Agreed. Am hoping the series starts to gain more views. Whenever I play a new game there are so many more granular elements and details that I wish were covered in reviews but aren't due to time constraints, and this series does a good job off covering those things.
Yep, I agree. It’s changed the way I’m playing Horizon forbidden west. I usually play open world games by opening the map, picking a destination, then fast traveling as close as possible and sprinting straight to it. Walking the walk videos have made me take my time to walk around spaces and appreciate all the tiny details in the world.

I don't watch many reviewers to be honest. I stumbled upon your channel once when I was on the fence about something. I always do my own research and base my purchases off that. I'm glad I found this channel, hell I find myself watching reviews for games I don't even plan to play just because of your wit and no bullshit reviews. You are the Gold Standard when it comes to review channels in my opinion. Keep it up man. I look forward to watching this, even though I already made my purchase ages ago.
I've literally been as excited for this review to come out as the game itself!! Lol Would love to see a Walking the walk too! The Dying Light 2 walking the walk actually got me more into the game and helped me look for things I normally wouldn't have and had a fantastic experience!
As someone who started following FromSoftware back on PS3 with Demons Souls, this game is one of my top 5s of all time. And zero performance issues for me on PS5.
This may be the best month in gaming history. Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Dying Light, Cyberpunk 1.5, Ollie Ollie World, Sifu. Out of all those games I choose this and it's a really tough choice.
Hey, ACG. I loved the depth of this review. I agreed with the majority of what you said, though there was something I wanted to point out. You mentioned the game not giving you any sort of indication as to whether or not you've visited a location, need to return to a location, etc. This isn't actually an issue because the map allows you to place several different types of markers, allowing you to annotate your map. I use these to mark bosses I still need to fight, puzzles I've yet to solve, good areas to grind souls, etc.
@jarlwhiterun7478 he means runes. They were called souls in the dark souls games so he's using that terminology out of habit, but they're called runes in elden ring
The wagon being pulled by giants reminds me of Dragnipur from Erickson's books. Very cool and definitely makes you wonder how big the baddie is that enslaved them.
I would just like to say how much I appreciate your reviews. There have been times where I disagree with your opinions but I never feel like I've been misinformed about anything. You provide so much information that 99% of the time I know whether or not I'll be interested in getting the game afterwards, even if I end up liking something you didn't or vice versa. You do fantastic work and this video is no exception. Thank you.
A thoroughly entertaining review. I must admit I do tend to skip ahead for titles that I'm less interested in - but when it comes to a game on my wishlist? 30 minutes comes and goes in the blink of an eye. No doubt that ACG is the gold standard. Love your work.
What does it say that I love watching your reviews even for games I’m currently playing or already played? After 200 hours getting my platinum and all dlc trophies in AC Odyssey I still watched your review several times for it. I expect that will apply here too. Thank you for all your amazing work!! LONG LIVE ACG!!!
I'll watch that after I'm done with the game, I somehow managed to avoid any leaks and spoilers for almost 3 years. I know its a great review as always!
If only I found the souls like combat fun.. which is the whole motivation of this game. I hope the loading screen between deaths is shorter, it's immersion breaking
@@DeathComeInPeace DMC 5 is very tight. Bayonetta. Even nioh was better than souls. Ghost of Tsushima had very tight sword play as well, on lethal difficulty you die within two hits. Haven't played sifu yet but heard that it's exceptional as well. Edit: forgot sekiro, the masterpiece that, that game is
So I'm thinking of starting with the prisoner now that I know The Bloody Wolf was a Playtest preset but I don't know. The confessor and vagabond seem awesome as well. I am so excited to just get into this game! Such an interesting and compelling world I know we all will be talking about so much in the years to come.
I was really hoping because the developers were flaunting GRRM that this would perhaps have a deep story. But if it did, ACG would have said something a little more about it. For someone whose main turn off from DS is the lack of constant narrative, I may as well take this as "It's Dark Souls... but big." Shouldn't have expected otherwise. Guess I'm stuck with Nioh (which isn't even FS) and Sekiro. Note: I LOVE DS gameplay. But I'm sorry. I DO get bored of games with very few cutscenes.
Strange take honestly but I respect it. Personally, I would rather piece together the lore myself than have it spoon-fed to me. Well I hope you can enjoy it nonetheless!
@@lollyguy1266 'Spoon-fed' is a bad word for what I think they're describing. I think they're more referring to the ability to play a game and be pulled into an active narrative. If I were to make a guess, it sounds like it would be like Red Dead Redemption 2 versus Dark Souls. Red Dead has a clearly defined story and the world has lore sprinkled around that you can find if you so choose, while Dark Souls has a story that is more shrouded in mystery where the lore you must (in many cases) actively look for is very important to filling in the blanks. Both are great games and provide satisfaction to the player when they experience it, but they go about it in very different ways.
This game coming out this good is a W gamers need right now. Really enjoying Lost Ark, God of War, and Dying Light 2 on PC, all this year! 2022 looking RIGHT!!!
The art direction of this game is very difficult for me to describe. It looks like a mix between the medieval aspects of Dark Souls with the most bright, pleasant, heavenly looking hellscape, and a slight hint of Valheim.
I'm sorry, those sound effects you played for the example are freakin' hilarious. Whenever you slash something it sounds like someone slopping a 5-gallon bucket of water onto a concrete driveway being recorded with the microphone in a metal trash can. SPLOOOSH!
Great video. I was on the fence on buying this but when I hear you talk about it I once again realize I just don't like souls games. Even if they look cool and interesting, gameplay still aren't something that I'd enjoy. Thanks for saving me a buy ACG. Enjoy Elden Ring everyone.
If you've ever played *Dragons Dogma,* you should like this as it feels like a more forgiving *Dark Souls,* with *Dragons Dogma* elements thrown in to make a fantastic game.
Wretch is what I’m planning to start with. Not my usual choice here, but something about an open world where I have to scavenge and use the gear I happen to stumble upon rather than start with, seems very appealing!
@M M Yeah they said they're working on it so we'll see. Doesn't affect me cause I play on ps5 and it runs great but I feel bad for the PC users. Hope that gets sorted out for ya man!
Another weird thing... Elden ring has a ''RayTracingQuality'' setting in its Graphics config file, which is standard set to ''low-mid-high-ultra'' dependin on what baseline you've chosen. Another weird thing is that my PC seems to run the game itself fine 1440p high (3700x, 16gb ram, 3060ti) at 60fps, outside of the weird stutters in the overworld when traversing, mostly.
All souls games have their issues, I don't think anyone was expecting a completely flawless experience if you're familiar with fromsoft games. Looking forward to playing it tomorrow!
Yeah I'd agree...I think ALOT are seeing it as the next coming. I personally am not looking forward to this tbh, but it's coming rn thru gamefly...so I'm gunna give it at least a fair shake. Never enjoyed soulsborne games...but still at least try each one.
@@Ice9kills78 not to Be that guy but of you played every soulsborne game and didint enjoy them pretty sure you could have been sure about not liking them after max 2

yeah i do want the walking the walk! when I saw you had your review out I closed the gaming bolt one so fast they couldnt even produce a "final verdict" for some other game that hasnt even dropped yet (i preordered in december, glad theres no bad surprises here)
This is one of the very very few reviews I will watch for this game. Most reviewers will certainly try to cram as many hyperbolic superlatives as possible into their reviews to sell gamers on this title. I like souls-like games and have played many. Strangely, my favorite one is the Demon's Souls Remake! Bluepoint managed to deliver smooth gameplay for the great game world Fromsoft never bothered to achieve. I'll wait until I know if Fromsoft didn't deliver once more a technically sub-par realization of a great idea. This is another review very much worth watching because it manages all the things the game does very well, as well as things that are not great or downright bad. Thanks!
What do you mean From never bothered to achieve, you act like the PS3 could deliver 60 fps.... Get outta here with that... Demons Souls was amazing on the PS3.
another update Rating moved to wait. Since I was not officially ever informed of any patch coming and in fact it was stressed that the patch I had was the review code. I am comfortable with THAT score. However the new patch as made performance widely worse. So I am changing the review to a wait, the addendum video can also be seen on the other post. The game is good but this patch borks a ton.
I love that they're still using essentially the same audio feedback for enemy hits and kills as they were in Demon's/DS1. The series/formula is progressing and moving forward, but there is still enough nostalgia to keep it grounded in "this is a Soulsborne title". I finally pre-ordered it today; held off just in case there was a CDPR 2077 "surprise", but would have been shocked if this wasn't amazing. Been waiting for this game since DS3 (didn't care for Sekiro) so this will be the game of the decade for me thus far. Finally, a Soulsborne gets released! Already know I'll have well over 1000hr into this game, just like every other Soulsborne released.
Another great review, Karak! So far, I've loved both yours and Skillup's review, but noticed that neither of you referred to the console performance, where normally, both of you bring that up. As a PS5 gamer, is this something I should be concerned with?
wow your reviews never cease to anaze me i will definitely be picking this up friday i always wished dark souls had a bit more wiggle room sometimes the fights are so confined this open world opens up new opportunities
Just wanted to say thank you for your reviews. When it comes to games I'm interested in you're the first content creator I look to for a review and it's been that way for years, but I only just noticed that today. Good stuff man.
Such a great and honest in depth review. This game will be challenging but I think also very rewarding. Cant wait to give it a try. Thank for the review ACG!
Oh man, it’s officially less than 24 hours left till we can start playing it. I just cannot believe it’s finally here. It’s so surreal. Feels like just yesterday we knew nothing about this game, then next we were getting the reveal trailer and BOOM…now it’s release time. Words can’t express the sheer excitement and joy I’m feeling. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve night and not many things bring me those types of feelings anymore. Im savoring every moment of this and discovering the Lands Between for the first time. See you all there! Have fun!
As someone who is simply below average at video games I've never been intrigued by Souls-like games. Something made to be punishing is usually just impossible for me haha. I may end up playing it one day but for now it's being pushed to the bottom of my backlog. If anyone has a reason to think I'll love it, I'll definitely listen.
@Far Stox I mean yeah, same thing really. I don't mean punishing in the negative sense, I definitely see the appeal. Amd correct me if need be, but you're basically playing a memory game of the opponents actions right? Like it's not like learning the fight system is hard, you're just memorizing the opponent? Which i def see the appeal, just don't know if it's for me.
Atmosphere looks absolutely amazing. Bloodborne is still prettty much unmatched in that regard. i just hope they fix the stuttering, i can see it from here. currently a 97 on metacritic BTW
With all the great games launching this year, this is my most highly anticipated Game of The Year. I'm glad it looks like a really good game and is receiving a lot of praise in reviews.
One thing I've not heard any reviewer say is how this is (despite it's excellence) a reskinned dark souls.. close your eyes and look at almost any screenshot of gameplay and it could have been DS4.. FROM need to try harder to differentiate the look and feel of the UI and things like that so that their games don't blend into one amorphous mass. EDIT: Actually ACG touches on this a little, I should have known better
Still watching but awesome review !! I think this would be an ideal game for a walking the walk video, might be difficult making it to certain locations though lol! A few suggestions for a walking the walk: -Cyberpunk 2077 (this is my #1 honestly, although there are many bugs, it is such an immersive world with a ridiculous amount of detail) -Skyrim -Red Dead Redemption 2 -Stalker -Batman Arkham series -Fallout 4/New Vegas Been a viewer for many years, thank you for all the amazing content.
like most of us I have been beaten into the ground with shattered expectations around games the last few years. So i tried to temper all excited about this title; your fantastic review and others I’ve read has given me the green light to be STOKED AF. Thanks for doing your thing. Cheers!
Dude, once again, amazing review! You continuously show how a game review should be done, wether I agree with you or not! Keep up the amazing work! Ps. Just finished Dar Souls for the first time and I’ll start bloodborne now! Can not wait to play elden ring next!
I absolutely love Sekiro but I’m not keen on Bloodborne or Dark Souls series - so I’m not too sure if I’ll enjoy this one but the game sure as hell looks beautiful
2:33: Those enemies totally remind me of Nitropedes from Illusion of Gaia's Sky Garden. I'd be a bit disappointed if, when they die, they don't chuck their orbs into the air like flying grenades.
Only complaint I’d have is the UI has been the same for years.sort of makes me feel like all I’m playing is DLC which I get people will stand by it and say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but with all the innovation in the gaming world now I’d figure that something like UI would be looked at as well. Like vidual representstilns of UI elements on the player character would feel more immersive such as the estud flask having different variations of colors for how much used are left. Two sets of weapons always shown on character as to see what weapons you can switch to and from in current load out. Idk
Crazy how you can power thru the depths, breadth, and stress of Horizon + Elden and still write fantastic witty reviews of proper detail and length. What a champ
I love ACG reviews. Probably the reviewer I trust the most. My one request is maybe have the reviews chaptered when you scrub forward like you see in other YT vids. I usually skip the audio and music segment, and sometimes the performance segment too. Graphics, gameplay, fun factor are usually my main criteria.
As always, what a freakin awesome review - on point, covers all angles and does it well, damn, you`re good a this! Would you say this one does better than the other FS in making a range/magical build truly viable ? Sorcery/Prayers were a massive disappointment in DS3.
Awesome review, I ended up purchasing the game and love it a ton, but I wanted to say that the "Error" You had with the game displaying the gamepad inputs instead of the keyboard inputs isn't actually an error and you can switch between the displayed inputs in the settings. To change the on-screen display: System > Device And Display > 8 rows down you'll see "Device For On-Screen Prompts" You can switch it from Gamepad to Mouse and Keyboard. Hope this helps anyone who might be struggling with the input displays, I certainly did and ended up switching to gamepad before seeing this in the settings. I think it'd have been a good idea to at least ask players which input they prefer when they're calibrating brightness and things at the start. Anyways, good luck, Tarnished!
First game I pre-ordered in years. Saw SkillUp's review and took advantage of his GMG discount code..ngl felt a little dirty for doing it....but its out tomorrow and I knew I was gonna buy it, so I figured I may as well preload it...Elden Ring looks like it could supplant Skyrim as the standard by which all others are measured...although I doubt it will ever come close to replacing Skyrim as king of the re-release....
Everybody is going to spend the first many hours just exploring and taking in the beautiful sceneries, until we get curb stomped by a mob, who we had no business engaging with in area we had business venturing into lol
At 44 my life might be lonely and terrible, no family or friends, no legacy or body of work and a long trail of unfinished projects and artistic endeavors, but I can always count on Miyazaki to rescue me from the grasp of dark suicidal thoughts.
I can't really decide if this game sounds fun or just tedious. For every neat thing I hear about it there seems to be another that's just kinda groan inducing.
I remember a time when the gaming community wasn't tainted. Now everyone is a gamer. Maybe find another outlet you'll truly enjoy or dedicate yourself to a more noble pursuit
Fun fact: You can change your appearance as soon as you reach the Hub Area that is unlocked after finding only 3 fast travel points. There is a mirror in the hug lady's room. It lets you change your appearance.

You are the Gold Standard when it comes to review channels in my opinion. Keep it up man. I look forward to watching this, even though I already made my purchase ages ago.
I've seen this exact comment from you on dozens of other channels.
Lmao you must’ve been born in the past 5 years
Horizon is all I like
Where are souls in this game? I've spent hundreds of hours and never heard of souls.
Dragnipur is such a cool concept
I'm so happy others saw that!
That's exactly my issue with FromSoft games. They never move past "cool concept."
In Russia wagons pull giants.
you sir have good taste
Anyone running through the comments. Stop and buy the game now there is no world where u regret your purchase

FromSoft made the right choice giving ACG an early copy! Hell yes
Same, that's why I just listen to the reviews not watch the video
I only wish I had your restraint! Enjoy the game!
If only I found the souls like combat fun.. which is the whole motivation of this game. I hope the loading screen between deaths is shorter, it's immersion breaking
@@SocietyKilledTheUnicorn What other game's combat do you find fun?
@@DeathComeInPeace DMC 5 is very tight. Bayonetta. Even nioh was better than souls. Ghost of Tsushima had very tight sword play as well, on lethal difficulty you die within two hits.

I appreciate you updating the title after the patch. Most channels would just leave it as is.

Wha-? The amount of cutscenes has an influence on your opinion of a game? Thats….thats a new one.
Weird take ngl but respectable

@Seth Taylor as far as I know no you can't remove the compass.
You can attach through walls like enemies. Always could. Though for many weapons, jumping attacks are the only consistent way to do so
I can’t seem to get hits consistently. It’s like I need to start swinging my sword 5feet before the enemy
Wretch is what I’m planning to start with. Not my usual choice here, but something about an open world where I have to scavenge and use the gear I happen to stumble upon rather than start with, seems very appealing!
You have just given me the best reason to do this!

@M M Yeah they said they're working on it so we'll see. Doesn't affect me cause I play on ps5 and it runs great but I feel bad for the PC users. Hope that gets sorted out for ya man!
@M M As an entrenched fan boy of the souls series... I have to agree.
Trash
Actually i think some people ARE expecting a flawless experience
Yeah I'd agree...I think ALOT are seeing it as the next coming. I personally am not looking forward to this tbh, but it's coming rn thru gamefly...so I'm gunna give it at least a fair shake. Never enjoyed soulsborne games...but still at least try each one.

Can't wait to experience this. Another amazing review. As always, my main source of reviews.
Already got it preloaded on my series x. Unlocks 9pm pst. Only a few hours to go!
This was the review that I've been waiting for. Please keep the reviews coming + walking the walk videos! Peace and take care.
another update
Rating moved to wait.
Forgot to pin this
I guess it's a buy now
There is an option to show keyboard shortcuts vs controller shortcuts.
You have to select it to change it.

23:02 hahahaha, don't think I didn't notice you cutting away from getting absolutely clapped by that revenant spawn.
I am also below average :) I've just got the game and I'll let you know if I think its worth a try!

A few suggestions for a walking the walk:
-Cyberpunk 2077 (this is my #1 honestly, although there are many bugs, it is such an immersive world with a ridiculous amount of detail)
-Skyrim
-Red Dead Redemption 2
-Stalker
-Batman Arkham series
-Fallout 4/New Vegas

I absolutely love Sekiro but I’m not keen on Bloodborne or Dark Souls series - so I’m not too sure if I’ll enjoy this one but the game sure as hell looks beautiful
Whaaaat bloodborne is the 🐐
2:33: Those enemies totally remind me of Nitropedes from Illusion of Gaia's Sky Garden.
Idk
It bums me out that acg doesn't have 1 million subs yet because that dude deserves it

And thats another reason i love ACG. Is that his reviews are categorized like that.

To change the on-screen display:
System > Device And Display > 8 rows down you'll see "Device For On-Screen Prompts" You can switch it from Gamepad to Mouse and Keyboard.
I waited for the sale, I just got it today
Every boss enemy is every Fromsoft game has a deep lore behind them. I’d be amazed if 100+ bosses all had the same degree of lore behind them.
