My family lived three blocks away from Ritchie's house from 1957 to '61, on Telfair near Pierce. I was 7 years old and probably went to school with his sisters. I just remember the whole city seemed to be crying.

It was sometime late in 2008 or early 2009, I was at the Home Depot in North Hollywood CA, in the paint department placing/waiting on my order listening to the Doo Wop/R&B/Rock and Roll music coming from a small radio behind the counter, I commented to the clerk who was assisting me (an older gentleman) how great that type of music is to which he also agreed it was. All of a sudden a Ritchie Valens song comes on, he then proceeds to mention to me how he was a pall bearer at Ritchie Valens’ funeral. Apparently him and Ritchie had been friends, classmates and neighbors growing up here in the San Fernando Valley. Haven’t seen that fella in many years when shopping at that store, I’m sure he’s since retired being as he was already elderly then. Anyway I just thought it was an interesting story to share given the subject of this video. Coincidentally, we just buried my father at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery a week ago on 12-15-2023. Love you Pop RIP 🕊️🪦💐🙏🏼

Unfortunately now that neighborhood looks like trash times have changed I used to live in the neighborhood that looked like a fairy tale everything was beautiful The grass was well kept green and everything looks so fresh and The trees were green and spectacular I remember them days when I was about six or seven years old recently I went back to visit my old house and neighborhood back in Texas The house is still there but it just didn't look like when I was a kid growing up there The neighborhood looked like shit weeds everywhere garbage streets were all torn up I mean it was nowhere near what I imagine some 50 plus years ago it's sad because when I went back I had a lot of memories in my mom and my brothers and sisters living in that house unfortunately they're all dead now and that's all I remember to reminisce in the past is to remember where your root started where it all began and that's all I got to say it's all I can say

I was 12 and in 7th grade. Our classroom was buzzing over this terrible plane crash. Couldn't understand why any pilot would take off in that weather. What a tragic loss. I remember crying when I got home. Rest in peace.💔🌹😢🎸🎼🎵🎶

Taking off and flying in that weather isn't a big deal if you are certified to fly on instruments alone. My father in law was a pilot in WWII. He wasnt a fighter or bomber pilot but flew supply missions to India. He took us out in hus plane several times and we hit a storm one time and he had to fly on instruments alone. Let me tell you that looked as confusing as hell and I doubt I could have done it with a ton of training. Also, they say that is why JFK Jr crashed his plane. Clouds came in while he was flying so he couldn't see the stars or moon and he hit the water cause he was inverted and pulling up which would make him point down even more. Plus there is a big question surrounding about who was actually flying when they crashed. I guess Buddy Holly was well known for piloting himself instead of the hired pilot when he chartered planes. It just doesn't make sense to send out that pilot who couldn't fly on instruments and who wasn't certified for night flying either. It would make sense if Buddy Holly told the person he rented the plane from to just send the cheapest pilot they had because he would be doing the flying. That makes it all plausible. Sending that pilot to fly famous musicians on that night made zero sense. He would have known he was setting himself up for a massive lawsuit if anything happened. I'm sure if that was the case that he didn't come out with the story because I highly doubt their insurance company would cover the lawsuits if Holly was actually flying and he knew he was going to. You see now that is what a conspiracy theory should look like. It should make sense and be actually plausible. Not like some of the crap that goes around today. Like Hugo Chavez (who had been dead for 5 years) worked with Cuba and Spain to change votes from Trump to Biden. See how that doesn't make sense at all?

I went to Bishop Alemany High School on Rinaldi Street in Mission Hills. Oh Donna was always played at dances there. They knocked it down after quake damage and rebuilt it closer to the Mission. My grandparents are buried near Ritchie. We were at Pacific Ocean Park the time Ritchie was playing there. They built Pacoima Lutheran Memorial Hospital a few years after the DC-7 parts crashed into his Junior High School. The burn victims didn't have enough nearby Emergency Room places to get treatment and a new hospital was badly needed. My mom was Head Nurse over there. A quake wrecked the hospital and they had to demolish it. The earlier Sylmar quake of February 9th, 1971 scared me to death and changed the way I live forevermore, always prepared.

I was about 6 years old when my parents took my brother and I to Pacific Ocean Park. Ritchie was playing there. There was a crowd of teens crowded to get into the area where he would be playing. Some were rough and pushy so my parents went around to avoid the crowd and we went to the Diving Bell ride. After his plane crash, my parents remembered the day we went to P.O.P. and asked us if we recalled that Ritchie Valens was there. My brother and I both said yes. P.O.P. was the most awesome amusement park with Under the Sea theme. It's gone, then Marineland took its place for years, now it's all townhouses. I often play Ritchie's songs on Bluetooth in my car. My high school in Mission Hills was about a mile from where Ritchie and his mom and my gramma and grandpa are buried. Oh Donna was always played at our dances. Thanks for remembering him.

I do believe there's footage of the backyard were someone was filming, kid's playing, people dancing i assumed that was the party before he went on that tour, kinda cool but cruel at the same time, pictures and cameras are bitter sweet, sweet to freeze time for that moment, yet bitter when those individuals are no longer with us, thx for sharing this

he was the Hispanic Elvis and had a bright future. I always wondered how big stars had to fly on a puddle jumper instead of a bigger plane. Buddy and Ritchie were early in their careers when crummy buses and little planes were common back then. It was nice to see his house, and how his fame was going to set up his family quite well after humble beginnings.Do you know if his mother received a settlement from the record company or the airline company?
