype, but very solid and well-thought German engineering. Last but not least, it was very obvious who sold this console and I am beyond thrilled to learn that they will get a new one soon during the renovation process. Just like Sony Japan, there are still some studios that DO care about great sound 😅 Cheers ❤
It's not everyday or every year you see one of these massive mixing desks moved, I'd love to see how it's done. You can't send it by DHL so how the Dickens do you shift one & who do you get to move it? Lastly I'm into electronics, had a A&H Mod 2 desk, that was relatively complex, I'm gobsmacked at Neil's knowledge which is phenomenal.
Yeah it’s a shame i can’t use the footage from the London studio as it shows that entire process exactly! I do fully intend to also document the install at the new studio, so stay tuned for that! And there will be much more of both Mark and Neil’s knowledge in those vids!
I was lucky to work at Rockfield in the 90’s for a short while , my first job was cleaning the flying faders on the Neve VR he had bought ( 72 channel ) what a piece of kit ❤️
But what does it doooooo ?? Very curious when people are actually producing something with that thing. Also a tour of the whole studio would be appreciated.
Define standard, Did you see which brand is used? Edacs have thick gold plated pins that will last a century. All cable brands make thin cables such as these to be able to fit in the limited space, There is really nothing here that says: it's a cheap cable.
@ they look like standard conductors that I use as an electrician. Putting a brand and a price on them doesn’t change them from being a standard conductor. Maybe they are something unique… I’m simply saying it doesn’t look like it
@@W6EL Yeahhhhh said really slowly. I should have chosen my words more carefully. I should have said last great large format console still in production!?!? If I had to chose between a 60 input 80 series or a 60 input 88rs... The answer would be the 80 series.
@@neve2254e to be fair there are people that want different things out of consoles than “colored neve sound”. I’m just not one of them :-). I worked on a VR series for a while and I personally found it “nothing special”. But maybe I was missing the strengths in my usage.
I think that’s my iphones stabilization you’re seeing. My phone actually bounces up and down a lot while driving because the mount isnt super stiff. Thats why i look normal but my steering wheel bounces

Sorry to rain on your parade, but $13000 per channel. That is a barefaced lie. Those desks cost around £250,000. Really. I am British and grew up in the recording world. 13 K per channel would make those desks nearly one million pounds. And, they didn’t. Yes, the desk the Beatles used might sell at auction for that money, but no desk in any time Cost one million pounds. Don’t lie to make your videos more impressive or important. Shame on you! Shame on you! Be honest and stop lying.
There have certainly been some fully optioned 88rs that have approached $1m. Shame on you, shame on you for not doing your research before criticising.

I like Neve preamps but SSL Eqs although they are both amazing companies.
Thanks for doing these videos. This is invaluable documentation for us recording history geeks.
My pleasure! Honestly all i’m doing is just bringing a camera whenever i go somewhere cool😅
This desk is so beautiful sounding! My favorite
Good to see Neil, amazing guy!
NEIL! I was gonna call him and ask if he was involved, and up he popped! Ha! An amazing human.
Great to see stuff very few people would normally encounter.
lool do I hear some Psytrance at 15:30 in the background? Didnt expect that :D
Abby, please let him post it. He’s a great guy. It’s only great promotion for you. I hope you do.
Thank you so much for your support🙏❤️

That must’ve been an amazing experience!
This should be a cool series!
Right?! Stay tuned because you’ll see it get rebuilt, checked, shipped to the new owner and installed again!
WoW Amazing & Exclusive content 🏆💁🏾♂️
Nobody ever tells you just how much heat comes off those things.
thank you for that it s gonna be great!
a dream..... it is a bit different using a VST instead.... with true tolerances. i am interested for the quality of the capacitors.... greets
the million dollar desk
Ah Neil, he is the man. I've spent many hours lying on the floor with him in around a desk lol.
Stay tuned for more Neil on this channel later this week!
This is awesome!
Speaking of big boards, Paul McCartney’s 4056E in Amsterdam was for sale last year.
Yes, i’ve been to the studio! did the desk ever sell?
Great content! Subscribed.
Welcome!

It’s a very high end mixingconsole! Shop and studiotours you can both find on my channel!
For the people that think you need expensive cabling… those look like just standard conductors to me

The 88r is the best and probably will be the last great analog consoles ever made. Its design is truly a spare no expense design.
Informative. Thanks.
Better than a Neve 80XX with 1023 and 1072s? I don't think so! I have no doubt it got hotter and has more buttons though.

The cable management alone!!
Right?!
was that psy trance i could hear being produced in the background
Send it to my house 🙄 nice video like always 😗
I really need to reach out to Mark And get my SSl Built lol
what preamps are in the console? the same modern preamps in the 88rlb?
I doubt the preamps in the 500 series are going to sound very close to the ones in this console, but i might be wrong
That would be over kill for my needs but Hay, I don't think he'll be ever saying he can't do it because he needs just one more input.
Hmm idk, the studio he bought it from is actually upgrading to a bigger one so they might actually have said that 😂
Before you do anything get new tires and front end alignment. Lol that steering wheel is bouncing like crazy my man.

The Neve is awesome but I'm here for the cute dog!
Not made in Wales.

I wouldn’t want it even if they would give it to me for free… this is a dinosaur of the past.

dont buy a Neve , people....
Why not?!
...because an old TEAC or Yamaha desk will sound 95% the same. Nice video though!
Finally! A BTS video about the Neve 88RS of p4n0gr@ph1c proportions. Cheers. Could you get access to Ballfinger's MR-051 (aka A820)?
