Galadriel can see people’s true nature, and as one of the oldest beings in Middle Earth, she knows the effect the ring has on people.
The scene showed her resisting the temptation of the ring, as well as warning Frodo of the effect the ring will have on the fellowship, like it was already with Boromir.

      @Pip8448 3 роки тому +8

Bilbo jump scare is THE scariest scene in this movie.
You let your guard down because you're in a safe place with wise, powerful, and familiar people. Yeah Bilbo was getting corrupted, but he successfully left the Ring in the Shire before and seemed to be healing from baring the Ring for that long. Plus he's so happy to see his nephew and is in the middle of giving him gifts to help on a long adventure, Something they had always bonded over. Bilbo was raising Frodo and had always been (from Frodo's perspective) a pillar of strength and safety.
If it wasn't for Gandalf's warnings and the history he recently was reminded of about the Ring, Frodo may not have even tried to cover it back up.
I personally can not imagine being attacked by my dad. :(
I'm really glad She commented on hoe Bilbo was ashamed of his actions and sorry for the burden he has placed on his own nephew (son).

@@pilarslittlestudio Oh YES! You must watch the extended edition! First, you get more of the wonderful story and second you get MORE of everything! :D Every movie in the trilogy have 30-40 minutes added but you don't feel that they are longer, you just immerse in the story and crave more! The pacing of the films is slowed down a bit, but it all makes more sense. If they should film the complete story it would probably be several hours longer if everything was kept in it because there's so much details and goings on in it but P.J. and crew did a very good job adapting it to just three movies. And mostly that they kept with the original story and didn't add so much own stuff as you see in many other movies based on books. Things like that could ruin everything if handled badly of if money talks to much...

FYI - Galadriel of Lothlorien is one of the most powerful elven beings in Middle Earth. She came over from the Undying Lands in the Uttermost West with Feanor right at the beginning of Middle Earth as they were in pursuit of Morgoth (of whom Sauron, the big baddie in LOTR, was but a servant!) to get back the the holy Silmarils that Feanor had created. The Silmarils shone with the light of the Two Trees, which was the light source for the Undying Lands before the Trees were poisoned and killed by Morgoth and Ungoliant. For doing so, she was banished by the Valar (the gods) from ever returning West. However, because of her unending good works to help the Free Peoples of Middle-Earth against both Morgoth and later Sauron over the ages, and for NOT taking the One Ring from Frodo when it was offered to her, she was finally granted permission to return to the Uttermost West. That’s why she says, “I pass the test. I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel.”

Hi! New sub here!! This is the best trilogy ever created. You re gonna enjoy the next two movies as well for sure!! Now I will answer some of the questions you had during the film, NO spoilers don t worry. Ok at min 6:06 in you re first part, you asked if the actor who played as Gandlaf is the same actor who played as Magneto in X-men, Yes , Ian McKellen was also Magneto in X-men. Well, great actor - great roles, it normal! Ok for you re second question " Why is Frodo s sword blue" ..The answer to this question was said by bilbo when he gave him the sword before he gave him the mithril vest. He told Frodo that the sword starts to glow when the orcs approach, that's why the sword started glowing before the battles, because the orcs were nearby. And now about Galadriel scene, you said that you did not understand that scene, well if you remember when Frodo wanted to give the ring to Gandalf, Gandalf said " Don’t tempt me.....through me, it would wield a power too great and terrible to imagine" and that is the reason Galandriel reacted that way, because she was tempted by the ring, but she manage to resist and that s why she said "I have passed the test". Now i have a sugestion for you, pls watch the extended edition for the next two movies "The two towers" and "The return of the king". If you re going to watch the theatrical version you re gonna lose important scenes of the story. Basically the theatrical version of the trilogy leaves some scenes from the films unfinished, and because of this many people who reacted to Lotr but did not choose the Extended edition started asking questions at the end of the films because they didn't see what happened to some characters or didn t understand the outcome of some scenes. LOTR is incomplete in theatrical version, so pls watch the extended version for the next two movies!!!
Edit: Thank you very much for the subtitles!!!

the "Celtic" influence you sense is because of the story itself, Tolkien was a Professor of Languages, the WHOLE reason he wrote the LoTR is because he was "inventing" the Elvish language and needed some "historical" context for it, and Tolkien was VERY steeped in Celtic lore and History, for more see "Farmer Giles of Ham" or "The Smith of Wooten Major" as they are shorter tales by JRR Tolkien that delve more into his "celtic" influences

A lot of people probably see "Celtic" content in a lot of different things when there isn't any for precisely this reason.

IIRC the elvish language we hear in the movies is Sindarin which was mainly inspired by Welsh, and Old English and Old Norse as secondary. Tolkien also created Quenya and used Finnish as main inspiration. The cultures of the races I think were inspired by old Germanic tribes, Norse and Anglo-Saxons in perticular. The pantheon is very much it's own thing but undoubtedly inspired by old Greek/Roman mythology but even Christianity. Much like the Greek pantheon with several gods with personified represenations but also the Christian one creator god with his angels, one which falls.
I think it's Enya that gives the Celtic vibes with the music.

Quite right! More specifically, Tolkien wanted to create for modern Britain a folklore more or less equivalent to Arthurian legend and the role it played for medieval Britain. The Celtic influences make a lot of sense in that regard as well, as many regard Arthurian legend as a hope for a return to a Celtic Britain after the invasions of, first, the Romans, and then the Angles and the Saxons.

Professor Tolkien, who wrote the LOTR, The Hobbit, and several other works was a professor of Philology at Oxford University. Philology is the study of language from oral and written historical sources. As such he created the Elvish, Dwarvish, and other languages of Middle Earth and wrote the story around the languages he had created. One of the reasons that you feel a strong Celtic influence is that of the two Elvin languages he created one was Quenya based on Welsh, one of the five Celtic countries (Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, and Brittany). The other, Sindarin was based on Finnish. J.R.R. Tolkien had served as an officer in the English Army in France during WW I. His experiences of this conflict had a huge impact on his life where he had lost many of his closest personal friends. It was in the trenches of that war where he began writing LOTR. He also was so impressed by the loyalty of the common soldiers around him, one of whom was assigned to any young Officer as an aid, that he reflected the dedication that he had received in the character of Sam in Sam's dedication and loyalty to Frodo. Sams's full name "Samwise" means "half wise" in Old English, which is wise in common sense rather than in "book" learning.
Very sweet reaction BTW. Keep going!

I've read and loved the books since I was in high school (grandma now) One of the things the Ring does is tempt people to use it, and GAladriel is deeply tempted. She knows that any good she would do with the ring would ultimately turn to evil because it was created by evil and corrupts all who have it. Nevertheless, It takes a lot of willpower for her to refuse it and "remain Galadriel" and fade (because the time of the elves is fading and they are leaving Middle Earth). But she does refuse it, and Frodo learnes even more strongly the danger the ring poses to others. He himself feels the temptation to use the ring too, see how reluctant he was to show it to Bilbo or the council of Elrond. But as a hobbit, a person who's character does not desire power, the ring is slower to corrupt him--which is one reason he is "chosen" to take the ring to the fire. I hope you watch the second and third movies and share your reactions--they were delightful and brought back memories of when I watched them for the first time 20 years ago.

You are the first reacter (reactor?) that I have watched to comment at length on the music, bless your sweet soul. Howard Shore, the composer/arranger/conductor, is not as widely known, but he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with John Williams for quality of music.
The Lord of the Rings was first published in three volumes, from which the three movies take their titles, in 1954-1955. J. R. R. Tolkien was born in the Orange Free State (now South Africa) of English parents and moved back to England at the age of three. He served in the English Army in France as a lieutenant during World War I. He became a professor of Anglo-Saxon and later English language and literature at Pembroke College and Merton College in Oxford. He invented to related languages which later became the Elvish Quenya and Sindarin languages plus others, although these were not developed as fully. Then needing somewhere for these languages to exist, he spent much the remainder of his life 'sub-creating' what has come to be known as his Legendarium of which The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are but two parts of the greater tapestry. As wonderful as Peter Jackson's films are, I highly recommend reading the books, also.

    Yay Aragorn love!
I think he is the best. Aragorn is kind and caring, decisive, he has self-doubts but slowly overcomes them. He's not afraid to show that he loves his friends or his fiancee/lover/girlfriend, he forgives Boromir, he helps Frodo where he can and lets him go on his own when he must. He's not like, super macho/braggy, but he is very capable when it comes down to it. I think he's basically the perfect man.

    • @dweezleboss
      @dweezleboss 3 роки тому +2

For the record, in the books, Aragorn does not doubt himself, although he is not arrogant or anything--he is the true heir of Isildur and it is his right and duty to do all he can to protect Gondor and Arnor. Additionally, the price Elrond demands for Arwen's hand in marriage is that Aragorn must be the King of Gondor. For nothing less will Elrond part with his daughter--she gives up her Elvish immortality to be with Aragorn and so there is no reunion after death--because Elves don't "really" die. He was raised in Rivendell and looks to Elrond as a father figure, and is, in fact, Elrond's nephew from many many generations ago. He is "the greatest that now is" among mankind, and yes, pretty much a perfect man.

Scenes with Galadriel often confuse viewers not familiar with the books.
She is telepathic and often leaves people feeing as though she could see into their souls. Boromir felt very uncomfortable by her gaze and Gimli was especially embarrassed because he could not conceal how beautiful he thought she was.
The scene with the pool of water was only meant to show how dangerous the ring would be in the hands of a powerful Elf or even a wizard. No matter how good their intentions might be at first, they would ultimately succumb to evil. Galadriel is tempted because she knows she is powerful enough to defeat Sauron with the use of the Ring and she would be the ruler of Middle Earth if she accepted Frodo's offer.
"I pass the test. I will diminish and go into the West" is what she says after the vision passes.

The scene where Frodo offers the ring to Galadriel: In the book, Galadriel says, "Gently you are avenged for my testing of your heart.." Galadriel mentally tested each of the members of the fellowship to see if their hearts were true. She offered something or tempted each of them with something they would desire, and to obtain it, all they would have to do is leave the quest behind and it would be theirs. Frodo was quite willing to leave the ring in her care and that was Galadriel's one desire. To take the ring and use it to undo all of the evil of the enemy. But in doing so, she herself would have become a terrible lord and set herself up in the dark lord's place. She resisted at the last and "passed the test.."

“The horn of Boromir!’ he cried. ‘He is in need!’ He sprang down the steps and away, leaping down the path. ‘Alas! An ill fate is on me this day, and all that I do goes amiss. Where is Sam?’
As he ran the cries came louder, but fainter now and desperately the horn was blowing. Fierce and shrill rose the yells of the Orcs, and suddenly the horn-calls ceased. Aragorn raced down the last slope, but before he could reach the hill’s foot, the sounds died away; and as he turned to the left and ran towards them they retreated, until at last he could hear them no more. Drawing his bright sword and crying Elendil! Elendil! he crashed through the trees.
A mile, maybe, from Parth Galen in a little glade not far from the lake he found Boromir. He was sitting with his back to a great tree, as if he was resting. But Aragorn saw that he was pierced with many black-feathered arrows; his sword was still in his hand, but it was broken near the hilt; his horn cloven in two was at his side. Many Orcs lay slain, piled all about “him and at his feet.
Aragorn knelt beside him. Boromir opened his eyes and strove to speak. At last slow words came. ‘I tried to take the Ring from Frodo,’ he said. ‘I am sorry. I have paid.’ His glance strayed to his fallen enemies; twenty at least lay there. ‘They have gone: the Halflings: the Orcs have taken them. I think they are not dead. Orcs bound them.’ He paused and his eyes closed wearily. After a moment he spoke again.
‘Farewell, Aragorn! Go to Minas Tirith and save my people! I have failed.’
‘No!’ said Aragorn, taking his hand and kissing his brow. ‘You have conquered. Few have gained such a victory. Be at peace! Minas Tirith shall not fall!’
    Boromir smiled.
‘Which way did they go? Was Frodo there?’ said Aragorn.
But Boromir did not speak again.
‘Alas!’ said Aragorn. ‘Thus passes the heir of Denethor, Lord of the Tower of Guard! This is a bitter end. Now the Company is all in ruin. It is I that have failed. Vain was Gandalf’s trust in me. What shall I do now? Boromir has laid it on me to go to Minas Tirith, and my heart desires “it; but where are the Ring and the Bearer? How shall I find them and save the Quest from disaster?’
He knelt for a while, bent with weeping, still clasping Boromir’s hand. So it was that Legolas and Gimli found him. They came from the western slopes of the hill, silently, creeping through the trees as if they were hunting. Gimli had his axe in hand, and Legolas his long knife: all his arrows were spent. When they came into the glade they halted in amazement; and then they stood a moment with heads bowed in grief, for it seemed to them plain what had happened.
‘Alas!’ said Legolas, coming to Aragorn’s side. ‘We have hunted and slain many Orcs in the woods, but we should have been of more use here. We came when we heard the horn - but too late, it seems. I fear you have taken deadly hurt.’
‘Boromir is dead,’ said Aragorn. ‘I am unscathed, for I was not here with him. He fell defending the hobbits, while I was away upon the hill.”

Merry and Pippin's swords are also from the same source, although I don't think they glow blue. From the books/appendices, we learn they were forged to fight against the evil King of Angmar--centuries earlier, and have some magic in them against evil, which is important in a later scene but is not really emphasized in the movies. In the books they get the swords from the graves of long dead kings who fought against Angmar--but that side-story would have made the movies even longer and was not included. The King of Angmar becomes the leader of the Ringwraiths/Nazgul--evil to start with and corrupted even more by one of the nine rings forged for men.

Galadriel is all about showing. It's a little more obvious in the book, but think that up until Frodo saw the vision of the Shire being raided, he was mainly just doing what he was told and saw Sauron and the impending war as more of an outside problem. Galadriel felt she had to show him "No, this won't just affect us outsiders, everything you know and care about will be fucked if you don't come through on this." She had to make it personal to ensure that he really grasped how serious things were. And then she had to demonstrate why he couldn't just hand the ring off to some other powerful figure. Thag scene was meant to be kind of a "scared straight" moment for Frodo to get him to realize the magnitude of his mission.

  • @georgial6398

Others have probably explained but the Galadriel scene where Frodo offers her the ring.... Galadriel is the elf queen from the prologue who got one of the three rings of the elves (she's also the narrator). She was chosen as narrator bc the character is ancient, even for an elf. One of the oldest beings in middle earth and maybe the most powerful. It's her or Sauron. She's more powerful than the wizards. The meaning of the scene is that she is shocked to find someone walk into her woods, walk up to her personally, and casually offer her the most powerful, sought after object in the world. She's just taken aback by it. But she explains to Frodo/says to herself that if she took the ring she would become a female Sauron, basically. (Gandalf says something similar to Frodo earlier, refusing the ring - "You cannot offer me this ring. I would take it from a desire to do good; but thru me it would wield a power too dark and terrible to imagine" etc) The ring is actually a far greater danger in a powerful being's hands than in a hobbit's. So Galadriel resists the offer despite her long desire for the ring, even tho doing so, she knows, will make inevitable her own diminishment and the end of her time in middle earth. And of the elves. The elves are leaving the continent for home. That's what she means by diminish, go into the west, and remain Galadriel. She would diminish bc her magic and her home's magic are in large part maintained by her elven ring, which if the one ring is destroyed, would also lose its power. So by refusing the ring she is accepting either this fate, or the fate of Sauron winning. Either way, the elves of middle earth lose. 'And remain Galadriel' means she would avoid becoming a dark queen monster being, which is what she would become if she took the ring.
As for the sword glowing, it is Bilbo's sword made by ancient elves and it is magicked to glow blue whenever near orcs (he mentions this briefly when giving it to Frodo).
As for 'there is only one lord of the rings,", the lord of the rings of the title is Sauron.

20:34 Galadriel had one of the 3 Elven Rings of Power, and is already one of the most powerful beings in Middle Earth. She was tempted by the Ring in this scene, and even had thoughts about taking the Ring from Frodo, but it was much easier as he offered it to her of his own free will. He thought she may be someone he could trust to bear the burden of the Ring so he didn't have to. However she showed him what she predicted to be the future if she was given the Ring. She would be an Evil Queen, more powerful than any other being with no rivals, and she was able to stop herself and overcome those thoughts, which is why she said she "passed the test" and was able to resist the Ring.

Pilar is so quick to pick up the threads of the story, she seems far less confused than other reactors I've seen. She is going to have such fun with the next two movies (or have the life almost scared out her!😉).

When Bilbo gave the sword to Frodo, he told him it was made by the Elves and when it glows blue which means the orcs are nearby and approaching. I guess you missed that part.

Yes, please put your reactions to the second and third movie. It’s wonderful how you react to many aspects of the movie like characters, scenes, story, cinematography, music and importantly showing emotions, genuine emotions. Looking forward to your reaction of The Two Towers.

Your question about Frodo's sword (as well as his Mithril armor vest) comes from the story of "The Hobbit," which is the predecessor to LotR. In the Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (Frodo's uncle,) found it when the party searched a Troll cave, and they found a number of ancient, elvish weapons, including what to the Elves would be a dagger. It's the perfect size for a Hobbit to carry as a short sword, and that was how Bilbo got it. The dagger is an ancient, enchanted dagger, created by the Elves, and it glows when Orcs are nearby, which Bilbo named "Sting." Bilbo was also gifted the Mithril armor vest by the the Dwarf Thorin Oakenshield. I can't wait to see your review of "The Two Towers," LotR volume 2!

The Hobbit feet are their typical feature, as Tolkien author of the books which those films are adaptation of wrote:
"Their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly)." /"Their feet had tough leathery soles and were clad in a
thick curling hair, much like the hair of their heads, which was commonly brown."
Hobbits or Halflings are this diminutive race of beings and it's part of their thing that they usually don't wear or need to wear shoes (with some exceptions) :), they are naturally short between 2 and 4 feet:
""For they are a little people, smaller than Dwarves: less stout and stocky, that is, even when they are not actually much shorter. Their height is variable, ranging between two and four feet of our measure."
Galadriel, and her test, well here is basically that refusing the temptation of power, she proves herself worthy and the Ring itself has this quality to it that it influences people's minds, it can enslave them and indeed part of it's power is dominating minds and wills of other creatures, which is useful for the Dark Lord Sauron THE Lord of the Rings :).

I had no idea you moved to Scotland. What an adventure indeed to just leave everything behind like that. You're really brave. I enjoyed you pointing out celtic influences in this movie, because JRR Tolkien who wrote the books these movies are based on was english and he took a lot of inspiration from english history and ww2. You specifically mentioned the vibe of the shire reminding you of scotland which is funny because the Shire was totally inspirsed by the rolling green hills of england and presumably scotland too.

@@pilarslittlestudio Tolkein was one of the greatest linguists (some say THE greatest) in the world, specializing in northern European ancient languages, which are known mainly through stories and legends that have been passed down. He created the Elvish languages, and they are pretty complete. One of them is based to an extent on Celtic (If I remember correctly). So the stories are linguistically and literature-wise based on the legends and myths of the British Isles while being their own thing and wonderfully unique. In the movies, they also based some of the other languages you will hear in the second and third movies on Old English.

Pilar, I enjoyed your reaction so much. Thank God for captions. Peter Jackson will forever be remembered, if for nothing else, as the man who brought Middle Earth to life on the big screen. Sorry to say that Gandalf the Grey is truly dead.
