Because he will catch one and he can withstand a few seconds bites as they also bite to get away. But the hyena that gets caught well for that short time. The lion might break its neck or back.

True to a point but the 100lb female has a gun & hopefully is well trained. Thats the problem. Its the training not the woman. (I'm sure there are exceptions) My son is active army. They have females of course & they really dont have an issue with 99% of them. They do the same drills same exercises. OBS not as strong but they have other skill sets. Patience, accuracy, detailed, FAST & ironically are being trained in getting into spaces my 6'4 240lb son could not. Combat engineers use explosives & large equipment & smaller hands and fingers can be useful so lets not generalize too much.
I remember watching a video years ago of about 30 Hyenas attacking a couple of Lionesses and stole there buffalo kill and where viciously mauling them then all of a sudden out of nowhere a nearby herd of Elephants formed a huge Grey Wall and in into shot come a massive Nomadic Male Lion it hit the Hyenas like a Bowling Ball hitting skittles the Hyenas went flying everywhere and scattered in all directions howling in fear that Male Lion turned out to be Makhulu in his prime and his 5 siblings weren't far behind him the next night they would claim their first territory and the rest is history.
