An interesting contrast to Miquella who, although capable of inspiring genuine loyalty in some people like Leda, usually resorts to his charming powers to compel loyalty whereas Messmer, despite his cursed nature and dreaded reputation, is able to inspire genuine loyalty from many people around him, even abandoning their royal titles and birthrights just to serve him.
The fact that the one next in line as HEIRESS TO THE FUCKING CARIAN DYNASTY abandoned her birthright to follow him to the Land of Shadows shows that either Messmer is so charismatic as a leader or that Rellana is really just that down bad. And considering that entire battalions of knights and soldiers followed him there as well shows that it was the former. Although I'm also pretty sure Rellana is just that down bad. @@kneeofjustice9619 only by law and not by blood. They have no consanguineal connection, after all. As far as I'm concerned, that's significantly better than straight up banging a blood-relation.
It’s fascinating to learn all these different things about Messmer’s crusade, that his elites weren’t just soldiers and guards, but they were also his friends in a way.
About Wego: I dont think the ither knights are his followers. Rather that they are ilusions, akin to what Morgott did with the two Margits. I take this from two things. 1: They dont drop anything. Unlike the other fire knights, and 2: theyre bodies vanish upon death. Not like the other elite fire knights who vanish in a cloud of smoke, but just vanish. They lay on the floor for a time, and then their corpses dissapear. This is unlike any other fire knight in the game. So thats my opinion about that.
Man the description of the crusade insignia hits different after making the Shaman Village/Jar Inard connection. Those knights were probably told why the hornsent should burn.
On a side note… What’s crazy is how many people don’t realize that the symbol and placements of snakes are actually the missing piece of the big question of Marika. The thing she took the golden strains from was an abyssal serpent. Hence why she was so scared of it in her son, she wasn’t locking Mesmer away, she was locking away what he had inside him. I believe that another one of her children knew this truth, and allowed himself to be consumed by another abyssal serpent and merged with it.
Something I noticed about all the fire nights is that half of their face is exposed from their helmet and unlike every other lesser soldier in the lands between (even Messmers) their skin isn’t as gray and old as all the others. It’s fully white and just looks like normal skin. I don’t really have an explanation for this.
I think the ancient ruins defended by Salza were the ancient ruins of Rauh, not only do they share the same descriptor of ancient ruins Salza defends the route to Rauh which happens to be the only hornsent settlement not be completely destroyed.
Rykard would have loved to become one with Messmer through devouring him with the god eating snake. And I mean shit the god eating snake with the dark abyssal snake would make unreal amounts of power.
Absolutely love the Fire Knights and Curseblades. I feel like in terms of faction knights these guys are up there with the Crucible Knights in terms of feeling fleshed out. I have a lot of respect for Salza and I even respecced to faith to honor his memory with his incantation.
The lore of the Order Healing incantation reminds me of Salza. Here it is: “The noble Goldmask lamented what had become of the hunters. How easy it is for learning and learnedness to be reduced to the ravings of fanatics; all the good and the great wanted, in their foolishness, was an absolute evil to contend with. Does such a notion exist in the fundamentals of Order?” The answer is that no, it does not. Goldmask, ever wise, may have known the true nature of Messmer’s crusade and likened his own Golden Order’s zeal to them. Convincingly, Golden Order incantations require both faith and intelligence, whereas Messmer Fire incantations only require faith. I don’t think it was a coincidence that Salza’s Hood increases intelligence, or that he was swayed by Hilde’s convictions about sparing the specimens.
I forgot how in-depth the game went with these people. Their armor would have been cooler for me if it didn't clash with the gold on everything I used. On an unrelated note, I think your description lists Wego twice. Poor bowl-cut man, always derided.

Great video nonetheless! The Fire Knights are definitely my favourite faction in Elden Ring now, with Carians (who were my favourite prior to the DLC) now being second. Great to see the Fire Knights getting some proper coverage.
is there gonna be a video specifically on what the abyssal serpent is? Is it another god trying to take over a demigod like the rot god and melania? Is it a god from far away granting power like the formless mother, or another thing entirely
The only thing scarier than fire knights are those god damned divine beast head hornsent warriors. There are only 3, and 1 doesn't even respawn and i hate them all. Revenants and shrimpmare now 3rd and 4th respectively.
I've done a bunch of research on them already because this was originally going to be a much larger video and from what I've seen they don't seem to have any size to maliketh aside from the black motif

Interestingly the only lore connecting Messmer to anyone in his demigod family outside of Marika and Melina is related to Radahn. There's no mention of a connection to Rykard at all, but if we consider that he had a brotherly relationship to Radahn, it would make sense that Rykard would look up to him as well.

I believe that's one possibility due to his relationship with Hilde. At the end of the video I call out the other possibility that it's actually the Rauh ruins
Messmer and Melina were almost definitely born before Marika and Godfrey were together, before she appointed an Elden Lord. It's too much to get into on a comment but there are multiple videos getting into this timeline out there.
