It was the summer of 1981. I had only been home from college for a couple weeks. And then, we lost my mom in a car accident. At that time, she listened to "Ronnie" non-stop. This song came out right around the time of her death. This song has always spoken to me, in a different context in which the lyrics were meant. I miss you mom. Love, Your Oldest Son.
Yes, it's a beautiful song he sings so well. This morning I am watching the Glen Campbell Music Show on GetTV and Ronnie sung it, bringing back memories. God bless everyone.
Only heard this song today for the first time! My neighbour was actually playing it out loud!! I thought it sounded cool. So i searched it up and here, i am haha... So Awesome!!! 💘💘😇
Just think of the hardship Ronnie Milsap had to endure, he was born with a disease that left him nearly blind, and would eventually lose his eyesight entirely. He was also abandoned by his mother while he was an infant and then raised in poverty. Despite all of his hardships he developed a musical talent and shared his talent with the world. It is amazing that many of the most gifted artists are blind; Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Terri Gibbs to name a few.
And just think of how much he did! Country, disco and 80s pop all together from one artist! His voice was classic and unforgettable too. Ronnie Milsap was a staple of my childhood and I will never forget the words to all his hits. Love him!
I have always thought that Ronnie Milsap was one of our greatest male vocalists. But that is just my opinion. It might be better to say that he is my favorite male vocalist of all time.
I was in my early 30's when I saw him in concert. He did exactly the same thing, by jumping off the piano. It scared the crap out of me and made me scream. What an amazing experience of my 1st concert.

Wow! even after all these years this song still reminds me of (2005/07) She and I driving down the shore line of Mary Esther/Navarre/Destin, FL under the stars singing this at the top of our lungs to each other. And although we both married someone else. I swear every time I hear this song I can only try and hide my guilty smile when I think about her.

Ronnie Milsap absolutely is one of the all time best musicians that I have ever seen. Despite him being physically blind, he has a lot of great musical talent. I hope to have a 2nd chance to see him live in concert.
To me ..it's the vocal harmony they used back in the day ..organ & sax in a County tune ..genius! Stuff like this converted me a country lover back in the 70s. Ronnie Milsap IS a National treasure.
The song There's No Gettin' Over Me is structured and played on a blues framework. That's why the song is soulful. The blues is indigenous to formerly enslaved African people. An art form originating in the United States.
I totally agree Jack. I never listened to Country before but I will definitely listen to songs like this. This man has the talent so badly lacking today ; theyre out there but few & far between.Who else in country sounds like this - melody, music ; just asking ?.
my oh my....Ronnie just lets this song come on out......he does more than sing it...he gets you into another dimension while you are dreaming about your honey.......
This song and another of his songs, Lost in the Fifties Tonight, are just so excellent. Ronnie Milsap, is just so awesome. I'm 70 years old and like lots of different types of music. A lot of people need to be more open-minded and give all types of music a chance. I've even started likeing one type of music, that I used to hate. Not my favorite, but their are lots of truly beautiful opera songs.
High-five! It seems there may be smth to "an older age", after all LOL ie, once ppl get old enough to a certain point to just ~kno better, they finally learn (if they'd never done so before already long ago) that there's simply good & bad everywhere, & one shouldn't put all-encompassing labels on entire genres / decades / etc.. ^-^
I guess I'm the lucky one here. I was a DJ playing country music when this song came out. Ronnie played 6 Flags over St. Louis. I had arranged with his road manager to go down and do an interview with Ronnie. He had two shows scheduled. In between the shows I hung around the stage when his stage people, Johnny and Sheri Cobb, who were background singers and band members, wanted to know if I could MC the second show! I said yes. Stayed back stage and watched the entire show, after which Ronnie gave me all the time I wanted for the interview, This was just after being named CMA Entertainer of the year. I still have that interview. I'm one lucky guy!
This song 🎶 bring back old memories, still listening in 2023 He have a soulful voice! This is my favorite song 🎶 so tell me are you a fan of Ronnie Milsap…?
@@osagborohaynes8791 You ain't wrong, or some nice gaming headphones. It's amazing when you hear how much funk and thump this song has. It's like a mix of James Taylor and Ray Charles to me. Love Ronnie Milsap. Fellow Carolina boy.
Forever grateful for the lyrics to this song & the song in general...... Everyday of my life.. I walk to the beat of this song!!!!!! Living every moment to the extreme fullest!!!!!
This is what's awesome about being older. I can enjoy many kinds and genres of music and I don't have to follow any trends or care about what my friends think.
So very true. My mother raised me on good music, such as this, and I won't conform to this new age crud that these kids listen to. (I'm turning 30 in December, and I'm beyond serious, nothing tops classics like this.
You can do that at ANY age, ~I always did (enjoyed all kinds of music & other media, regardless of what's "popular"), & never cared what other ppl thought. It's just about being your own person & exploring diff types of various media (among other areas of life as well) to see what you like / what works for ~you. Someone isn't "more awesome" just cuz they are ~older, it is only when they realize that they can be an independent spirit with their own unique interests ;D But a common annoyance is when certain ppl- again, of ANY age- start acting / believing that their single genre / decade / etc of choice is the best & that "younger ppl just don't understand" or the ever-cliche "nothing is good anymore / they dont make em these days like they used to" - PFFT. Every single generation has said the same old thing, at least a few times every decade we get entire groups of ppl declaring this, like it's some big revelation. Personally, I have majorly eclectic taste- ever since I was very young! I grew up learning to just channel-surf the radio til I heard smth I liked, over & over again, til eventually, I loved a lil bit of everything ;P & still do, no matter what decade it's from! Music just should be all about what moves your feet, touches your soul, heals your heart, makes you feel the beat, inspires thoughts in your mind, etc. ^-^ (any combo!)

tune ..genius! Stuff like this converted me a country lover back in the 70s. Ronnie Milsap IS a National treasure.
A great talent with a great voice, One of my all time best.
This is such an awesome song! Sweet memories ‼️🥰

Ronnie is marvelous..
One of the best ever..
Totally agree!
So true
Very true
The song There's No Gettin' Over Me is structured and played on a blues framework. That's why the song is soulful.
The blues is indigenous to formerly enslaved African people. An art form originating in the United States.
+Jerry Johns Presently enslaved as well, though to different things these days.
We listen to his greatest hits collection on trips. You can play the whole CD and never skip ahead. Same with Don Williams.
wow... missed listening to this song. Glad to chance upon it again.. Brought back Beautiful memories!
I LOVE Ronnie and this song so much!! So beautiful and soulful! 🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎
I was a high school senior when this came out. Had to have the album.
I totally agree Jack. I never listened to Country before but I will definitely listen to songs like this.
This man has the talent so badly lacking today ; theyre out there but few & far between.Who else in country sounds like this - melody, music ; just asking ?.
Just listened to him today. Have one of his CD's that I play when I'm out cruising with the top down.
A great song and arrangement by an outstanding artist.
Kip Fogarty Bumblebee
Kip Fogarty I completely agree with you!

Love this song ❤️
Listening to this song remind me of the past good days. How is life treating you?
well that is pretty wild lifestyle that you live
Going to hear this magnificent singer and musician tonight !!!!! 11-9-2019
Thank again ...no looking back .keep going forward .

@@osagborohaynes8791 You ain't wrong, or some nice gaming headphones. It's amazing when you hear how much funk and thump this song has. It's like a mix of James Taylor and Ray Charles to me. Love Ronnie Milsap. Fellow Carolina boy.

Love his voice , so beautiful
I miss being 6 years old hearing music like this on the radio in the truck with my dad.. Radio will truly never be the same.
this song gets in your head.... such a smooth melody.
Someone isn't "more awesome" just cuz they are ~older, it is only when they realize that they can be an independent spirit with their own unique interests ;D
But a common annoyance is when certain ppl- again, of ANY age- start acting / believing that their single genre / decade / etc of choice is the best & that "younger ppl just don't understand" or the ever-cliche "nothing is good anymore / they dont make em these days like they used to" - PFFT.
