    The reason the steering wheel is so big is because if the power steering fails, you can still use the car. They thought of everything.

    most entertaining presentation, had a good laugh and smile on my face. I once had a 500 SEL pullman cloth on seats, for 1 week only. Unmatched experience. I think the 190e would even suit me better. I am not a mercedes fan yet for their cars from the 80's I make an exception

    I'm driving the same one : a 1992 190E 2.0 265.000km
    Mine is an automatic though. Bought it for €1750 some 8 years ago. Excellent quality in these cars, they were built to last.

    I have a Euro 500SEC after having owned a US spec 560SEC. I'd love to also have a 190. They are superb looking sedans and fun to drive. Of course, I'd also love a 1985 300SD. And a 500E. So I don't think I can have them all.
    Nice video.

    You guys have THE BEST INTERIORS! (...speaking from California, USA)
    The cloth options are divine...and incredibly durable from what I can see/tell...in comparison to the leather and MB Tex we got stateside.
    -
    Just out of curiousity, if I lived where you did, went to the 'wrecking yard, wanted to pull a full interior..
    -door cards...2 front, 2 rear
    -front seats...Left Hand Driver, Right Hand Passenger
    -rear seat...upper, lower
    What kind of 'cheddar we talkin' 'bout?...(i.e. What would I have to pay to procure that 'full set, in good to great condition...no rips, tears, repairs, stains, etc.)?...ball-park, give-or-take, mas o menos, you get it.
    -
    LOVED the burnout.
    If I remember my reading correctly, there was a model/year combination that came with a LSD.
    And even another level with ASD, and SLS.
    -
    Later,
    Your Benz Brother

      Thank you for your words. I guess a pristine used interior could go for like 500 euros. For little more you could perhaps buy a complete car that didn't have a registry in Portugal. For instance, a car with a french registration that had been brought by an immigrant who never imported it.

    Having the 5 speed in my 1993 2.0D, I wonder if you have the same issue as I do, that is whenever you change from second to third finding the third gear is a bit of a hassle. Other than that, there is very little space but it just about cuts it for someone short like me and the engine is a bit too gutless for this car, but overall I'm really pleased with it.

    I have a 84 190D is it common to have a transmission whine in all gears except 4th?

    • @dailydriverreviews
      @dailydriverreviews  4 роки тому

      If the whine is really coming from the transmission, it's not normal. The bearings may be starting to wear out. Check if the prop shaft and all it's bushings are in good shape. Replace the transmission fluid and pray that solves the issue.

    You made a good choice by not getting a diesel. They're not bad, very reliable indeed but slow... ...they are not. They are not just slow, they're hideously slow, especially the 2.0 OM601 diesel like mine. But one day when and if this sucker dies, I'm swapping in a 3.0 OM603 or at the very least a 2.5 OM602.

    • @NicholasGRoberts
      @NicholasGRoberts 5 років тому +1

      How are the 2.5 diesels? Manageable?

    • @RoyalHippieGangstercom
      @RoyalHippieGangstercom 5 років тому

      ...when you say that the OM601 is "hideously slow", may I ask whether or not you're rockin' a slushbox behind that, or a 4 (or 5) speed manual?
      And further, when you refer to the snail's pace, in reference to what?
      (I ask, as a 1983 W123 240D 4sp manual owner...'catch my drift.)
      I've been told that with a 5spd manual behind the OM601, my 240D will be the snail.
      Would you concur?
      (Thanks for the input...making a decision.)

    • @ExAnimoPortugal
      @ExAnimoPortugal 5 років тому +2

      The problem isn't the mileage. It's the automatic transmission. I wouldn't buy it unless you had absolute proof it was serviced properly, for instance, the car belonging to a neighbor or family member

  • @notroll1279
    @notroll1279 6 років тому +1

    I had one of the later down-spec'd 190 E 1.8 which the original owner had bought without any options.
    It was reliable, relaxing and therefore cool in a weird way.
    I never minded the absence of electric controls of the driver side mirror - until the lever for manual adjustments broke off.
    In the end I sold it because due to its low spec, it wouldn't have become collectible and the repairs on the horizon would have nearly eaten up the current value.
    Though the following car is better, this vid made me miss the old horse...

    • @dailydriverreviews
      @dailydriverreviews  6 років тому +2

      No Troll those down spec w201 were sold in Australia as 180E
      I wouldn't say they wouldn't go up in value. I hope you don't regret getting rid of it

    • @notroll1279
      @notroll1279 6 років тому

      They may go up in value eventually - but it will be the better equipped ones that will fare best and mine had caught a few dents over the years.If you are after appreciation, you'll be probably be better off with coupés and convertibles, anyway.
      Parting with a good car is never easy - but I bought a low mileage SAAB 9-5 with most options afterwards when prices had taken a nose-dive after the manufacturer's bankruptcy.
      Since parts availability is much better than people feared it would be, prices have recovered since then and I'm now driving a more modern classic which also has good potential and is a lot safer as a daily driver.
      So right now, I'm still happy with my decision...

      that thing cost 160€ for repair and it will last for another 20-25 yrs, and if it's not damaged too much u can repair it by urself, GL with never M111 M104 and M119 and their engine harness problems, once when isolation on wires is fucked it cost about 800€ for repair and 1600€ for OEM new, M102 and M103 engines are bulletproof and reliable compared to newer shit, trust me, I learned from my mistakes, now I have 2 w124 with m111 2.0 16v with same problems, ECU (cca 420€ for repair) and engine harness, meanwhile I spend about 200€ on my 190E with M102 and I have no wories for another 20yrs :D

    I love “Regular Car Reviews”, but he blew the review of the 190E by reviewing an overseas import instead of the US-spec model w/ 2.6L motor. He essentially reviewed it for what it wasn’t instead of what it was, and nothing ever gets a fair shake under those conditions.
    I do love the Baby Benz, though. Plenty of car for anyone.
