    HOW-TO MAKE PEANUT BUTTER RECIPE
    16 ounces roasted peanuts, unsalted
    1/4-1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
    INSTRUCTIONS
Pour the peanuts into your food processor and pop on the lid.
Turn the food processor on and blend for about 4 minutes. You will notice the peanuts first become thick and crumbly, possibly turn into a ball and then begin to turn into a thick smooth paste.
Remove the lid and add in salt and blend for another 30-60 seconds or util the peanut butter is creamy and shiny.
Transfer to an airtight container and store in the fridge for months (or in a cool dry place for a couple of weeks.
    NOTES
*I recommend using organic peanuts if you can find them.
** Start by adding 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the peanut butter and then taste to see if you like more. I find 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt to be the perfect amount.

Thanks for this wonderful video. If you’re using a 7 cup food processor I would recommend processing only 2 cups of peanuts at a time, not an entire 16 ounce jar which is over 3 cups. When I used the full 16 ounces, my Cuisinart overheated making it difficult to remove the work bowl. I checked the Cuisinart manual, and they suggest using no more than 2 cups of nuts at a time when making nut butter.

Made it today on 1st try since out for essentials. Let's just say I got myself a smooth peanut butter ❤️
Although I do add a tbsp of oil as I use a blender which can be a bit tricky. Need to stop in between blending sessions and mush & mix all the peanut down manually n blend away. But overall, creamy & worth the exp ❤️

I've been making my own natural peanut butter for years. I buy the peanuts raw, roast them, about a kilogram at a time, with a half tsp of rock salt. But, I will tell you what frustrates me so often when I buy, rarely, natural peanut butter: the oil on top and sometimes the saucy-ness... of the product. I think that the ideal home made peanut butter or any natural peanut butter is for it to be spreadable without it leaking all over the place... In other words, the model I use is that of natural tehini - sesame paste. I do not want my peanut butter to be like tehini... For me that means stopping my mixer when it is paste and not sauce. The guide one can use is does my teaspoon stand up - pretty much - in the mixture... Of course I sometimes get distracted, either when roasting - or blending which means that sometimes my peanut butter is a darker than at other times or a bit loser...
Another idea - Often I will give the peanuts a one time quick pulse. You get nice peanut bits out of that... Take out about a 1/4 cup and then at the end place them in for a final spin and you get chunkier peanut butter... You can also get your mixture going and then after it is about halfway done add about another handful of peanuts and you will also get that crunchy peanut butter... ENJOY.

Thank you so, so much for this recipe! I can't wait to try it. Natural peanut butter is affordable in the US but where I live in Grenada, natural peanut butter costs almost $50 EC (sometimes more). That's about $20 US. It's ridiculous! So I'm really happy that I can buy the peanuts, which are much cheaper, and then make my own.

Great video! The other reason to make it yourself, of course, is that you’re not wasting containers, carbon emissions from shipping, water and energy used in production, etc (although of course there is some energy use in your home, too). Still, a much more environmentally responsible choice. And it tastes SO much better. 😄

I'm big on that, too. It's a non-recyclable bag that contains the peanuts versus a virtually non-recyclable plastic jar. It's putting our money (about $1 more per pound of PB) where our mouths are. I like!

I think processing peanuts in a factory in large volumes reduces waste to spoilage and on the machines. Butter is more compact and therefore easier to transport. Glass jars might have a use at home up to a limit. I keep rendered fats, salt and spices in them.

That's so bizarre though that it's more expensive for you to make your own than to buy it premade. In my area I was able to buy a pound of unsalted peanuts for $1.89 and that's half the price of buying it premade in my local stores. Definitely cheaper for me to make it myself :)

Here in New Zealand, organic peanut butter is around $7 a jar. I buy 750 grams of peanuts and get two jars from it. So $3.50 a jar, sometimes the peanuts are on special at $5 so it ends up at $2.50 a jar. Same size jars as the bought product too because I saved the jars from when I was buying it.

I think one reason homemade can be a bit more expensive then commercial is that...... you generally are using higher quality peanuts, you are not using sugars, I’ve seen here they add other oils (generally cheaper then peanut oil - so I wonder if they remove the peanut oil and substitute cheaper oils), etc. I think as you said, the thing with homemade peanut butter is that you have control over the ingredients.....

I always make my own peanut butter, and here in Sweden it's actually more cost effective to make it yourself than to buy it pre made in the store (might be because it's not used as much as in the us).

Easy to make. I have just converted to chunky style peanut butter. Should be easy to add chopped peanuts in the smooth style. 1/2 cup?

Of you keep it in the fridge, for how long does it last, since it doesn't have preservatives?

I found 16oz bags of organic peanuts for $2.99!! Way cheaper than a jar

I get my peanuts from HEB and for me it's about $1 or about 40% cheaper than buying natural peanut butter.

I haven't purchased peanut butter for over a year. Nothing like homemade. I have to check your almond butter video. I have never tried that one.

If you like almond butter, you definitely have to try out the homemade version. So good.

It’s crazy how inexpensive peanuts are but how expensive peanut butter is! Excited to start making my own!

I added this comment before hearing you talk about how it was cheaper for you to buy premade peanut butter...that’s surprising for me, although I have always purchased brands that don’t include any preservatives, natural flavors, etc

Fantastic and easy! If I want crunchy peanut butter, do I just process for less time?

Maam can we give any other salt in place of kosher salt, because it is not available in our country...
