Just like “Persona 3”, I think “Suikoden V” got overlooked by releasing on the PS2 instead of the PS3, which was starving for JRPG’s the first 2-3 years of its life. It’s sad because “Suikoden V” is my favorite of the Suikoden series!
I absolutely agree with this. It's really sad the series has apparently died. I'd kill to see a number 6. Heck, even a graphical remastering of the first and second games could be amazing--with voice acting, etc. It could introduce, literally, a whole generation to a classic.
What makes me even more sad. Konami planned a RPG project for PS3 which I assume was Suikoden. Instead of waiting for Suikoden 6 that got cancelled they could have made Suikoden 5 for PS3 like you said.
Suikoden V would have needed a major overhaul to be on the ps3. Not just the bad load times, but traveling in general. Persona 3 didnt do as well because it was generally in a pretty niche category. On top of that, atlus likes to not produce a ton of copies of the game. Only reason I heard about it was because of the invoker controversy.
I bought this game on a whim. I was skipping school when I was like 18 years young (now 35). Used to hang out at a record store who also sold games, and I picked that game up. Best purchase I've done. Didn't have internet back then, so got the store clerk to print out like 20 pages of how to recruit the stars for me XD
Same as me, I wanted to try a Suikoden game and went to a second hand store. The guy said to me this game was great, bought it like for 30€ in mint condition. Cheers to that random guy
About Georg, you missed the fact that his legend goes back to Suikoden *1*! In Marie's inn, six guys are talking about the Five Great Generals but one of them says 'The Six... I mean Five Great Generals' and nothing more is said about it, except we know that at the end of the Gate Rune War, there are indeed Six Generals again. This is the first in game hint of Georg because we learn in Suikoden 2 that there were meant to be Six Generals all along and that Georg was the sixth but left before the first game, hence why the guy in the inn wasn't making verbal nonsense - it was a genuine slip on his part, and foreshadowing that a general had left and that having Five Generals only wasn't the norm! However there is one more piece of evidence to indicate this from Suikoden I - the Japanese instruction manual, which has a picture of the Six Great Generals... including a certain guy with black hair and an eyepatch!!!! The manual picture also includes someone who decidedly isn't Sonya Shulen - it's because it's her mother, Kilawher, who was part of the Generals when Georg was. So Georg's eyepatch look and his existence was being foreshadowed even as far back as the original Suikoden. I guess they soft retconned the eyepatch for Suikoden 2 before the creators of 5 decided to go back to it.
This game is the reason why I'm excited about the rumor that the PS5 might be fully backwards compatible. My PS2 finally died a couple years ago and I have had an urge to play Suikoden 5 ever since (I was in the middle of a playthrough when it died).
Backwards to PS4 at most I assume... If it was truly backwards compatible all the way to Playstation 1 and also getting rid of the NTSC / PAL Issue, that would be super amazing.

I did not know anything about this series but the cover was nice and so I bought it. It begins rather slow with a lot of politics and character development which is totally fine and even more so in this game. Because I got really drawn into it. The world, the Nobels with all their agendas, the dynamic between the prince and his sister and his parents and the royal guards. And right when I got comfortable and thought "Well now I will probably go exploring" BAM the games shifts gear and changes completely. And I was so angry (at the villans) happy (because of the awesome game) and was totally into it. And so with no effort at all this game jumped into my top ten all time favourite games of all genres. As good as Suikoden 2 Mr Landon?? Did someone start "hitting the sauce" a tad early today? I do agree however this is criminally underrated and this franchise remains our dream remaster title for all current gen systems. That being said we always agree we love seeing and hearing your rpg passion thru your videos no matter what :). Your care and love for the genre is always appreciated good Sir.

Suikoden V is one of the best jrpgs I've played and no one played it =/ Getting the good ending sticks with me, the way the ending cutscene is mostly unvoiced, AND with no text, but with the characters body language you can still understand what they were saying and what was going on. It was a perfect ending.
Fact #1: There's a such thing as a Suikoden 5.... I loved 4 and beat it multiple times, seen both ending, took different party members for my 'stranded' starting party (finding out that didn't actually matter), finding all 108 stars, having fantasies about the woman who worked the magic shop (I was very young), etc, and I never knew that there was a Suikoden 5.... Wow.
I stopped playing very early on, i felt the world map and towns and battles were so bland, like very little effort from the devs. story and music seemed great. Should i get back to it (played around 2-3 hours only)? Really wanna get into every time i put it on i just cant focus on it. What do you all love about it mainly? m open to change my mind about it
I agree. I played it all the way through a couple times. It has a lot going for it, but it feels hollow in some respects. I do not think it is as good as Suikoden 2.
for me what hooked me the most is the interaction with all SoD it feel more lively, second is the mini games is super fun and the third is the battle system especially where we can arrange various formation with various effect.
word to the wise, the original series was green lighted by konami & one guy was in charge. He had a 10 year plan. He said he was only going to spend 10 years exactly working for Konami and that is exactly what happened. After 10 years he left Konami and made his own games, but he left behind 2 outlines for 2 further Suikoden games which were made by a different team (games 4 & 5).
I was lucky to grab 2 brand new (LOVED IT!!). I was buying all things Playstation 1 RPG. Found 1 at a pawn shop for $5 case and all. Bought them as they came out. Still have them almost mint and aint no one getting them!!!
Honestly, Suikoden, and any other unknown game series like Kya: Dark Lineage... Would probably do much better in this time and age, just because advertising is so much easier now. You have google ads, video ads on Instagram, they're everywhere!
I'm most surprised to hear that the director was new to the RPG genre and had only ever worked on a single shooter game before. He did a great job from what I hear on Suikoden V, as it is regarded as one of the top 3 in the series at least.
2 & 5 are the only real "good" ones to me. The first was a passable effort and 3 & 4 were just disappointing, especially following the footsteps of the masterpiece #2
It's the same with Tsutomu Kouno at Japan Studio who never had lead a RPG project before. Sure, he worked on The Legend of Dragoon when he was a noob and joined the company in 1997, but like he said he was just a team member on level design. He has only created LocoRoco and is reported to work on a super large new RPG IP. I don't think you need to have much RPG experience to work on an RPG, it's just a plus if you have RPG experience. There was a job listing a few days ago connected to Japan Studio. They were looking for someone who can create battle script in the RPG title for a super large new IP. Create AI battle experience.
Ah... I remember this game. Suikoden 1 and 2 were gems. While 3 was a bit of a mix. 4 and its vast ocean and unbearable enemy encounter rate was horrible. 5 felt like a good return to the good old days. And not to mention that the story was pretty neat. A lot of political intrigue while keeping it within the realm of the IP. I even played the one on the DS, which was also pretty cool. Here's to hoping the next Suikoden is a banger.
I really appreciate the effort to even make a 5th game but beyond Tierkreis seems like an impossibility. We can all hope for a 6th but waiting for it might lead to nothing more than disappointment. Fantastic video Erick!
Suikoden as a series will not be revived but lucky the true spiritual successor to the series is in development called "Eiyuden Chronicles" from the original creators of suikoden...
This game was fantastic! I still have Suikoden 3,4and 5 the original disc along with original saga frontier and all wild arms. Suikoden 2 i had my nephew play it and he scratch the disc no saving 😓.
Suikoden 5 is just as good as 2 in my opinion as well. Really disappointed, PSN and Konami haven't made a digital copy. However, I guess the commercial failure is probably why. I should still have an original copy. Sadly, PS2 is lost in an attic, hoping the PS5 will have backward compatibility and I'll have a Suidoden binge gaming couple weeks.
I place Suikoden 5 right after 2 as my favorite Suikoden! It's super underrated and really fulfilled the nostalgia that I didn't think they could do anymore
My Fav Suikoden List : -Suikoden II (I like story between Riou and Jowy I mean is like Naruto and Sasuke and another anime rival like goku and Vegeta) -Suikoden V (A weak Prince and adorable become a strong prince) -Suikoden I (much drama in this series) -Suikoden III (I like the story and i love Flame champion) -Suikoden IV (I don't very like the Theme in this game is better if theme not in the sea but yeah this series much remind me like Riou and Jowy) Sry if my English is bad...
Wish they would port these games in a collection or something to newer platforms. May bite the bullet and buy them on PS1 and PS2. Hope a Growlanser video on "10 things you didn't know" happens in the future.

Coz Konami are run by idiots, saw pachinko as a better way to earn money.. and then they come back crawling to video games.. if they manage to make a decent successor to Suikoden 5.. with the same universe.. it's just a matter of the story, gameplay and how much it aligns with the other stories in the Suikodenverse.. if they can't do that.. then.. better off that they make another game.

@@Pikachu-qr4yb All of the cutscenes have thoughtful animation.
I've never played Suikoden V, but I lived the first couple on the PS1. Luckily thanks to emulation, it is possible to play older games like this without an expensive PS2 and disc.
Suikoden V is my fav rpg of all time!!
It is awesome!
It's getting a spiritual successor by some of the staff behind this series. Eiyuden Chronicles is the title of the work in progress.
For those looking for suikoden 6 look up eiyuden chronicles it was just on kickstarter and is being made by many of the former suikoden team
Suikoden 2 and 5 both are the best suikodens ever..dont think to even compare it to one another bruh..
No, this game is easily on the same level as the 2nd one. Remove nostalgia from the equation and you'll see that
@@bloody4558 well for me every suikoden series is unique in every way.. if you are the true fan though heheh..
@@orphenkirylancello6315 that's ok. I Just find that people should learn to separate emotions when judging a product what you played as a child or as your first contact with a specific product, Will usually create a bias that This product set the rules that needs to be followed, even when the product is actually the original, people need to learn to separate historical contributions from the actual quality of the thing. @@bloody4558 no #5 did have a somewhat weaker story than #2, but it was nonetheless a great return to form for the series
I agree, it is an under appreciated game for sure. Played it twice, loved it both times. It actually gets better, the more you play it.
Suikoden V is one of the best jrpgs I've played and no one played it =/ Getting the good ending sticks with me, the way the ending cutscene is mostly unvoiced, AND with no text, but with the characters body language you can still understand what they were saying and what was going on. It was a perfect ending.
Now we are talking
Fact #1: There's a such thing as a Suikoden 5.... I loved 4 and beat it multiple times, seen both ending, took different party members for my 'stranded' starting party (finding out that didn't actually matter), finding all 108 stars, having fantasies about the woman who worked the magic shop (I was very young), etc, and I never knew that there was a Suikoden 5....
Wow.
900th like! and sakiyama is back! 1 & 2 HD remaster! what a time to be alive!
Eiyudan Chronicles: 100 heros!! Suikoden has returned 🙌
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe il continue and just overlook the weak stuff, if it has good things like you said
for me what hooked me the most is the interaction with all SoD it feel more lively, second is the mini games is super fun and the third is the battle system especially where we can arrange various formation with various effect.
Thanks, that sounds like a lot of cool stuff. Definatley gonna get back to it soon
word to the wise, the original series was green lighted by konami & one guy was in charge.
Suikoden V is probably way better than many JRPG launched on this year, if this game was remade, it would be a friking success
Honestly, Suikoden, and any other unknown game series like Kya: Dark Lineage... Would probably do much better in this time and age, just because advertising is so much easier now. You have google ads, video ads on Instagram, they're everywhere!
Im so sad thinking it again that we wont be getting suikoden series. Wasted universe
Sadly all I remembered about Suikoden 5 is lots of loading times.
Still a great game though!
and then Sonic 06 came... (about the loading times) >_>
and circa 95 boring chars...head of those chars is cheesy and cliche fulfilling pest called lyon
Suikoden as a series will not be revived but lucky the true spiritual successor to the series is in development called "Eiyuden Chronicles" from the original creators of suikoden...
Bought my copy on day one!
Me to
12:06 it's the real life Suikoden. Somebody must gather all the 108 developers of destiny!
Truely epic game..my personal favorite in the series.
and now there's a spiritual successor in the works! yes!!
Now all we can hope is this gets a rerelease after Suikoden HD does well!
This game was fantastic! I still have Suikoden 3,4and 5 the original disc along with original saga frontier and all wild arms. Suikoden 2 i had my nephew play it and he scratch the disc no saving 😓.
Suikoden was my fav growing up!! Thank God eiyuden chronicles is coming!!
I still need to go back and get the good ending.
My personal favorite is part 3. Likely because it was my introduction to the series.
that was a nice and correct line, dude. i love 3 also hard, even if i started with 1. 3 is best story telling to me.
I feel like you got invested into more characters by having all of the different storylines.
@@zakunick1 exactly, and the game features a unique, great and dark story about luc. emotional. i love a lot elements of that game.
This game is amazing, I've been replaying it on my phone. What a time to be alive.
Phone?! Where
@@Pikachu-qr4yb use aether ps2 emulator on Android.
I place Suikoden 5 right after 2 as my favorite Suikoden! It's super underrated and really fulfilled the nostalgia that I didn't think they could do anymore
Eiyuden Chornicle: I am the LIGHT
My Fav Suikoden List :
-Suikoden II (I like story between Riou and Jowy I mean is like Naruto and Sasuke and another anime rival like goku and Vegeta)
-Suikoden V (A weak Prince and adorable become a strong prince)
-Suikoden I (much drama in this series)
-Suikoden III (I like the story and i love Flame champion)
-Suikoden IV (I don't very like the Theme in this game is better if theme not in the sea but yeah this series much remind me like Riou and Jowy)
Sry if my English is bad...
I'm just now playing this and having fun. Good amount of nice lady characters too
My favorite Suikoden is S2, but S5 is a very close second.
might as well give up for a new suikoden game
tierkreis was 4 characters and 1 assistant
Need thesse games to come to steam and ps5 someday
MCs weird fish eye in the intro always destroys me. 😂😂😂
Wish they would port these games in a collection or something to newer platforms. May bite the bullet and buy them on PS1 and PS2. Hope a Growlanser video on "10 things you didn't know" happens in the future.
Konami may wake up someday, i truly hope for all of you.
This game is 5 stars never fail me to laugh and cry with the story...
Oh god why... we need this game again please.... please...
Suikoden 2 and 5 are my 2 favorites in the series.
Suikoden 6 on PS4 and switch by the original team with the team from 5
I love Suikoden V! I haven't been able to play it since I had it on PS2 years ago! I would love to play this again maybe as a digital download on PS4....I have my fingers crossed!
Suikoden 6 - The Rune of Pachinko!!
I love this game but haven’t completed it. I’m kinda lost actually, but this video was great. I didn’t know any of these. I need to get back to it and find that damn beaver
When companies realise the success of an occurrence in a series is based on the success of the recent previous occurrences the better... Especially Konami
Man, I wish to play Suikoden series but looking at the cost of those games on the internet (plus old consol) which might not even work at the end I'm afraid there is no chance for me to try them out (._.)
haha glad I saw this after the successful Eiyuden Chronicles kickstarter
Suikoden 5 is the best RPG story I've played.
Can't wait Eiyuden Chronicle!
I'm playing Suikoden V right now. Dis gun be good.
damn it KONAMIII!! when will you release a goddamn new suikoden series!! you've been neglecting an amazing series all this time!! why?? just why!? DAMN it!!
@@Grayald nah i'm just joking, just look at how they massacre the castlevania franchise by turning it into stupid pachislot machine😂
At least do hd remasters. I'd be fine with an HD collection
There won't be Suikoden 6 just like there won't be Metal Gear 6. Key staff from both series have parted ways with the company
It failed commercially time and time again. We're lucky they gave it as many chances as they did.
5 was a return to form after the ordeal that was 4.
I can't WAIT to play this on PS5!
I was a Big fan of Suikoden and recall playing the first 3 and loving them. I didnt play 4 nor 5 mainly because they were prequels.
