Dan is such an inspirational man. His skills of observation, research and conducting himself are remarkable. Love his views on Irrationality the most for i discovered his book through those.
    Respect to this genius man!

Dan Ariely is THE MAN to speak on the topic of trust. He is a researcher to admire.
Thank you for bringing him to us!

Good equilibrium is a VIRTUOUS CYCLE.

love your remarks. However, I do concern the contrary because every time we (or others) distrust, society (even ourselves) is at loss. Distrust gives rise to skepticism toward pro social behavior toward society or ourselves, which in turns promote social exclusion. If society distrust us, we got cancelled. If we distrust society, we shut ourselves (or fight back) and might become lonelier, and lonely is the leading factor of various issues. In other words, while good equilibrium is a VIRTUOUS cycle, bad equilibrium is a VICIOUS cycle. A slight change (from vi RTU uous to vi CI ous) with huge implication.
However, these cycle are not deterministic and there are many things we can do to mitigate the progress. Thank for the comment Debra

@@SuperCavalry - hi! I read your comment with interest. I would add, though, that there is a good and beneficial reason for mistrust- not everything is trustworthy . It is an adaptation to allow continued existence, in my opinion. Like everything- healthy mistrust of the false and misleading is vital to all of us.

So basically being a sucker sometimes is fine because in the long run being paranoid is more costly.

We can be a sucker a few times here and there because yes, many people are irresponsible.
Or, we can be a sucker *all* of the time. It's our choice to make.

For those of you who don't know: This guy is a grifter who fabricated all of the data in all of the papers he has published (including his books), was ostracized by his own colleagues for being a sleazebag, then was caught lying about it and then went into hiding.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me. I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be. I won't kill you, but I don't I have to save you. A hero can be anyone, even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat on a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended."

So this guy is a fraud. He’s since been exposed for faking all his data by his own colleagues. These little stories and “conclusions” aren’t true. The idea that he’s doing a talk on trust is sociopathic. If you don’t believe it there are videos explaining the whole scandal. He made all this up and it’s disturbing he got this much attention and money out of it.

Just make the numbers public. Then you will see people keep giving. Its the same reason right wingers dont want income numbers to be shown on Citizens. Its so that the mega rich or very rich can act like they didnt earn anything and in turn complain about taxes.

    • @johnsearz3928

I don't believe the relationship between trust and socialism was explored in this talk, but I am of the impression that government intervention is one of the ways to interrupt the positive feedback loops found in the tragedy of the commons and the free rider effect. What would you say the effects of living in a socialist economy would have on individuals ability to trust one another, and can you please show me where that connects with what you got from the video? I am interested to hear what you have to say and to understand that connection.

As odd as it might be to have locals speak in English in front of local audiences there is no European secondary school graduate(since 1970) who isn't fluent (and most who aren't in this category can point you to someone more helpful in English).
If he were to be speaking Spanish /Portuguese I'd have a hard time following without subtles and I didn't mind speakers of my native language offering the same internationallety.
