- Part of the basic training experience is uniting people from all walks of life and learning to get along.
After countless hours of training, eating, and sleeping alongside each other, the trainees learn to think as a team.
Kenia Mills takes us back to Sand Hill for a team building event where some troops are challenged to overcome their fears and help each other along the way.
Tune in for the next installment of The Making of a Soldier where trainees use the power of their minds to improve their skills.
"it's okay man you can only die once" - best advice i've ever heard in my entire life.
you only die once but you don't know if it's today or tomorrow.
Sumit Raizada Irrelevant. Dying is dying, embrace it when it comes like a comforting blanket. Death is as much a part of life as life, and should be cherished, as in that exact moment all of your worries pass... I don't believe in a specific god, but regardless of whether or not there is an afterlife, peace will be found.
The Truth I live in January and I can only hope my drill sergeant is cool is as that guy
when you enlist, you enlist into a program called the future soldier program, there is where you wait to ship off to basic, and your recruiting station has pt every week. If you cant do pushups then future soldier pt will get you there. If you pass the 2-2-2, certain amount of sit ups and push ups in 2 minutes, and can run 2 miles in under 12 minutes then you get a promotion to pv2.
Great advices: 1.) avoid creating unwanted attention. 2.) observe everything around. 3.) be a team player. 4.) Don't quit / Never give up.
SST. YOU CAN ONLY DIE ONCE!!!
"People like Strickland...the other Strickland..."
I know the mixed feelings you have. I guess they're universal. On the one hand we're so proud of our loved ones, but realize at the same time, the potential of their being put in harms way, grand style, at any moment. Our son graduates from Ft Benning soon. His personality has changed, he has matured, and is has growing closer to God. He is finally developing a life plan. I hope your son does fulfill his dreams and that he will always be in God's secret place where no harm will come to him.
U guys are awesome, I graduated 2005-06 I don't remember; ur son is trained by the best Army in the world; especially Infantry, alot of people for get that; Infantry all the way
I watch these every other day to get some motivation, I can't wait to join this brotherhood.
still in?
That's what I can't wait for is the friendship in basic training it would be an awesome feeling
Loved the obstacle course, even though I was not perfect at it. Great squad / platoon group building experience. Ran it with my buddies on my off time. New recruits? Do so as well.
They seem to already have a closer brotherhood than Marines
That DS seems so nice... Hope mine will be like that!
well how was he
@@altitudepilot3146 lmao wondering the same thing
I just pray that my son can fulfill his life commitment, whatever it may be. Personally I'm a proud father and scared for him.
how is your son now
"You can only die once" !!!! LMAO
Drill "I can't make you like each other but I can make you work together" and it was true . . .
Drill Sergeant: It's okay man. You can only die once!*
Me: Heck No!..I'm falling!!
@ICrySemperFi Amen dude. I am trying to join the Army right now, but thouse are some strong words you have. Thank you for serving are country, and God bless.
I went through Air Defence Artillery OSUT 1983. Then on to Korea, 2nd Inf. Div. The 'real Army" was a whole other world particularly in the 80's peacetime Army.
SSG Jonathan James @ 2:40. That's what I remember of my drill sergeants...honest and inspirational.
2:26 "It's ok man you can only die once" LMAO!
I am US army veteran and we always goings to be brothers in arms✌
yea these guys definitely are putting on a show for the camera. i dont think i saw my drill sgts smile once until like the middle of blue phase
The only time you will ever feel the type of friendship between soldiers again is on the battlefield
I can't wait for this part......5 min. phone call home to the winner platoon...hooah...and to show what i got..oh man im going to love this phase
I don’t know what they call it at Benning, But at Jackson it is called ‘Fit To Win’. and it was a lot of fun.
Shipping out in two weeks. Can't wait
@Raktoner probably the most legit comforting phrase ever said...
EVER
"i've become friends with ______ and _____ and number 404 (name not found)"
3:28
I can't wait to join when I'm old enough
Looks like fun!
can't wait!!!
haha! Thats SDS James my DS :)
Amen to that one. Countless briefs and classes. .-.
We DIDN'T have those NETS in 06...
Or the Special Ed Helmets lol
SGT Kunze In 99, there were no nets, no helmets, no crash pads, or smiles of any kind. We were told a guy died that year falling from the decline rope when he missed the grab. I could definitely see how that could happen, but not sure if it was BS.
There were plenty of fire ants and splinters.
We didn't either. Was there in 01 and we had a PVT die on the course from a fall. RIP PVT Adam Larson.
Ok, I plan to join the US Army in 5 years "After High School". So I was woundering if they expect you to have all the physical fitness that is needed cause im cant do much push ups but im working on it but i would like to know. Please reply!
@jacobbis4lovers And plus yes infantry OSUT is more difficult than regular basic because of the stigma attached to being infantry however the regular basic at benning is no more difficult than any other post.
I went through Benning in 1986 and it wasn't anything like this I can assure you
Yeah, I remember "Don't you EVER tell me what you can't do!"
I agree its about forgetting I and thinking about we
Cant wait to be in Bootcamp!
150xander I am in army jrotc I have wanted to be in the army since I was six and I can tell you I can't wait for the day I join. If you really want to join then you it won't change do you.
Getting here on Sept. 27th, Hawaii Army National Guard 11B Hooah!
I'm sort of scared to go to the army because of the yelling and scolding.....but this vid right here makes me wanna go.
These guys had it easy compared to how I had it.
Can't watch this without thinking about Stripes. "Are those my men corporal?"
@jacobbis4lovers Just because its where infantry train doesn't mean its any harder than other basic training post
I miss Fort Benning,
"You can only die once" wait what! i thought you could respawn! you know what i m going back home c'ya
How come I didn't get the big friendly black guy for a DS? I got a big, angry white guy for my SDS, a bigger white guy who knocked down trees for fun as another DS, and my last DS was a small white guy with a sadistic streak! Ah, Infantry OSUT. What wonderful memories!
4:05 It's a good thing they aren't going into the Army Band...
Bruh I wanna join the Army now. 3:00 And yes I have been playing PlayStation and games my whole life. I need the Army.
well did u join
Thank u
They seem really undisciplined.
Really u should show them
they need to understand everyone learns differently.
@iplaydeathmetal625 You don't know what kind of brotherhood the Corps has until you actually serve in the Corps.. when you serve in the Corps and then serve in the U.S. Army Infantry you can come back and tell me which one has the closer brotherhood. They BOTH have close brotherhoods.
at the end of the video isnt 307 the guy from the documentary restrepo? and does anyone no 308's name? he looks really familiar
holy crap they had netting on the 4 story tower we didn't have netting on our tower at fort dix NJ in1988
Military Police training is pretty good
I have a question. If you don't do well in army training are you still in the army? Because I'm going to sign up for the army soon and I'm horrible at push-ups and have a fear of heights. Does that mean I will still get into the army?
@eroepps probably so they can distinguish between teams
@iplaydeathmetal625 i take that back. i have no right to speak about brotherhood between soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen. to be honest i dont even remember commenting that, but i apologize to any servicemen i may have offended. God bless you all for doing what you do for this country.
I did my time in 1984 at sand hill
Definately not high speed high stress shout out to A 1/330th hooah
@iplaydeathmetal625 @ 0:23 arent those marines raising the flag at the battle of iwa jima (sorry if i mispelled)
this is wat I wanna do fight for my country
@btman2 well go ahead and look up videos about BCT locations, every other post is a ship date... its just a date how could any foreign enemy use a date for something if they havent been in the system to know how it works?
@jacobbis4lovers I like how you are telling me im wrong when you only made it 5 weeks. 5 weeks isnt shit man, you haven't been in the army. You just went to the first 5 weeks of BASIC training. Plus whenever anyone gets to there regular unit it doesn't matter where the hell you went, you are all held to the same level of performance as the guy that didn't go to benning. Im stationed at Fort Benning talk to new recruits that just got out of basic, theres very little difference between basics.
I didn't even realize my DS's were human until the last week. I remember them being sociopath like monsters.
@jacmcmaho No, I know which soldier you think 307 is and that's not him. The soldier in Restrepo you're referring to is Captain Kearney.. these are enlisted Infantry soldiers. Not officers.
but if you dont pass the future soldier pt? or the biggest pt?
since when it was allowed to sing on sand hill. C 3-47 doomsayers wasn't even allowed to call cadence
I think iplaydeathmetal625 didn't mean it like that and was just trying to show that they have a strong bond already. Same as if somebody says he is as strong as a horse they really don't mean it literally. But in any case anytime you put a bunch of guys together like that in any service you will form a bond together.
Which one?
confidence course was awesome. but our drill sergeants werent so friendly with us haha
leaving 20110809 11x! WHOS WITH ME?!
So @ 1:22 what if you cant climb the rope to the top? what happens then?
ummmm...there is still plenty of schooling to be done, well...depending on your mos.
@btman2 ok fine, i understand that, but u didnt answer my question
ROFL Johnathon James! Those are both my middle names! XD
"It's okay man! You can only die once!"
@jacobbis4lovers That was very hooah, but however I can name off a few MOSes in the army that are taught the same thing
13F(Forward Observer- My mos and everything i've been taught has dealt with raining down hell on the enemy when they dont even see me while supporting all elements of the battlefield)
19D(Cav Scout) the main recon asset for the company level
19K(Tanker) They just blow shit up for yall
68W(Medic) Trained to save and kill
However you already knew all of that
What one?
why are there trainees with the BDU flipped? XD
What happened to parts 2 and 3?
then you are going to have a hell of a time in basic, and you will be pushed to exceed to where they want you to be
What's the name of the song in the beggining? Thanks!!
there's no way this is Army basic... Is it? Who's recent Army?
i can't climb those ropes @1:23 bro.. those are hard for me
DS Bordano!!! Lol 5-15 CAV Bravo Troop Blackjack!!
I'm assuming he's talking about SSG Jonathon James.
cool
Trust me that DS is only doing that for the cam. I had him and he is crazy and sadistic.
"You can only die once."
@swatlover16 hahaha yeah
hahah DS "its ok mna you can only die once" hooah! hahah
@PJMunoz21 Rah brother. Good luck.
Jobs for everyone to Take care Country freedom that good guy's you are Soldier's remember that America number one ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Very tiring time
DRILL SGT JAMES FTW I HAD HIM!!!
2:53
Shit, DS's on to me....
Friendly advice don’t knock yourself out at the rope swing or you’ll be the drill sergeant laughing stock for the remainder of Basic
Unfortunately ...ranger school wont be so nice
