Bill Walton: San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria is a Liar and Fraud

My family has been in San Diego since 1920. I had a good career on SDPD. I saw the handwriting on the wall back in the 70's and bought 40 acres in one of the mountain states.
My extended family of about 60 persons, mostly police and firefighters, are all leaving Calif.. We've given up on it.
It's taken 50 years for the homeless problem to get where it is now and I can't imagine it being corrected, if ever.
SDPD is under-manned and can hardly recruit qualified applicants. When I joined the written testing took 3 days for several thousand applicants; they didn't need recruiters or hiring ads.
Chief Ray Hoobler (a cop's cop) used to go to the mayor and council to really try to get them to hire more officers (just short of pounding the desk with his shoe) ! Mayor Pete Wilson's famous line was, "If they don't want to work for what we pay, they can go work somewhere else !" People would join SDPD, get trained for a couple years and then go to other departments.
I asked the old timers on the PD how they kept the city nice while I was growing up here. The answer: basic hard-nosed law enforcement. Not now ! Too much whining by do-gooders. Too much hands-off policing.
Three officers I talked to a year and a half ago were leaving because the departments hands were tied by the mayor.
Two were detectives, each with 10 years on and they went to another department in the county. The third one, 16 years on, was a chopper pilot flying ABLE !
That's just the start of what all of southern Calif is up against.
Too many people here !!! And the other biggy: illegal aliens.
God help you and help yourselves, nobody else can keep you safe !

Bill had the character that brings the good out of those who care about what is RIGHT. We need more like

The current administration is the result of an illiterate electorate. The fantasy of government solving our social community issues is perpetuated through political campaigns and money. The mayor in 1988 O’Conner took to the street and here is an observation she made. 'Homelessness is more than not having housing. It's about more serious problems, like substance abuse and mental illness. And the situation is deteriorating.' Her solution was to create a resource book to hand out to homeless people rather than money. Back then, they were called “vagrants”. The current crisis too over 50 years in the making. Almost 2 generations. This is not a problem that will be solved overnight or with just one solution. Bill, you keep up the effort. Dan Plante we are following your coverage of the situation. Larry, stop talking like a politician and tell us how you will help fix this mess. My first question to you is, is there enough money in the current city budget to address the problem or will you have to raise taxes? 🙏💪🌍🌎🌏❤️🇺🇸🖖

RIP bill! i still can’t believe you’re gone, but thank you for continuing to fight for your hometown until the end… i went to san diego july 2021, i saw homeless people on the streets in downtown, went to balboa park and the san diego zoo… there were homeless people in balboa park! the people of san diego deserve better leadership and a person who cares about their city! if i would’ve been living in san diego today and bill would’ve been alive, i would’ve voted for him to be the mayor because he cares about his city and he wanted to solve the issue!! even for president i would’ve voted for him because he’s showed leadership and he cares about his hometown and country!! my message to the people of san diego is to fire the mayor that you have in office, leadership matters and this mayor doesn’t even care about his city! people of SD, continue to fight for your city!!
