    It was the summer of 1981. I had only been home from college for a couple weeks. And then, we lost my mom in a car accident. At that time, she listened to "Ronnie" non-stop. This song came out right around the time of her death. This song has always spoken to me, in a different context in which the lyrics were meant. I miss you mom. Love, Your Oldest Son.

    Just think of the hardship Ronnie Milsap had to endure, he was born with a disease that left him nearly blind, and would eventually lose his eyesight entirely. He was also abandoned by his mother while he was an infant and then raised in poverty. Despite all of his hardships he developed a musical talent and shared his talent with the world. It is amazing that many of the most gifted artists are blind; Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Terri Gibbs to name a few.

      Hard to believe there was a time when Ronnie Milsap, Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis and the News, Madonna, Eddy Grant, and Dexy' Midnight Runners were played on the same station. Now that's diversity. Is there diversity on the most-downloaded charts today? Hardly.
      In 2014, according to "The Atlantic," "the top 1 percent of solo artists and bands now earn 77 percent of the revenue from recorded music. On the radio, still the most effective way to break artists and songs with the pop audience, the 10 most popular songs are played twice as much as they were a decade ago."

    This is crazy. I have known of Ronnie Milsap all my life, but never cared much for country music. Now in my later 50's, (plus a divorce & finding Love again!), I have suddenly taken to this music of his. Says so much to me somehow, several of his songs. The style, lyrics, etc. have struck a chord in my soul. Crazy, but cool.

      Faith Walker BITCH FIRST OFF THIS SONG CROSSED OVER TO POP. I KNOW THAT AND I AM ONLY 24 YEARS OLD. SECOND OF ALL LITERALLY 95-97% OF TODAY'S COUNTRY IS JUST AS INCREDIBLE AS THIS ONE SONG AND.ONE ARTIST IS. SO DON'T FUCKING SAY BACK WHEN AND WAS NOTHING YOU DIP SHIT

    • @countrygirlcountrymusiclov5831
      @countrygirlcountrymusiclov5831 6 років тому

      MrVampiredog BITCH I SUGGEST YOU DO SOME DAMN RESEARCH. IF THE COUNTRY GENRE OF TODAY SUCKED WHY TJE FUCK IS 💯% OF IT JUST AS COUNTRY (IF NOT A LITTLE MORE COUNTRY) THAN THIS SONG AND WHY TVE FUCK IS LITERALLY 95-97% OF TODAY'S COUNTRY NOTHING BUT PURE RAW STRAIGHT UP TALENT. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DO SUCK IN TODAY'S COUNTRY ARE KEITH URBAN FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE CHRIS SHITPELTON RASCAL FLATS AND JOHN PARTY. THOSE ARE JUST AS COUNTRY AS RONNIE MILSAP AND THEY ARE JUST AS COUNTRY AS ANYBODY NOT LISTED. THOSE I DIDN'T LIST DO NOT BELONG ON THE LIST OF THE DUDES I MENTIONED WHILE AGO BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO TALENTED TO SUCK. I LISTED EVERY SINGLE SUCKY PERSON IN TODAY'S COUNTRY. AND THE REASON I SAID THAT TODAY'S COUNTRY IS PROBABLY A LITTLE MORE COUNTRY IS BECAUSE RONNIE CROSSED OVER TO POP WITH MOST OF HIS SONGS WHERE AS TODAY THE ONLY RECENT POP CROSSOVERS I CAN THINK OF ARE ONE SONG FROM THE FOLLOWING REAL COUNTRY (ALSO KNOWN AS COUNTRY IN GENERAL) CARRIE UNDERWOOD BEFORE HE CHEATS. THEY PLAYED THE COUNTRY VERSION OF THAT ON POP STATIONS. THAT SONG WAS OFF HER FIRST CD BACK IN 2005. SHE HAS SINCE RELEASED CARNIVAL RIDE IN 2007 PLAY ON IN 2009 BLOWN AWAY IN 2012 GREATEST HITS DECADE #1 IN 2014 AND STORYTELLER IN 2015. SHE HAS ONLY HAD BEFORE HE CHEATS PLAYED ON POP STATIONS. SAM HUNT ANOTHER PERSON WHO IS AS FAR FROM POP AS YOU CAN GET HAS ONLY HAD ONE CD OUT IN 2014 AND HIS ONLY POP CROSSOVER WAS TAKE YOUR TIME. LADY ANTEBELLUM HAS HAD SEVERAL CDS OUT SINCE 2007. IN 2010 OR 2009 THEY HAD THEIR ONLY POP CROSSOVER NEED YOU NOW. THOSE ARE THE ONLY RECENT COUNTRY TO POP CROSSOVERS THAT HAVE EVER HAPPENED IN RECENT COUNTRY AND JUST THINK OF ALL THE 80s STUFF THAT GOT RELEASED TO POP RADIO THAT WAS CLASSIFIED AS COUNTRY.

      The song There's No Gettin' Over Me is structured and played on a blues framework. That's why the song is soulful.
      The blues is indigenous to formerly enslaved African people. An art form originating in the United States.

A lot of people need to be more open-minded and give all types of music a chance. I've even started likeing one type of music, that I used to hate. Not my favorite, but their are lots of truly beautiful opera songs.

It seems there may be smth to "an older age", after all LOL ie, once ppl get old enough to a certain point to just ~kno better, they finally learn (if they'd never done so before already long ago) that there's simply good & bad everywhere, & one shouldn't put all-encompassing labels on entire genres / decades / etc.. ^-^

    I guess I'm the lucky one here. I was a DJ playing country music when this song came out. Ronnie played 6 Flags over St. Louis. I had arranged with his road manager to go down and do an interview with Ronnie. He had two shows scheduled. In between the shows I hung around the stage when his stage people, Johnny and Sheri Cobb, who were background singers and band members, wanted to know if I could MC the second show! I said yes. Stayed back stage and watched the entire show, after which Ronnie gave me all the time I wanted for the interview, This was just after being named CMA Entertainer of the year. I still have that interview. I'm one lucky guy!

      @SimbiAni 10 років тому +1

      You can do that at ANY age, ~I always did (enjoyed all kinds of music & other media, regardless of what's "popular"), & never cared what other ppl thought. It's just about being your own person & exploring diff types of various media (among other areas of life as well) to see what you like / what works for ~you. Someone isn't "more awesome" just cuz they are ~older, it is only when they realize that they can be an independent spirit with their own unique interests ;D
      But a common annoyance is when certain ppl- again, of ANY age- start acting / believing that their single genre / decade / etc of choice is the best & that "younger ppl just don't understand" or the ever-cliche "nothing is good anymore / they dont make em these days like they used to" - PFFT. Every single generation has said the same old thing, at least a few times every decade we get entire groups of ppl declaring this, like it's some big revelation. Personally, I have majorly eclectic taste- ever since I was very young! I grew up learning to just channel-surf the radio til I heard smth I liked, over & over again, til eventually, I loved a lil bit of everything ;P & still do, no matter what decade it's from!
      Music just should be all about what moves your feet, touches your soul, heals your heart, makes you feel the beat, inspires thoughts in your mind, etc. ^-^ (any combo!)
