There is so much material for a saga to be made for this one game. The Drago Campaign, the immortal saga of Rose, The other lands the winglys controlled, and mostly the war itself, was it a interal and external war or just a revolutionary conflict. So many questions that could be answered with further games.
they want us to wait for 109th moon child to be born in order to write the sequel. and we all know it happens once every 108 years. so i'm sure there wil be a sequel of LoD in the year of 2108!

@@legosiw thankfully i held onto my ps3 and got dragoon and many other great ps1 and ps2 on the ps3 store. for whatever reason they refused to transfer all the ps1 and ps2 classics to the ps4. i'm sure a lot of these classics have and would continue to sell well so it makes no sense to me.
This game was actually the first RPG I've ever played. It would be really cool to see a remake of this game even though that's probably never happening.
My sister, cousin and I used to play this. We claimed characters(I was Dart, Meru, and Shana), and it was neat because you would have to learn the timing on each of their combos and master them. We would hand the controller around and attack with our characters. LoD had a huge impact on me, and I have a huge passion for this game.
That's a very unique way to play, I never thought of that before. If i had someone around back in my childhood days that loved this game as much as i did we probably would've done the same thing lol

I almost feel a special bond with all of you because we are part of a niche group of people who played this game and absolutely adore it. After replaying it multiple times and recently started up again (just reached disc 2), I've come to the conclusion that this is my all time favorite game (maybe a tie with FF7). The music is stunning, the characters have substance, the story is downright epic. The pacing of the game is perfect, the battle system is very engaging... and overall, it just has a whole lot of heart and soul. So much attention to detail went into this game. I appreciate all the effort that went into this masterpiece and even though it doesn't have the full recognition it deserves, I think that's what makes me enjoy this gem even more... I would be open to a prequel and not so much a sequel... a sequel would force a new story line and will complicate the plot unnecessarily. Kingdom Hearts was an amazing game but just wasn't feeling the vibe of the sequels that followed. Prequel would make much more sense. I would love to know more details that lead to the dragon campaign and how each original dragoon was chosen to be part of the warriors leading the humans to victory.
I would cry tears of joy if they ever announced a remake, sequel or prequel! The Legend of Dragoon is such a good game and a favorite of mine. PLEASE remake or remaster this game Bluepoint, even if it takes ages.

The battle system in this game was GREAT!!! The timing of the button presses was a little harsh, but “Legend of Dragoon” could have really benefitted from sequels improving on it. Almost every major RPG series needed a game or two to really shine.

AngulusBluesummers I hope so 😭 I remember some GameStop employee telling me “they’re going to for sure remake it on the PS2” this was a decade ago and my naive brain took that as gospel lol still waiting on that sequel or remake 😭 I hope if they do they use the same score or some of it because that music is hard to replace.

@@erichall090909 Thats why i said it claimed to be a FF7 "Killer" along with other games that were trying to compete with FF7 at the time that also claimed to be FF7 killers, like Core of Septerra and many others, but what these games only succeeded in doing was cementing FF7s legacy as one of the greats among JRPGs, in my honest opinion though, LoD came close, i think it got to much hard criticism at the time it came because of the battle system, and borrowed elements from other games, FF7 included, but it was still a great game, and everyone loves it now
Anytime someone even mentions Dragoon, immediate like and subscribe. This is my all time favorite game, and it doesnt get the recognition it deserves. And if there ever was a game deserving of a prequel, this is it. You have the ENTIRE dragon campaign to work with. The disappearance of the Gigantos, Minitos, and Mermaids, life under Wingly rule, discovering the ability to harness dragon souls, the other 102 species of the divine tree, more details of Rose and Zeig's story, etc. This game was built for a prequel. Also if there is ever a remake, can we have Lloyd as a playable character? I felt the game always built up to that, but never delivered.
Personally, I'd love a sequel where the MC and MH are implied to be the reincarnations of Zieg and Rose--with Dart returning as a mysterious old mentor figure with the Divine Dragoon spirit.
I first played this on a demo disc and i was instantly enamored. I must have played through the demo 50 times before I finally got the game, and then i played nothing else for months. 20 years later and i still play it once a year or so.
Interesting that it sold more in the US than Japan. Also interesting that the original Japanese version was more difficult. Would love to try that version. It's too bad the critics panned this awesome game. I really enjoyed it, and would love for there to be a prequel.
Same with playing the version that Japan got. I figure that the differculty went up as you got more dragoons(simular to how the level system was in Final Fantasy 8 is). The more dragoon spirits you have the more diffecult the monsters/bosses were.
@@elessardragon7655 That wouldn't make the game harder. That didn't make FF8 harder either. It made FF8 extremely easy to totally break with the junction system. My last play through I didn't even go out of my way to break it and I stomped literally every boss in 2 or 3 turn passes I think. As in my characters all got a turn and the boss got one. Then the boss would be dead before they got another. The Legend of The Dragoon would be easy to break if difficulty scaled with Dragoon level. For one that would be a silly thing to base scaling on because the only Dragoon that is even remotely useful or worth the transformation by disc 3 is Meru because of Rainbow Breath or maybe Shana/Miranda because they are shit in regular combat anyway and their Dragon summons are the only ones even close to justifying 80MP. All you would have to do is grind for an Ultimate Wargod before you reached the Kongol Boss fight. It makes your SP gain zero and auto completes and perfects every addition in exchange. The rest of the game would have enemies locked at the base level while you kept powering up more and more. Whatever is harder about this Japanese version I hope that isn't it.
*LOVE* this game. I have 3 of the action figures (Dart, Rose, Shana), which I got at release. I don't recall them being that expensive. Was thinking of getting the others at times, but never did. I was SO disappointed about the canceled sequel, very disappointed. Some of the devs of the battle system are ones that worked on Shadow Hearts and Lost Odyssey (can tell). I always thought they should do a prequel story about Rose. They should've put this on the PS Classic. Sony owns the rights, so they could've.
According to the video the international release was rebalanced based on Japanese feedback. I'm glad to because it meant I was able to get through it even as a little brat
Having played both versions, I can definitely agree the Japanese version is considerably harder. All enemies have more HP and deal more damage, and money and item drops are significantly lower. I didn't notice much difference beyond that, but it was enough to notice a difference for sure. I still wouldn't say it was "too hard" but then again, I was also already very familiar with the game from having played the North American version several times to completion.
Took me 15 years to finish this game. When I bought the game in 2000, it had 3 discs. I thought that was all there was supposed to be. Imagine my surprise when while playing on the 3rd disc, the game prompted "Insert Disc 4". I was like, what disc 4? I realized the copy I bought had a missing 4th disc. So, I tried my best to find another copy. Years went by and I never found one. Finally, in about 2006, I found an old copy lying around a shop in SM Megamall. I was ecstatic and immediately bought it. When I opened the box, my heart fell when I saw disc 4 had scratches on it. And as I feared, it doesn't load. I had lost hope. When I finally got a Playstation 3 years later, and the game was released on Playstation Store in 2012 as a downloadable game, I immediately bought it. My hopes of finishing the game was renewed. I bought it online and started the game from the beginning. Near the final boss, my Playstation started malfunctioning. I also had an issue with my Playstation ID. Because I was already working then and busy with life, it took me a few more years to finally have the time to get it fixed. Finally, I finished the game in around 2015/2016.
Im currently playing this on my psp. I havent played it in a while and i bought the game a long time ago on my ps3. Transfered it to my psp. I grew up playing this game when i was a kid and i gotta say its one of the most underrated jrpgs of all time in my opinion. Its very good. The story is good, the battle system is unique and good. The characters are great. I love this game. A prequel would be awesome. I would love to play the dragon campaign that happened 11,000 years ago. Rose should be the main character. Anyway, if anyone is thinking about playing this game, you should. It can be difficult at times, especially later on in the game when you get harder additions. Thanks for the upload. @@XY-dc4yp I actually hate the love aspect of this game. I never used shana/miranda. I used merus dragoon rainbow breath spell to heal everyone. I love rpgs but sometimes the love in the plot gets dragged out and its annoying. I prefer rpgs like shadow hearts, chrono trigger, bordrlands(shooter rpg), some final fantasy games(the love aspect drives me nuts. Especially in ffX but thats a fantastic game with a great turn based battle system and a fantastic story. If im not playing any rpgs, i play either the castlevania series or the resident evil series. Resident evil 2 is my favorite. The remake is awesome as well! I love the first castlevania. Bought the anniversary edition on my ps4 a year ago.
all the love aspects are the same and cliche, but in dragoon the adventure is not too serious and not too hard core so most casual gamers don’t feel overwhelmed, as well the music, colour palette of the game and city design that are bright and vibrant makes for wonderful areas to explore and desire to travel to in real life... like I said invoke happy emotions.

The 10 real things you didnt know about The Legend of Dragoon: 1. Haschel is Darts grandfather 2. Claire is Haschels daughter, and a boss you fight using Haschel, which is Darts mother 3. 50 stardust is needed to beat Magician Faust 4. Rose couldve been the main protagonist and nothing would change 5. You can master all of the addition of Lavitz before his death 6. Save your sachet items 7. Fighting Roses old squad was one of the best side quests in the game 8. You can earn the Earth Dragoon spirit by simply purchasing it from the shopkeeper 9. Rose can kick Lightnings ass 10. Shana/Miranda are both useless
I dunno, I had a great time using Shana/Miranda the last time I played. They abuse the heck out of the magic item system. It was easy enough to do 25% of Fruegel's HP in one attack with Shana when you first get her. Unfortunately, the both of them are often overshadowed by Meru, who isn't as good with Magic, but she's both faster and hits harder.
i don't remember this game being too hard all i remember that this game is really fun to play its not the usual turn base you actually need to do some combos which is fun specially if you successfully did a long ass button combo
Good video. Rose's hair originally being green was the stand out for me. One thing I learned is the difference between the original black label vs the greatest hits version of the US game. The art on the original game discs are in color while the GH is not. I had GH discs back in the day but lost all but three. 3 years ago, I found the black label and was rather surprised at the difference it made. When I first played the game the one thing I really wanted to know was what Rose was doing with her Demon Gate move.
"Commerical success? Yeah. Critical success? Not so much." I remember A LOT of people sending A LOT of angry mail to professional reviewers when this game got panned. Yes, it borrows a lot from convention in gameplay from Final Fantasy, even to the point of being derivative, but the transformation mechanics and Addition system keeps it fresh, and while the story seems to use clichés (damsel/childhood friend in distress, revenge on those who orphaned main character, good kingdom vs evil empire,) go through the whole story and you'll realize it takes these tropes and conventions, and eventually they turn them on their heads. I won't explain more than that, on the off chance someone reading this hasn't played the game.
I own and have played more than 150+ games for PSX and I must say that this is the best game you can ever play - in my opinion, of course. Over the years, I've played it from start to finish 5 times and it never gets boring. It's a true masterpiece. 😊 I think I'll play it again this year. 🤤

It could start with Zeig recuiting each of the original seven, and end with the seige of Kadassa, which anyone that played it knows how that ends. Poor Rose the only surivivor, well only survivor till Zeig's stone rest broke.
Didn't Shirley survive also? I mean she kept her spirit on the world to help free the other dragoons if she died wouldn't she be trapped like the other spirits were?
@@drew4564 Zeig and Rose are the only two that lived after the dragon campaign. Shurley does kind of count seeing that her spirit didn't end up trapped like the other four, but she did die which isn't surviving. Zeig didn't really survive the war alive but petrified and after time the curse broke and he lived again.Rose not only survived the war but thanks to Charlie lived long enough to find out that Zeig still lived.
One of the best games I've ever played & I'm thankful for having the hard copy in mint condition with the manual. Anyways if anyone who hasn't played this I HIGHLY recommend it
You forgot to mention... This game's release was perfectly positioned between the release of final fantasy 8 and 9 and at the beginning of in USA's summer break so people actually had time to play it without interference. Unfortunately, it was short lived because in October the release of PS2 kind of killed any hope for this game's longevity playability. November's release of FF9 buried this game and no one talked about it after that. Square was the dominant RPG company and the game had 4-5 months to shine. Still one of my all time favorites tho.
This game was my childhood, I remember playing with fake swords in the woods with my friends pretending to be dragoons! I still blast the song if you still believe!!!!
I absolutely love this game. I used to have a demo disc for it back then and I'd never get tired of replaying the snake boss over and over again simply because the gameplay was so fun and the soundtrack absolutely amazing. So I hold this game close to my heart even when I had actually never finished the game until very recently. It's highly unrealistic but I still hope for a remake. ❤️
The biggest problem LoD had with critics was that FF9 was released a month prior. With the latter still being fresh in the minds of many, LoD suffered harshly, scoring only 5/10 in the UK Official PlayStation Magazine. This score would later be bumped up to a solid 7/10 a few years down the line, (this was after a couple of fans sent an angry letter, and OPM even apologized for the initial scoring) however the damage was already done.
i disagree about the cover, the Japanese cover is awesome. the Final Fantasy series and even MGS (ps1) did that too, but with a white background. its like a music cd front cover. if you wanna see details, people usually look at the back.
Well. FF is FF. You dont need a fancy cover to know what the game is due to its popularity esp in Japan. Heck. Ps1 era is when FF actually start to hit its peak internationally thanks to ff7.

Parasite Eve (white background) it goes to show, you dont need more just to get your attention. i remember the time, i saw Xenogears in a store, it sure caught my attention, and soon disappointed that its japanese.

Every time I watch E3, the Game awards or the way Nintendo Directs have just been going crazy I keep hoping, and wishing, for this to be announced! ;_; I think a really well done remaster with a new addition prequel of the Dragon Campaign would be cool. I dunno about a sequel - at least - not with the same cast of characters as it ends quite nicely for all. In any case, I'd love a remaster with new scenes and interactions. I honestly think the cover art for the Japanese release hurt it because it was during that time when we didnt really have the internet as we did today and people just bought games because it looked cool. I remember my little brother convinced me in getting this game over another and I’m so glad he did, ended up being so freaking amazing despite us not knowing anything about it
Anyone remember the commercial? Like I remember a big cinematic fight between Dart and Lloyd, and basically Dart accidentally cuts off Lloyds head and Lloyd was there like "Hey! You cut off my head! You see that? He cut off my head!" and Dart said "What a wuss!"
This game along with chrono cross and ff8 are my absolute faves forever, i'd really love to see a remake of them, been waiting for whats feels like an entire life :c
I remember getting to stay up late to watch my dad play, and sometimes getting to do the power up on dragoon attacks. Other than Frogger, this is probably the biggest game I associate with my childhood. I woked on playing through it while in college, but I haven't touched it for a few years and I'm not sure where the case and games are at. Hopefully I can find it again soon!

A prequel is a good idea, but a sequel can deal with the aftermath of the first game's events. After some time when the main cast passed away, or passed down their dragoon spirits. With major events like the moon that never sets finally setting. New beasts and disillusioned people fill the world as Endiness changes drastically to the global effects caused by the dragons, the winglies, the moon, and everything else left behind.
Never in my lifetime will they ever make a another legend of dragoon again. I’m just glad this was my first Jrpg as a kid. It would’ve been nice if they made the beginning of the dragoon, dragon campaign storyline and how it came to be to legend of dragoon.
Hearing the gameplay and music again brings back memories. I also learn something new about this game so thanks for that. Loved this game so much and still do even now. Would love a remake of this game; keep the dialogue, music, gameplay and the story from the original and maybe bring in the original difficulty to add something new. This is just my thoughts, but you never know.
There's plenty left in that universe to develop a sequel from. Even without just making stuff up to include a new bigger baddy type of character or really any new lore. They should also do a remaster and/or remake.

Haschels was the hardest I always maxed Lavitz out before his death so I rarely played with Albert shana was always in my line up to by the time I make it to doel she is untouchable my all time ps1 game
I'm surprised you didn't mention the missing side quest from the NA release. It cut out only a small portion of the game, so I hear, but the reward was a bag that doubled your item carrying capacity, thus making the NA version MUCH harder than the JA one since we had to ration our items.
I've seen at least one coder working on an english dialogue patch (in order to make the translation truer to the original), so far I think they have done all of disc 1 but it could be years before it's all finished. There are also patches to: double the inventory space, change the difficulty and even swap the american dub out for the japanese dub.
This is the game that so many people overlooked, especially since this game overshadowed by FF8. That's why it's sales increase long after this game release
The last console i bought, like, 12 years ago, was my loyal ps2 and I am not even joking here: I would buy the ps5 only to play the remake of tlod alone. I MEANT IT SONY, I WOULD PAY THE CONSOLE PRICE JUST TO PLAY THE DAMM GAME!
As we all know now, Blue Point's teased remake turned out to be Demon's Souls. I still have hope for a Legend of Dragoon remake. I feel like it's as much of a Playstation classic, as was described of Demon's Souls in a recent interview.
Ditto to others, I played this on the Psone and it was a surprisingly good game! I didn’t hold a lot of expectations for it as at that time, there seemed to be 3-5 new games/month for the console. I can say personally, in the 35 years of playing video games, this one *still* stands out as one of the better story-driven fantasy games from the original PS.
After paying my debts, this game getting a remaster or remake is on the top of my list if I ever win the lottery! I've always wanted to add a "boss fight" between Dart and Rose in the desert at the beginning of disc 4 then have it turn into a fight where the 2 of them fight together against an "Ultimate Sandworm." Also wanted to add a new game plus feature as well. Oh well, here's to dreams!
Thinking about Rose with Green Hair just has me comparing that image with C.C. from Code Geass since they're both considered Witches and have lived for quite a while in both of their respective worlds.
I got my dad's old copy of the game, all four disks still working, looked up the game and saw that while it was popular with those that bought and played it, I tried it and I was hooked, 24 hours later I was barely halfway through disk one cause I was hooked and wanted to grind and explore everything
Man every year or so I come to Legend of Dragoon videos and lament on how I love this game and I wish for a remake or something. One of the best games I ever played. Seeing the epic voiced cut scenes, beyond awesome interactive combat and brutally good music made me go crazy over it the moment i inserted the damn CD into my Sony. Ah they don't make games like they used to. =/
With the sole exception of the grinding in this game. I loved it. It had a lot of good things going for it IMO. And if this game gets a remaster. I would play it in a second.
When I was a kid with English being my second language, I thought that the name was supposed to be "the legend of dragon" and thought that since it was a typo we were getting a deal for 4 DISKS!
there is no debate, the game is one of the best from that era. it was literally the first game i played on PS1. my first 3 games: LoD, FF7, and FF8. man, the soundtrack for this game. epic! definitely want that book. probably hella expensive though. and i would love a remake.

I almost feel a special bond with all of you because we are part of a niche group of people who played this game and absolutely adore it. After replaying it multiple times and recently started up again (just reached disc 2), I've come to the conclusion that this is my all time favorite game (maybe a tie with FF7). The music is stunning, the characters have substance, the story is downright epic. The pacing of the game is perfect, the battle system is very engaging... and overall, it just has a whole lot of heart and soul. So much attention to detail went into this game. I appreciate all the effort that went into this masterpiece and even though it doesn't have the full recognition it deserves, I think that's what makes me enjoy this gem even more... I would be open to a prequel and not so much a sequel... a sequel would force a new story line and will complicate the plot unnecessarily. Kingdom Hearts was an amazing game but just wasn't feeling the vibe of the sequels that followed. Prequel would make much more sense. I would love to know more details that lead to the dragon campaign and how each original dragoon was chosen to be part of the warriors leading the humans to victory.
I would cry tears of joy if they ever announced a remake, sequel or prequel! The Legend of Dragoon is such a good game and a favorite of mine. PLEASE remake or remaster this game Bluepoint, even if it takes ages.

Anytime someone even mentions Dragoon, immediate like and subscribe. This is my all time favorite game, and it doesnt get the recognition it deserves.
And if there ever was a game deserving of a prequel, this is it. You have the ENTIRE dragon campaign to work with. The disappearance of the Gigantos, Minitos, and Mermaids, life under Wingly rule, discovering the ability to harness dragon souls, the other 102 species of the divine tree, more details of Rose and Zeig's story, etc. This game was built for a prequel.
Also if there is ever a remake, can we have Lloyd as a playable character? I felt the game always built up to that, but never delivered.

Personally, I'd love a sequel where the MC and MH are implied to be the reincarnations of Zieg and Rose--with Dart returning as a mysterious old mentor figure with the Divine Dragoon spirit.

I first played this on a demo disc and i was instantly enamored. I must have played through the demo 50 times before I finally got the game, and then i played nothing else for months. 20 years later and i still play it once a year or so.
Interesting that it sold more in the US than Japan. Also interesting that the original Japanese version was more difficult. Would love to try that version. It's too bad the critics panned this awesome game. I really enjoyed it, and would love for there to be a prequel.
Same with playing the version that Japan got. I figure that the differculty went up as you got more dragoons(simular to how the level system was in Final Fantasy 8 is). The more dragoon spirits you have the more diffecult the monsters/bosses were.
@@elessardragon7655 That wouldn't make the game harder. That didn't make FF8 harder either. It made FF8 extremely easy to totally break with the junction system. My last play through I didn't even go out of my way to break it and I stomped literally every boss in 2 or 3 turn passes I think. As in my characters all got a turn and the boss got one. Then the boss would be dead before they got another.
The Legend of The Dragoon would be easy to break if difficulty scaled with Dragoon level. For one that would be a silly thing to base scaling on because the only Dragoon that is even remotely useful or worth the transformation by disc 3 is Meru because of Rainbow Breath or maybe Shana/Miranda because they are shit in regular combat anyway and their Dragon summons are the only ones even close to justifying 80MP. All you would have to do is grind for an Ultimate Wargod before you reached the Kongol Boss fight. It makes your SP gain zero and auto completes and perfects every addition in exchange. The rest of the game would have enemies locked at the base level while you kept powering up more and more. Whatever is harder about this Japanese version I hope that isn't it.
*LOVE* this game. I have 3 of the action figures (Dart, Rose, Shana), which I got at release. I don't recall them being that expensive.
Was thinking of getting the others at times, but never did. I was SO disappointed about the canceled sequel, very disappointed. Some of the devs of the battle system are ones that worked on Shadow Hearts and Lost Odyssey (can tell). I always thought they should do a prequel story about Rose. They should've put this on the PS Classic. Sony owns the rights, so they could've.

According to the video the international release was rebalanced based on Japanese feedback. I'm glad to because it meant I was able to get through it even as a little brat
Having played both versions, I can definitely agree the Japanese version is considerably harder. All enemies have more HP and deal more damage, and money and item drops are significantly lower. I didn't notice much difference beyond that, but it was enough to notice a difference for sure. I still wouldn't say it was "too hard" but then again, I was also already very familiar with the game from having played the North American version several times to completion.

When I bought the game in 2000, it had 3 discs. I thought that was all there was supposed to be. Imagine my surprise when while playing on the 3rd disc, the game prompted "Insert Disc 4". I was like, what disc 4? I realized the copy I bought had a missing 4th disc. So, I tried my best to find another copy. Years went by and I never found one. Finally, in about 2006, I found an old copy lying around a shop in SM Megamall. I was ecstatic and immediately bought it. When I opened the box, my heart fell when I saw disc 4 had scratches on it. And as I feared, it doesn't load. I had lost hope. When I finally got a Playstation 3 years later, and the game was released on Playstation Store in 2012 as a downloadable game, I immediately bought it. My hopes of finishing the game was renewed. I bought it online and started the game from the beginning. Near the final boss, my Playstation started malfunctioning. I also had an issue with my Playstation ID. Because I was already working then and busy with life, it took me a few more years to finally have the time to get it fixed. Finally, I finished the game in around 2015/2016.
Im currently playing this on my psp. I havent played it in a while and i bought the game a long time ago on my ps3. Transfered it to my psp. I grew up playing this game when i was a kid and i gotta say its one of the most underrated jrpgs of all time in my opinion. Its very good. The story is good, the battle system is unique and good. The characters are great. I love this game. A prequel would be awesome. I would love to play the dragon campaign that happened 11,000 years ago. Rose should be the main character. Anyway, if anyone is thinking about playing this game, you should. It can be difficult at times, especially later on in the game when you get harder additions. Thanks for the upload. @@XY-dc4yp I actually hate the love aspect of this game. I never used shana/miranda. I used merus dragoon rainbow breath spell to heal everyone. I love rpgs but sometimes the love in the plot gets dragged out and its annoying. I prefer rpgs like shadow hearts, chrono trigger, bordrlands(shooter rpg), some final fantasy games(the love aspect drives me nuts. Especially in ffX but thats a fantastic game with a great turn based battle system and a fantastic story. If im not playing any rpgs, i play either the castlevania series or the resident evil series. Resident evil 2 is my favorite. The remake is awesome as well! I love the first castlevania. Bought the anniversary edition on my ps4 a year ago.
all the love aspects are the same and cliche, but in dragoon the adventure is not too serious and not too hard core so most casual gamers don’t feel overwhelmed, as well the music, colour palette of the game and city design that are bright and vibrant makes for wonderful areas to explore and desire to travel to in real life... like I said invoke happy emotions.

I dunno, I had a great time using Shana/Miranda the last time I played. They abuse the heck out of the magic item system. It was easy enough to do 25% of Fruegel's HP in one attack with Shana when you first get her. Unfortunately, the both of them are often overshadowed by Meru, who isn't as good with Magic, but she's both faster and hits harder.

i don't remember this game being too hard all i remember that this game is really fun to play its not the usual turn base you actually need to do some combos which is fun specially if you successfully did a long ass button combo
Good video. Rose's hair originally being green was the stand out for me. One thing I learned is the difference between the original black label vs the greatest hits version of the US game. The art on the original game discs are in color while the GH is not. I had GH discs back in the day but lost all but three. 3 years ago, I found the black label and was rather surprised at the difference it made.
When I first played the game the one thing I really wanted to know was what Rose was doing with her Demon Gate move.

I remember A LOT of people sending A LOT of angry mail to professional reviewers when this game got panned. Yes, it borrows a lot from convention in gameplay from Final Fantasy, even to the point of being derivative, but the transformation mechanics and Addition system keeps it fresh, and while the story seems to use clichés (damsel/childhood friend in distress, revenge on those who orphaned main character, good kingdom vs evil empire,) go through the whole story and you'll realize it takes these tropes and conventions, and eventually they turn them on their heads. I won't explain more than that, on the off chance someone reading this hasn't played the game.
I own and have played more than 150+ games for PSX and I must say that this is the best game you can ever play - in my opinion, of course. Over the years, I've played it from start to finish 5 times and it never gets boring.

A prequel would be nice, there's the dragon campaign for a start.
It could start with Zeig recuiting each of the original seven, and end with the seige of Kadassa, which anyone that played it knows how that ends. Poor Rose the only surivivor, well only survivor till Zeig's stone rest broke.
Didn't Shirley survive also? I mean she kept her spirit on the world to help free the other dragoons if she died wouldn't she be trapped like the other spirits were?
@@drew4564 Zeig and Rose are the only two that lived after the dragon campaign. Shurley does kind of count seeing that her spirit didn't end up trapped like the other four, but she did die which isn't surviving. Zeig didn't really survive the war alive but petrified and after time the curse broke and he lived again.Rose not only survived the war but thanks to Charlie lived long enough to find out that Zeig still lived.

You forgot to mention... This game's release was perfectly positioned between the release of final fantasy 8 and 9 and at the beginning of in USA's summer break so people actually had time to play it without interference. Unfortunately, it was short lived because in October the release of PS2 kind of killed any hope for this game's longevity playability. November's release of FF9 buried this game and no one talked about it after that. Square was the dominant RPG company and the game had 4-5 months to shine. Still one of my all time favorites tho.

I absolutely love this game. I used to have a demo disc for it back then and I'd never get tired of replaying the snake boss over and over again simply because the gameplay was so fun and the soundtrack absolutely amazing. So I hold this game close to my heart even when I had actually never finished the game until very recently.
It's highly unrealistic but I still hope for a remake. ❤️

#11 - The fact that The Legend Of Dragoon hasn't gotten a remake, sequel, or prequel is a crime against humanity.
The biggest problem LoD had with critics was that FF9 was released a month prior. With the latter still being fresh in the minds of many, LoD suffered harshly, scoring only 5/10 in the UK Official PlayStation Magazine. This score would later be bumped up to a solid 7/10 a few years down the line, (this was after a couple of fans sent an angry letter, and OPM even apologized for the initial scoring) however the damage was already done.
I still play it to this day. I want a remake so badly. And the turn based battle system was more enjoyable then ff in my experience
A remastered version of this game and a faster paced turn based battles is what we deserve to see happen.

Well. FF is FF. You dont need a fancy cover to know what the game is due to its popularity esp in Japan. Heck. Ps1 era is when FF actually start to hit its peak internationally thanks to ff7.

Every time I watch E3, the Game awards or the way Nintendo Directs have just been going crazy I keep hoping, and wishing, for this to be announced! ;_; I think a really well done remaster with a new addition prequel of the Dragon Campaign would be cool. I dunno about a sequel - at least - not with the same cast of characters as it ends quite nicely for all. In any case, I'd love a remaster with new scenes and interactions. I honestly think the cover art for the Japanese release hurt it because it was during that time when we didnt really have the internet as we did today and people just bought games because it looked cool. I remember my little brother convinced me in getting this game over another and I’m so glad he did, ended up being so freaking amazing despite us not knowing anything about it

Anyone remember the commercial? Like I remember a big cinematic fight between Dart and Lloyd, and basically Dart accidentally cuts off Lloyds head and Lloyd was there like "Hey! You cut off my head! You see that? He cut off my head!" and Dart said "What a wuss!"

I remember getting to stay up late to watch my dad play, and sometimes getting to do the power up on dragoon attacks. Other than Frogger, this is probably the biggest game I associate with my childhood. I woked on playing through it while in college, but I haven't touched it for a few years and I'm not sure where the case and games are at. Hopefully I can find it again soon!

A prequel is a good idea, but a sequel can deal with the aftermath of the first game's events. After some time when the main cast passed away, or passed down their dragoon spirits.
With major events like the moon that never sets finally setting. New beasts and disillusioned people fill the world as Endiness changes drastically to the global effects caused by the dragons, the winglies, the moon, and everything else left behind.
Never in my lifetime will they ever make a another legend of dragoon again. I’m just glad this was my first Jrpg as a kid. It would’ve been nice if they made the beginning of the dragoon, dragon campaign storyline and how it came to be to legend of dragoon.

Loved this game so much and still do even now. Would love a remake of this game; keep the dialogue, music, gameplay and the story from the original and maybe bring in the original difficulty to add something new.

There's plenty left in that universe to develop a sequel from. Even without just making stuff up to include a new bigger baddy type of character or really any new lore. They should also do a remaster and/or remake.

For me all of them were easy except Albert, they weren't hard but weren't as easy as everyone else.
Haschels was the hardest I always maxed Lavitz out before his death so I rarely played with Albert shana was always in my line up to by the time I make it to doel she is untouchable my all time ps1 game
I'm surprised you didn't mention the missing side quest from the NA release. It cut out only a small portion of the game, so I hear, but the reward was a bag that doubled your item carrying capacity, thus making the NA version MUCH harder than the JA one since we had to ration our items.

I've seen at least one coder working on an english dialogue patch (in order to make the translation truer to the original), so far I think they have done all of disc 1 but it could be years before it's all finished. There are also patches to: double the inventory space, change the difficulty and even swap the american dub out for the japanese dub.
This is the game that so many people overlooked, especially since this game overshadowed by FF8. That's why it's sales increase long after this game release

I still have hope for a Legend of Dragoon remake. I feel like it's as much of a Playstation classic, as was described of Demon's Souls in a recent interview.
Ditto to others, I played this on the Psone and it was a surprisingly good game! I didn’t hold a lot of expectations for it as at that time, there seemed to be 3-5 new games/month for the console. I can say personally, in the 35 years of playing video games, this one *still* stands out as one of the better story-driven fantasy games from the original PS.
After paying my debts, this game getting a remaster or remake is on the top of my list if I ever win the lottery! I've always wanted to add a "boss fight" between Dart and Rose in the desert at the beginning of disc 4 then have it turn into a fight where the 2 of them fight together against an "Ultimate Sandworm." Also wanted to add a new game plus feature as well. Oh well, here's to dreams!

Man every year or so I come to Legend of Dragoon videos and lament on how I love this game and I wish for a remake or something. One of the best games I ever played. Seeing the epic voiced cut scenes, beyond awesome interactive combat and brutally good music made me go crazy over it the moment i inserted the damn CD into my Sony. Ah they don't make games like they used to. =/
With the sole exception of the grinding in this game. I loved it. It had a lot of good things going for it IMO. And if this game gets a remaster. I would play it in a second.
When I was a kid with English being my second language, I thought that the name was supposed to be "the legend of dragon" and thought that since it was a typo we were getting a deal for 4 DISKS!
there is no debate, the game is one of the best from that era.
it was literally the first game i played on PS1. my first 3 games: LoD, FF7, and FF8.
man, the soundtrack for this game. epic!
definitely want that book. probably hella expensive though. and i would love a remake.
