  • Tara Brach - Attend and Befriend: Healing the Fear Body - 3/30/12
    Our fear management strategies--versions of fight/flight-- contract our body and mind, and separate us from others. As we learn to pause and contact the bodily fear with a gentle, mindful awareness, our sense of being enlarges. We rediscover our belonging to presence, love and life.

    The key is to keep practicing to embrace body discomfort and to accept the mind's resistance with self-compassion!

    I have been living life with extreme fear, and have been diagnosed with C-PTSD, I have struggled to find peace with my past. I currently became aware of Tara Brach's teachings, and the more I listen with thought the more I sense that I am making progress in understanding myself and am coming to terms with my past. Thank you for the wisdom that you impart.

      Me too, Deb. I find the practice of attend and befriend to be so helpful in wrapping my trauma in compassion. All of our internal emotional parts, even the inner critic, are trying to protect and love us but they are frozen in time - in the past. Healing our nervous system and befriending all parts of ourselves will bring so much openness. Sending love your way!

      Me three. I've Been Working On Healing finding my way for three decades, hard to believe actually. Started with anxiety and panic attacks at age 19. It's been a rough path and it's interesting how things keep circling round and back until you get it right or maybe that's not the best word.. the last ones the teachings.

    I wish you were my Doctor . I need some support . Your voice is so calming . I’ve been suffering from horrible anxiety.. this morning was so hard for me . I tried to meditate a little . A little deep breathing .. my sister and her boyfriend sometimes bully me emotionally. Sunday was the worst . I’m still drained from Sunday despite listening to some of your you tube chats ... I’m getting help from another doctor Therapist virtually. But I really like Tara . She gets it . She really does . 🙏🏻

    This spoke straight to my heart.............Thank you so much!!!!! I have been attacked over 800 times. I am 58 years old and have been in therapy for 30 years. I have come a very long way from psychotic ptsd. I can't explain it all but I had disassociation disorder. I still do. I have a great life and am in reality most of the time now. I have been living fight and flight as the norm as you could imagine. I just really got into meditation . We do it in therapy. Thank you so much as I believe I will live longer because of you...........

    Thank you Tara Brach. I thoroughly appreciate your talks. They are Inspirational and thought provoking. Your antidotes are witty and clever and the stories, pretty funny. Especially "the make sure he's dead story". I listened to it more than once, and inevitably hear something new every time. So I'm going to keep listening and learning about me, about you, about us. Thank you again, very much. :-)

    In one of your talks you spoke of a woman who was dying and you said something like this. She said that throughout my whole life I always believed I was a bad person and then she died. I cannot tell you how profound that statement was for me. I am a senior and because of what happened to me in my childhood this has been my belief as well. Thank you so much because that one statement from that woman has had such an impact on me.

      I listened to that story recently and I heard the line as "All my life I always thought something was wrong with me." Maybe a different re-telling of the story or a different talk, but still a similar sentiment. It hit me very strongly too. I hope you are still feeling the impact a year later and beyond.

    When I was young I spent time meditating and found that I would get so stressed a few days after. I noticed a door opened that I couldn't close and I would begin to struggle. So I stopped later a therapist told me I needed to meditate and I explained what I thought ..he felt was simply didn't want to meditate .. I felt uncomfortable about my defiance because you get labeled difficult but when I tried it later it was a trigger. and not helpful. I would take so long to regroup

      This is interesting because I had the same experience. I would try to clear my mind and see traumatic things or images. I have found other ways recently to meditate that doesn't include sitting Indian style and clearing my mind but instead using focal points in nature and just practicing not thinking during that time? I don't believe that one size fits all. You're not alone though.

    What about anxiety disorders like social anxiety? How do you deal w/ the freeze fight or flight from SA? Because im guessing this technique she spoke of works well w/ non-anxious pple.

    • @RobPolson
      @RobPolson 7 років тому +2

      I know exactly what you mean...when the anxiety totally overcomes any ability to step back and take a better look at the panic attack. Meditation helps though, since stepping back (as in meditation) becomes more and more of a habit that you have more control of when these SA attacks happen...or you can see/feel the attack coming before they are fully encompassing you so you can take steps to make them less powerful.
